I lived there in 1974 my parents had a restaurant named the "feedbag etc" in a old barn across the street from an old meat packing plant I believe . Went to school in an old red brick school house on top of a hill. Bobsleded down cemetery hill. Yep good times
When you drove by Elizabeth, if you blinked you would miss it, back when I lived there in the early 80's. I remember hanging out at Geason's grocery market playing Ms Pac Man and Tron. I can't remember the full name of the restaurant that had the name 'Iron' in it. I think it was the only restaurant in town back then.
I live in Elizabeth, Colorado. And the American Legion is where I would do. Girl Scouts and I remember in second grade. A went on a field trip to the cemetery to do a veteran's day celebration
He would not recognize it now. Even since I made the video we have grown in major ways. We have gotten Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, and will soon have McDonalds. The ranch land around the town has neighborhoods in them now, and those that don't will soon have them.. .
Damn times have changed I remember the only thing they had was the Main market and Norms video across the street! Hell the dirt roads are gone I bet little Chicago is gone too...What did you people do to Elizabeth.
I am willing to bet we have indoor plumbing in most places now... :) If you have not been here in a while, you would not believe how much it has grown around here. While not all the roads within the town of Elizabeth are paved yet, they are few in number. Since they tore down the BBQ/Gas station on the corner of Main Street and Highway 86, they have been holding concerts and events on the empty lot. I believe there are more fests and public events than in the past. They close down Main Street numerous times throughout the year. Our local events are getting larger each year. There are still quite a few novel businesses (antique, salons, leather, alpaca fiber arts) on Main Street. The old butcher plant (now totally remodeled) on Main Street next to the old library (now Mountain Man nut & fruit), just opened two weeks ago as the new Elizabeth Brewing Company. There will be a major nursing home built on the SE corner of Highway 86 and Co rd 17 supposedly by Oct. The field across the road north of the Post office complex has roads for new businesses, but only two have been built so far. Now we have a Walmart/Taco Bell, and a few other businesses on the west side of town along Highway 86, there is a new large housing area being built just to the south of it. There is also a large community being built in the fields north of Hilltop Road and south of the Singing Hills/Delbert Rd junction on the way to Parker. Not much is happening on the east side of town yet. Elizabeth still has the small town feel, and one of the major benefits of the growth is that Elbert County gets some of the benefit of the local money spent and not all of it is going to the towns in Douglas County. Take a look at the overhead Google map to see all the growth that has happened.
