Out of all the characters, Hercules Hansen perhaps had to pay the heaviest price - his choice in saving his 10 year old son over his wife made his son hate him, his ranger duties made him even more distant from his son, and just when there could have been a real future for them, it is taken away from him.
In one fell swoop, he lost his closest friend and his only child, leaving him truly alone. Yet through all that pain and loss, he stands strong, he steps up to inherit the duties of a Marshal and even finds it in himself to smile that Mako and Raleigh was able to seal the Breach and save the world.
No parent should have to bury their child, and it hurts even more that Herc would rather die in the Jaeger with his son than let Chuck face it alone but he had no choice but to stand back and let his son go for the sake of the world. Fate can be cruel and now Herc is left with nothing but his son's dog as a reminder of no doubt what he sees as his own failure.
But he is a soldier, and he will carry on to honor all the lives lost by keep going...
Bravo to actor Max Martini for his heartbreaking performance!

I'm always in tears over Herc Hansen, that man's life is just tragic, he's the most tragic character
Herc is the saddest character really and maybe the strongest because he's survived all that - I do believe his brother is still alive somewhere but according to the film's screenwriter, Herc is the one who got his brother booted out of the Jaeger program so that relationship is pretty non-existent, for all intents and purposes, Herc is alone now :(
My mistake. Hercules's brother is still alive. Though that doesn't make a difference to his life, If Scott Hansen is in the sequel then I hope they reconcile.
Herc has one of the saddest background in the Pacific Rim universe. His father, mother, brother, wife and son are all dead.
Except it's the wrong Criminal Minds episode
It's not the "wrong" criminal minds episode because those are the clips I chose to portray a young Herc and his family - I'm very aware the actor was in criminal minds, only his episode doesn't match what I needed to use - so no, it's not the wrong episode

The first time I saw the movie (I only saw it once xD but that...) I really didn't see Herc or Chuck's almost-there tears! and with this im like a... like a damn baby!
