    These vans were sold in canada in the early 80s, same styling never knew the name though, my uncle was a toyota sales rep back then and even was in a toyota jump commercial. He sold one to my grandmothers then boyfriend and they came to visit us. I have always wanted one since then, that was in 1983.

    Not my favourite engine, but they do go for ages.
    We have one at work, (where it's basically only driven in 1st and 2nd gear - it's a port hack - and it's done well over 300K)
    Unfortunately, the Timing-belt warning light is on constantly.
    Dunno if it's gonna get any love, but the body is in amazing condition - it lives at the port, with all that lovely salt air blowing over it...

    • @MyRetroVans
      @MyRetroVans  2 роки тому

    I want one. They cost a pretty penny here in the states but this would make a great road trip/overland rig. The rear sunroofs remind me of my first car, 1992 Oldsmobile custom cruiser wagon. It had a rear moonroof but they made them so they don’t open. ✌🏼🇺🇸🇯🇵🍻

    Hey mate, does it have a lot more room behind the drivers seat than the Granvia for a camper conversion? I don't really like the engine under the drivers seat, but I suspect that gives the Super Custom something like 25cm of extra interior space? Thanks!

    • @MyRetroVans
      @MyRetroVans  3 роки тому +2

      I don't have the exact measurements for behind the driver's seat right now, but in terms of total interior space the typical HiAce 100 is longer at 3155×1525×1345 while the Granvia is 2910×1635×1375. The latter is wider and has slightly more head space though!

    Nice Video. I'm considering buying one of these after living in SE Asia and experiencing them first hand. There, they use them for transport a great deal. So I'm assuming they are very reliable?
    I live in Northern California - SF Bay Area. Is there a particular model you recommend? I would like to use it for road trips in the US. I'm thinking of doing a cross country trip. Would something like this be suitable?
