Thanks to EACH AND EVERY ONE of YOU ! I started this channel to talk to my father about what happened in CB and HAM radio since he stopped 1990. ALL that subbed up to me...I cannot THANK each YOU ENOUGH ! You all keep me going !!
I learned how to tune mine more skillfully by watching you - thanks! Folks, the UA-cam app lets you stretch to zoom - really helped on my small screen.
I think I shall get this radio, but with the mod performed by someone more qualified than me. My county is starting a SAR team, and this radio would be useful for monitoring the supplied police radios as needed, transmitting on HAM where applicable (I am licensed), but also reaching out to simplex FRS/GMRS radios in a life-threatening emergency situation. This is the exact review I was looking for.
Your welcome ! Should come in handy for your uses ! I have another that is a TYT-9000 cheaper, similar features but that radio seems to get mixed longevity reviews. I have seen this mod done with someone just by just crushing the part off the board with a needle nose tool ! Most ham radio stores you can purchase it with the mod pre done for a fee. Let me know how it turns out !
Missed the option on gigaparts, so saving $35, unless they cancel my order as requested 30 mins after entering it. Dawn "ah, the Mars mod..., I can not stop the order, but, maybe let me email them..., " no cc to meme....
Do you have any idea why my wife's 6000R never gets a receive signal in the 392.**** Mhz range and our yeasu 8900 does? I wanted to be able to monitor the emergency band around 392.**** in my area. Thanks
Will/Did the Mars Mod let this transmit in the GMRS freq range (460.000 ish mhz) or was that another mod entirely ?Thanks help full video & thanks for sharing !
I have same radio. Today when I turned it on, every time I try to change a setting or use any button, it’s says “locked” on screen. How do I unlock it? I read the whole manual and there’s nothing about it
1. Short- Press the Power (Lock) switch, "LOCK" is shown on the display for one second, and then the keys and DIAL knob are locked. 2. Short- Press the POWER (Lock) switch again "UNLOCK" is shown on the display and the keys and the DIAL knob are unlocked. Let me know if this helped you !
This worked but did wipe out my memories. No problem, except that I alwards forget you have to intially read from the radio before you write to it otherwise you get an error. I have no idea why that is, but always confuses me.
Mod worked, thank you for taking the time to do this video. I saw a comment that the memory was wiped after. This also happened to me. I originally programmed it with YPS and USB-77 cable. However after the mod it wipes of the memory every time i try to reprogram it with a coffee ALL.RST. Is this expected? Anyone else experiencing this too? Don't misunderstand me, no regret and was at my own risk. Just trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or of this is a consequence of the mod. BTW, i am able to manually program it and it stays in memory, just can't program it with the software and cable.
Thanks Eric, I rally appreciate your video. I bought a 6000r and flicked that tiny little chip out with my soldering iron. And it does now transmit on GMRS frequencies, for which I am licensed. I have been unable to find and download the SCC-58/SCU-40 usb cable drivers (if you could help me out there, I'd appreciate it.) Thus I resorted to manually programming a couple of repeater channels in the radio. The first is a 2 meter ham repeater (also licensed) and that channel works. I have also tried to program in a split channel for a local GMRS repeater, but it appears the split doesn't work. It seems the only frequency in the channel is second freq that I programmed. I used the same directions from the advanced yaesu 6000r manual for both channels. Have you been able to program any GMRS repeater channels? Is there a trick to it? Thanks for the help. BillPilot
That is great ! I included that manual: www.yaesu.com/downloadFile.cfm?FileID=17445&FileCatID=42&FileName=WIRES-X_Connection_Cable_Kit_Driver_Installation_Manual_ENG_2205-A.pdf&FileContentType=application%2Fpdf Please let me know how it goes.
Look up a video on how to desolder, Harley - it's all you need to do here. SMT is surface-mount technology - the super tiny discrete components that sit on little solder pads.
Well I guess you are so Smart that you can’t even spell YAESU when it’s on the Face of the Radio and all over the box and owners manual? There is NO SUCH THING as a YEASU.No wonder most of your videos are about the CHILDREN’S BAND.😂🤣😜🤪

Any regrets with this mod ? I know of a FTM-3207 that had this done and continues to work great across the UHF band (its a UHF only radio)
No regrets with this mod !

I wish they would include SSB on this radio.
SSB would have been a great feature on this radio !
The 108 MHz band is FM and not Am. Do you have the radio on a dummy load? If the SWR is high your transmit output will be low.
No, 108-136 is aviation. ALL AM

"talking trash" had to figure out what you were actually saying. "Can't have bad components on the board" LOL
Yes I used a little "code" there, but that is the one to remove !

I can't understand why these major manufacturers haven't gone to a software only lock like the cheap Chinese radios. It shouldn't be this difficult.
I agree. aAcouple of button presses on powerup is useful. However the software does make it easy to program and backup after it's unlocked !
Will/Did the Mars Mod let this transmit in the GMRS freq range (460.000 ish mhz) or was that another mod entirely ?Thanks help full video & thanks for sharing !
It will transmit on all. The MARS/CAP mod allows full transmit. It has a lower on outer bands as demonstrated
@@EricTechstuffs Thank you so much just got it doing this now ❤️
Thanks for your video Eric. Excellent job.

I really like the ftm6000, great little rig. It is much like the 7800r it replaced, with a few little changes..
It is a great little rig for sure !
This worked but did wipe out my memories. No problem, except that I alwards forget you have to intially read from the radio before you write to it otherwise you get an error. I have no idea why that is, but always confuses me.
Thanks, he didn't mention this in his video. I figured it out on my own, then seen your comment. should put your comment to the top.

Sorry for the delay I have not experienced this issue. Did you try programming with CHIRP to see if the memories save ?

I have not any issues in GRMS programming. I used the Yeasu programming cable and software to program. From my PC.
Was this program cable included with the rig or something that is purchased separately?
Do you have to remove the resistor or can you just dabble a little solder on top to let the current go through the solder instead of the resistor?
You have to remove the resistor jumping will not work, has to be open. Thanks for watching !
@@EricTechstuffs perfect. Thanks!
How do you open to go up to 446.
It worked. Thank you!
You're Welcome !
I was wondering if there was a good site to have the mod done? I have a FTM-6000R and would like to do this.
It is simple to to do by removing that small part !
How do you take the inhabited off
waiting on my radio to get here from hro and then you know what is going to happen...woohoo
That is great ! Glad I could help you !
Thanks for the demo but how about more detailed info about doing the mod ??? I just bought one of these radios.
All you have to do is remove that one part !

Stupid question, but does this mod allow tx on the full 2 meter band?
It already does full 2m band..
@@clems6989 I meant beyond the normal 144-148 MHZ side. If I wanted to transmit on 154.370 for example, would it let me?
Yes the mod will allow full VHF band and UHF band coverage.
Great vid! Where can I get that purple mat?
Thanks for watching ! I bought the mat it off Amazon. You can usually find them in craft stores as well.
And AIR RX 8,33kHz!? Aby info? Thx
yes, no tx on am AIR BAND THOUGH
Will it open the 220mhz?
Unfortunately, it will not open up the transmit function but open up just the full UHF / VHF.
I see you Corrected your Incorrect Spelling from YEASU to YAESU after I Corrected you.😂🤣😜🎙
of course, I am a man not a radio god. I can take corrections 😁
@@EricTechstuffs I knew you were not a radio god since you don’t use ONLY ICOM Gear.🤪🤣🎙

I am unsure if this is the same. Is the E version European version ? Mine was just the USA R version.
