Your work in Silat is most impressive I must say. You are definitely one of the more competent Pendekar's in your field in encouraging students to commit to their strikes using pad work. Has the new Professional Pentjak Silat Championship come to your attention by chance?

Thank you for your comment... I used to fight in tournaments before, but when I found my teacher in Guru Ma Prem, I learnt that there is specific training for tournaments, and then there is specific training for real street self-defence. When we practise silat, we also train the central nervous system, whereas in tournaments, you train for points. But with training of the cns, training for points limits your ability to read an oncoming attack in a real life situation. For some people however, tournaments are a good way to go for sport and practise, but for me, in this field anyway, it's not an option. But the SFA team is always happy to support the Pencak Silat family, and in fact, we have a group from the US, who run and participate in several Silat tournaments and have done really well and continue to do so.

@Satria Arts True enough that the Olah Raga is point based, but the PPS is full contact. Here is the trailer for more explanation: ua-cam.com/video/zv1GTv3erCY/v-deo.html

Any tips on knee health for someone already practicing harimau that gets clicking and swollen knees with long periods of low and explosive stances?

I would have to observe how you are moving etc.. Good posture, correct bio-mechanics, right transitions and distribution of weight, good conditioning and stretching all play a huge part in fixing a lot of the issue we have with the body. I am 50 years old this year, and my knees still serve me well. I also have trained a lot of students who have had knee problems and other issues with their bodies that have been able to fix them, all through correct training and good biomechanics.

@@SatriaArts thanks Steve. I am pretty flexible and can do the splits and squats and deadlifts aren't an issue I think I'm going to train some specific positions more and see if I can regain some static knee strength I used to have. I believe I can get it back

    Online course?
How about if you have no partner?

Some of our lessons require solo training, however, in order to practise the applications, a partner is always useful. Otherwise, you have to shadow spar and practise only jurus.
