This tradition has been doing since about 4-thousand years Before Christ (BC) by the " Tao inhabitants " of the so called Philippines nowadays. Filipinos are also being called " Tao " short for Taoist. The oldest belief in the Philippines was TAOISM that is why until today the Filipinos are also being called Tao. FILIPINOS do believe that by doing extreme Loud Sounds such as sounds of Firecrackers can able to push Evil Spirits to go away from the humans communities. They believe Evil Spirits are the ones give BAD LUCKS to humans Once EvilnSpirits live along with the humans. Before the Firecrackers have not been discovered, Taoist or Tao were using BAMBOO and burned it to creat a Loud Sounds. Bamboo has compressed air or pressured air inside of it and when it burns a Loud Sounds will come out that SCARES EVIL SPIRITS.
