I started growing corn 50 years ago because of the greenbug problem with Sorghum on the high plains of Texas. Back then Sorghum and corn had similar yield potential. We started out planting 34,000 to make 200 bu with some erect leaf varieties. We still plant up to 34,000 and after many years of population trials for 300 bu corn that is 33,000. In NW Texas We have very good loess soils and lots of solar energy to grow corn. Infact 450 bu. corn has been grown around here if enough water is applied. Now, we can plant one seed in a space about 6 1/3". Where in 1960's doubles and barren stalks were the norm no matter what we did. I think answers might be in more leaf area and larger ears. Many of the things you talk about were discussed when I was getting my Soil Science degree, now the application is more realistic.
Great content but awful camera work. I'd rather look at his slides the whole time which would be helpful! Hard to follow when you can't see the figures.

Why on earth would the camera stay on Fred's outstretched arm and not rather show the screen?
Who ever filmed this video should have focused on the screen of information and not the speaker.
