There's actually a name for it. We in the mountains call it the Appalachian cry, or wail. It's the hardship, struggles and soul of the mountains coming through
If you want to hear something amazing, Colter Wall and Tyler Childers did a duet together called "Fraulein" The song itself won't blow you away, but hearing them sing together is something special.
As a recovering addict....this song literally carried me through my time in treatment. EVERY time I wanted to throw in the towel...I would play this song, and it is what motivated me to keep working on myself. Will always love this song for that. Also....Tyler is amazing.
This is a very deep and real song. I love your reaction to it. When I see someone’s face reaction to the first listen to this song I re-feel it myself. My son is 38. He plays guitar in a band and he gigs solo acoustic. He plays this song and it’s just as chilling to see my own red headed country boy sing this as it is to see Tyler sing it. This song always quiets the crowd and they listen as if in church. It just amazes me every time. Thanks and keep listening to Chill-ders
I live just a few counties over from where Tyler is from, deep in Southeastern Kentucky. Thank you for wanting to learn more about our people, our region, our troubles and the things that make this one of the most beautiful places on Earth. My grandfather was one of those deep miners. ❤️💔. Tyler is the voice of our region.
I’ve seen a lot of reactions to this song, but this one is my favorite. You hit the nail on the head, as far as I’m concerned. Although media and politicians want rural folks and urban folks alienated from one another and adversarial, the struggles that a young man in Eastern Kentucky feels is so wildly similar to what a young person from inner city Detroit, or any big city for that matter, also feels. The deck is intentionally stacked against poor folks, no matter what you look like or where you come from.
Sebs, you got it right with this song and your changing approach to music and culture. We all have far more in common than what separates us. One thing that people overlook is that most of the music we hear all have common elements and a common beginning. Country, and blues and gospel all came from the same place-traditional/folk, which in turn gave birth to Jazz and then Rock music. R&B, Hip hop and metal all by-products of the fusion of all of these different genres of music. If you pay attention and listen you can hear those common threads. And then we broaden our minds, open our hearts, and hopefully become more accepting. Excellent job, again!
It's not our life differences dividing us as a country. The media and the politicians keep us divided. We are all the same. Whether you were raised in the Appalachian mountains (like me) or raised in a city, we need to ignore the media and politicians and talk to one another and come together. United we stand, divided we fall. It's time for "We the people, in order too for a more perfect union" come together and talk to one another and stop shouting down at one another.
Red-headed singer-songwriters are pretty hot right now - but Tyler kind of started that whole thing. One of the best lines I've ever heard in a song - "takes twice as long to build bridges you've burned". That's some truth. If poor rural people and poor urban people were ever to compare notes, they'd find they have a LOT in common.
I’m very glad you focused on the one paragraph you did, and I may be interpreting it in the wrong way, but I think it’s almost explicitly about drug (pill) addition. For context, I had some major surgeries (to include a hip replacement) due to my time in the Army. I took my opioid pain pills as prescribed, but holy sh*t, I had some nasty withdraw symptoms when they were gone. “A man is just as good as his word” - someone promising (or lying) that they’ll get clean. “It takes twice as long to build the bridges you burned” - it takes twice as long to fully recovery from an addition compared to how long you were using. “There’s hurt you can cause time alone cannot heal” - there are permanent health problems you may never be able to recover from following addition. “Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills” …
You aren’t even scratching the surface. Stoney LaRue, Shane Smith and the Saints, Whisky Myers, Ryan Bingham, Cody Jinks, and American Aquarium to just name a few. You have a rabbit hole here and I highly suggest you go down it.
The lyrics are so relatable to rural families. You work until your body’s broken and the doctor prescribes medication you end up abusing because you’re in so much mental and physical pain. The lyrics about burning bridges… man, I felt that.
Dang, I haven't heard this guy before. I've suggested and contributed to several artists to be played, but I'm not sure I've heard someone like this guy. He's pretty incredible.
I think anyone who loses their father can relate to this song. At least I can. I lost my dad 9 years ago right after my wife and I had our little ones and not having him around has been tough. Having to help my mom and take care of things at their house while trying to be a husband and father while drinking too much has been hard. God and my family are pulling me through though.
It’s the powers that be that are separating our country. Imagine how powerful we’d be if we all worked together toward a common goal. They don’t want that.
Recovering addict myself from prescription opiates. 4 years clean and sober. Hardest thing I've ever done. Still to this day I crave em and have triggers. I'm lucky to be alive I was taking 10 percocet 10s at a time. Thankful to be where I am today
You HAVE to do BlackBerry Smoke ‘ONE HORSE TOWN’. Then you can have fun going down the BBS rabbit hole Love the channel. Thanks for everything you do for us
If the controversial song you're talkin about is Long Violent History, personally, I think you give it a listen, and then, give the video a watch that Tyler put out about it. Tyler's a sharp guy, got clear eyes
Hi I’m from Pike county (where he’s singing about) drugs are horrible here. They started being prescribed at an unprecedented rate in the early 2000’s and that was that now everyone’s on meth or heroine. I don’t think there’s a single person that lives in this area that hasn’t had multiple loved ones OD. Plus I’m a nurse so I’ve seen plenty. It’s horrible and never spoken of!
Help a fifty year old white boy out. Love your reactions btw…what does “broke me” mean to you? Lol I have another word “Hyperbole”. If this generation continues to use terms like this for minor things, words will lose their meaning. If a lady whose baby died says “it broke me” does it mean the same ? Lol of course I’m being a jerk. But still.
Anything that takes you from a good place to a sad place is what it's referring to. If a mother looses a child and says she's sad then does that mean the word sad can no longer be used in any other situation that doesn't measure up to that loss? There's different levels of feelings so you could be heartbroken (which is were the term I'm broken comes from) from a song, break up ECT...or it could be extreme like the loss of child or loved one. That's like saying you can't say you're happy for something like a new job because it doesn't measure to the happiness of seeing your child born. Man at 50 you should know this
That cry in his voice gets me every time. You can’t go wrong with any Tyler Childers. “Follow You To Virgie” is amazing. You will love it.
That song is rough for me to listen to. The waterworks are definitely coming when it comes on.
There's actually a name for it. We in the mountains call it the Appalachian cry, or wail. It's the hardship, struggles and soul of the mountains coming through

