This is one of my all time favorite songs written by Prince and Jill’s voice is magical and brings the song’s story to life and brings me right their with her !!!!
In my next life I'm going to be a torch singer at a piano bar. This will be one song in my repertoire. Nothing Compares will be another. The zinger will be How Come You Don't Call Me anymore. Needless to say I'm going to be a legend...again...in my next life.
Just another great gift of music given to us by Prince....this whole album jams...the horns and that Revolution sound...shit between this album, Sign of the Times, and Under the Cherry Moon...a good time to be a teen in the 80's!!!
EVERYTHING you said is absolutely true! This entire album is Prince and The Revolution through and through. Dating myself, I still have this album on cassette. The CBS Tribute to Prince and this song’s Funky bass line brought me here. Don’t forget the band “Madhouse” in your mid 80’s Paisley Park music timeline.
Louis Cole (from Knower) has a very similar sentiment to this with regards to chords and vocal harmonies. I immediately thought of him and the slow Knower tracks like "More Than Just Another Try" and "That's Where You Are".
I wish there was an extended version of this, because i tend to listen to this multiple times in a row - One of my alltime favorites written by Prince and the sheer beauty of Jills voice here is so captivating. The Sax, the strings arrangements - It all fits together so wonderful.
I still have this vinyl...loved this one and G Spot. Prince really hit his prime around this time. The Family was another great project as well as Mark's Mazerati.
@@pennydaytreasures8173 actually, Sign O' The Times was hampered by Prince not wanting to tour more in the U.S., thinking that folks would just see the concert movie...but many did not because it had a very limited number of theaters it was released in.
I just bought a secondhands 80's oldschool hifi music instalation! It feel so good to play that vinyl album! Still got it! 😊 For me the only good song on the album together with G-spot. It brings me back to the 80's. 😢
What's a woman 2 do? Across the street waits a man she's promised 2 And in her presence is another with eyes of violet blue All aflame her body when he approaches - steam heat She closes her eyes, imagines his voice - so sweet, so sweet 11 minutes and she'll be late What's a woman 2 do? Across the street waits the man she's promised 2 Indecision reigns and the catalyst: eyes of violet blue 11 minutes 2 love is 2 little, 2 much I could listen 4ever but if I hear 2 much It could stay in my mind and all could be lost If I'm not careful, I'd never want U so We already lost one minute 4 us that's one more year we got in it 4 us that's one more year things we don't know 11 minutes 2 love Is he married? One day does he wanna be? I wish I could tell just from holdin' hands But with his eyes so gentle, he whispers Only mental communication is all he wants me 2 hear Even though I don't want 2 I must leave him now I can't let him see my tears Though I turn away and notice the time - it's late But what's a woman 2 do? What's a woman 2 do? The eyes were violet blue {x2} And I could see 4ever the eyes of violet blue And that's what a real woman, real woman wants 2 do (Love) {x4}

Miss those days. Hate getting old.

I hear Eric Leeds working his magic on the horn!

I hear Teena’s influence ❤❤❤
This song does it for me every time and will always be my favorite by JJ.

I agree! That Paisley Park sound - 1985 thru 1987 - were the best years (Jill Jones, The Family, Sheila E, Mazarati)

The man bled music. I’m glad he found worthy transfusion candidates. Some of his protege albums are some his best work.
One of Prince's best side projects. Still have the vinyl album.
Great Music🎼!!! Thank You, God, for the talent you produced named Prince Rogers Nelson!

Imagine if Tina Marie had done a cover of this...
Takes me back, 87 was a great year for Prince, I think he peaked that year
87 was definitely his peak... Sign o the times was his masterpiece... for sure.
Every album was his peak:) it’s just his fame was peaking

So beautiful...written perhaps by Prince no??
👍 yes
She sounds like Teena Marie 💜
Well, she did do backup vocals for Teena. But she does sound a lot like her, especially on this song.
@@MzRedRenaThis was an iconic era that will never be repeated, or duplicated ❤
Such a sexy sexy song.

The strings are laid on a little too thick on this one. It teeters on hokeyness
