There's a couple other options: 1) poll DC from fortigate ,(ie no agent needed, this might be better for smaller environments, also puts more load on FGT 2) fsso collector agent is a free alternative to fortiauthenticator which gets installed on windows, you can use DC agent or polling methods with this (I'd say take a look at this method of you don't have fac)

Yes I believe you need to use advanced mode for Fsso to do it by individual user