More Tyler Chill-ders please.
That Appalachian cry as its known in the mountains he does gets me every time.
As a recovering addict....this song literally carried me through my time in treatment. EVERY time I wanted to throw in the towel...I would play this song, and it is what motivated me to keep working on myself. Will always love this song for that.
Also....Tyler is amazing.
Follow you to virgie!!
Tribute to a friends grandmother who watched over his band
Beautiful song
YES!!!!!!! Been waiting for a while for this one. So few voices like Tyler's.
And don't stop here. Go right on down the rabbit hole. All Your'n, Whitehouse road, feathered indians, In your love, ....soooo many amazing ones.

Keep in mind, a man is just as good as his word.
No truer words have ever been spoken.

Check out Tyler Childers "Hard Times". That song broke me.
I’m glad you’re trying to learn. The folks that live out here see this every day. We feel this. I’m just glad everyone else can too.

Yes! This native Appalachian mountain girl is loving the "ginger soul" roots explosion. ❤
Thanks for sharing life is hard stay free and stay strong
Thanks for yet another new artist - powerful lyrics.
I wish I could listen to Tyler Childers again for the first time man.
I’m very glad you focused on the one paragraph you did, and I may be interpreting it in the wrong way, but I think it’s almost explicitly about drug (pill) addition.

Can’t mistake that voice. Great reaction. And Sebs, it’s pronounced ‘chill-ders, like chill. Love ya man. ♥️

Because Tyler Childers is a world class story teller who reaches into you and holds your heart.
Tyler Childers has many good songs. Love it! ❤️
Dang, I haven't heard this guy before. I've suggested and contributed to several artists to be played, but I'm not sure I've heard someone like this guy. He's pretty incredible.
I'd highly recommend Lady May or All Your'n with your wife. I think you'd both enjoy either of those songs. Just earnest, beautiful love songs.
I think anyone who loses their father can relate to this song. At least I can. I lost my dad 9 years ago right after my wife and I had our little ones and not having him around has been tough. FINALLY! Man I’ve been waiting for you to listen to Tyler!
I love you allow and share your true emotions. Thanks for being real.
Sebs, love you brother! You're a pure soul.
One of my Top 3 all time favorite songs, Tyler's stories remind me of the advice and teachings of my grandfather who raised me.
I literally laughed at this video. So glad you are into country right now. It's totally legit. People just don't get until they hear the words.
Tyler Childers Feathered Indians is a great one to react to.
I love me some Tyler Childers do one of my fav songs from him shake the frost so good 🎶😉✌🏽 music is life !!
It’s the powers that be that are separating our country. Imagine how powerful we’d be if we all worked together toward a common goal. They don’t want that.
This is a really refreshing take on this song. It takes a good man to admit they made fun of someone and changed their tune, pun intended. Huge props.
Lady May a love song he wrote for his wife would be one of his songs you would appreciate.
First time for this artist for me I'm liking this.
This is a good song to listen to when you’re getting ready for the day.
That’s the Appalachia sound. It’s a haunting, primal cry.
Epic song!!!
I think you would love using again by Benjamin tod. Again just a dude and his guitar singing his heart out with a unique voice.
Recovering addict myself from prescription opiates. 4 years clean and sober. Hardest thing I've ever done. Still to this day I crave em and have triggers. I'm lucky to be alive I was taking 10 percocet 10s at a time. Thankful to be where I am today
Happy Birthday 🎉
Tyler Childers is a recovering addict. I believe he is at 2 years clean.
You HAVE to do BlackBerry Smoke ‘ONE HORSE TOWN’. Then you can have fun going down the BBS rabbit hole

Amazing video.
Love this song.
If the controversial song you're talkin about is Long Violent History, personally, I think you give it a listen, and then, give the video a watch that Tyler put out about it. Tyler's a sharp guy, got clear eyes
Demon Copperhead is a great read, by Barbara Kingsolver that will give you a good understanding and hopefully empathy of the people Appalachia.
