- Wheel Stories finds freedom and social distance while riding a BMW R1150R. It is time for a spring bike run in the Boise and Eagle foothills after being cooped up for weeks, working from home, while hiding from coronavirus. What's next for Wheel Stories? The ABS module fails on my 2004 R1150R while attending the Rally in the Gorge in Hood River, Oregon in 2019. I contemplate removing the failed ABS pump and converting the bike to a standard brake system. Wheel Stories looks forward to attending Rally in the Gorge 2020 if the coast is clear for safe travel and adventure in late August. For more info on Rally in the Gorge, visit soundrider.com.

Can't wait to see more videos. Idaho is so blessed with some gorgeous scenery. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Certainly true about Idaho. Thank you! Will do!
Last summer I visited family in Boise from MN. After a few days I headed up through the Nez Perce Forest, along Flathead Lake, and on to Kalispell. Idaho is an absolutely incredible state.
Idaho has a big mix of geography and feels like 3 or 4 different states in many respects. SW where Boise sits, East next to Wyoming, the central wilderness area, and north Idaho between Washington and Montana with Canada on the border. They're all great. Glad you were able to visit.
Great riding Sierra Foxtrot Gulf! I love the stretch from Lewiston, ID along the Clearwater River towards Lolo Pass, then in to Missoula. Right now and around Memorial Weekend, the mountain runoff into the Clearwater River (also Lewis & Clark Expedition) makes that one of the most violent Rivers I’ve ever seen, whitecaps everywhere, and that’s only half of it.... the camping, and tailgating thru there is unbelievable as they all set up to watch the best kayakers in the country, tackle that river... quite a spectacle! Beyond Missoula, Kalispell, Whitefish, Glacier NP, Logan’s Pass, Road to the Sun, over to Many Glacier Hotel, just iconic country...
Another good winter rewatch. Never get tired of seeing beautiful Idaho. Your R sounds absolutely great. I’m looking forward to hearing your sportster and what you think of it compared. Thanks capturing the sun, the surroundings, and the feel of the ride.
I've excited to do a real ride on the Harley. Too cold to do much more than at trip around the block. There's got to be a 40 to 45 degree day coming soon. I will jump on the Roadster as soon as it happens. With my cameras, of course.
I concur on the editing and narration. And the scenery is top notch.
Thank you. Spring weather near my home is the best for riding. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Always enjoy your videos.
We are still in Stay-at-Home mode here in northern VA, but running an deemed essential business, I haven't got many days off for the past 9 weeks. Enjoy the fresh air!! And the family time.
I'm still working from home. The days start early and end late. And there's no difference between Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Crazy. Lot's of Zoom and Skype calls. Many calls with coworkers in your part of the country, Mclean, VA. I look forward to mowing the lawn. Thanks for watching and stay safe.
Another excellent video. I applaud your approach to riding during the pandemic.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and posting the comment.
Looks like a beautiful state. One state I haven’t visited as of yet. Thx for sharing.
Idaho is a great place to live if you enjoy outdoor recreation. We enjoy it here. Thanks for watching and posting the comment.
Good to see you out enjoying life. Also nice to see you taking a responsible approach to this pandemic. I have been doing like wise here in Arizona. It only takes me 5 minutes to be out in the country side.
That's our approach to the COVID-19 threat. We want to get outdoors and resume a few normal routines but need to do so responsibly. Thanks for watching.
Love the editing and your narration.
I appreciate the positive feedback. Thank you for watching.
I really like your style. Your videos are a pleasure to watch. I hope to develop the skills to make videos engaging as yours. My only complaint the video ended before I was done watching lol.Nice slow race.
Thank you for the ride along
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice to ride again, nice to see you again ! Enjoy !
Yes. It's great to have spring weather and be back on the bike, even for a short ride. Thanks for watching.
Good to see you are doing okay.
Here in Illinois we are working our way out of quarantine to the point where recreation riding is allowed (although a lot of our riding friends are already on their mc’s).
Medical data suggests that our door will open on June 1.
Take care.
The restrictions are easing here in Idaho but we're still being careful and socially responsible. Hoping for the best as we open businesses and begin to resume an altered state of daily routine. Thankfully it's easy for me to escape to the countryside on my motorcycle. Thanks for watching.
Nicely done
Thanks. Can't wait to pull the bike out for another run.
Woow amazing motorcycle .it's my dream motorcycle. But there is only honda yamaha suzuki in my country. Bikes that exceed 250cc capacity are prohibited. Thanx for sharing .take care.
Thanks for watching and posting the comment. I have owned a Honda and Yamaha. Good brands. I like riding everything with two wheels. Bicycles, too.
Excelente video. Tus videos son ejemplo para mi que estoy comenzando a grabar
Excelente. Viaja seguro.
I also own a BMW R1150R, beautiful machine. :) Just be careful when downshifting in corners. Because the bike has a dry clutch and 1130 ccm, it is very easy to lock the rear wheel, if you don´t match the revs during the downshift. At 2:16 it seems that the rear wheel could have locked during downshift (luckily it hasn´t) - maybe too little throttle was added. Just be careful and stay safe, keep doing the good work, I love your videos. :)
Thanks for the pointer. I think I recall the part in the video you reference. If I remember correctly, the corner was sharper than I had anticipated and I dropped 2-3 gears in a hurry. I like the R1150R a lot. I've always been a big fan of BMW's flat twin roadster models. Thanks for the feedback.
I also removed the power pump and converted to manual braking what a difference so much more feel, do it you will not regret it!
My experience with the module failing frightened me. Fortunately I was going slow and had room to maneuver. At speed on a twisty road would have been terrifying. The servo assist brakes were a good idea by BMW but not engineered properly at the time that my bike was manufactured. I don't think I'd trust the ABS pump again, if I had it rebuilt by someone. So I will be converting. The hydraulic part of the job looks easy but I need to do some more research to sort out the electrics. Thanks for watching.
@@WheelStories Why BMW ever fitted it, is a nonsense nearly all R1150R's in the UK are converted to manual I wonder how much litigation was involved, sorry but your fear now will be the other 1150R still using the power brakes?
I just picked up an 04 1150r, twice as big as my last bike that I rode OVER 22 years ago. It's nice to be back on and what a pleasure this thing is to ride!!! I was wondering if you have any clue how to change out the intrument bulbs, my high beam is burnt out and I was thinking of changing them all out to led. Any thoughts? Thanks again, I enjoy your videos and perhaps you may encourage me to make a few of my own. I'm blessed to live right off Mullholland & Benedict canyon and I try to take my R through at least one loop per day. Hope to hear from you, my name is Don. :-)
I've never had to replace any of the dash bulbs. There is a message board - www.r1150r.org - I believe is the site, where owners post tech and riding info. Worth checking out. There might be a few videos on UA-cam as well. Enjoy your new bike and ride safe. Thanks for watching.
@@WheelStories thank you!!!
Hej , jou must try a moto guzzi v85tt, i have a bmw but now i ride moto guzzi.
I've always wanted to ride a Guzzi. We don't have a dealer in our area so the bikes are a bit rare. I love the styling of the Moto Guzzi. One of these days I'll get a chance, hopefully. Thanks for watching.
