The models are also available separately; you can get sprues of 5 gangers, troopers, robots, and also Space Rangers (which aren't included in the set, but are power armoured troopers)... each sprue of 5 costs £4.99 currently, and they're actually surprisingly versatile for kitbashing too. Well worth investigating for £1 per figure. There are also sprues of tiny plastic spaceships (12 for £6), and metal arms to give different weapon options for the plastic figures.
I think you're right. Good starting point to paint what with the variation. Three factions with different bits and styles to practice. Definitely loving the retro vibe.
this was actually my first dedicated wargaming set. i have no idea how i came across the EM4 site but im very glad i did! these figures are scattered about my collection these days but this is a fantastic starting set for new hobbyists. i don't think i actually played the game though....
That's awesome, and even more so that you stumbled across it by random chance. The rules are really quite interesting, especially with the fact three types of dice are used 😀
I never knew this game existed until this video, and I'm happy I watched it. It definitely has a lot of characterful charm and the art style is so 80's that it invokes so much nostalgia. The older sculpts have that special appearance that modern minis lack. I'll definitely be checking this game out 👍
After watching this video I have to agree that is a fantastic price point for starter terrain a stack of figures and a rule set. Are there better options for terrain and figures certainly but for less than $50AUD you’d be very hard pressed to find it. I also kinda want a copy now
This game deserved more attention back then and still does now! The rules start simple (perfect for beginners) and with the free battle book (expansion) it feels better than necromunda to me, personally. With the additional content from the chronicles-website you can transfer it into nearly any universe. I played a bunch of 300 points-skirmishes and love it. The "keep down" action is such a great addition to the tactical play and the panic/rout-system feels so much better than most of the games back at the time. Retreating from close combat is not simply "success" or "fail and get killed"... I could go on and on about how this game creates so good storys that spark from the decisions you make... I am amassed how such a smal game (compared to the mainstream games from gw) can be equal or even better than its "rivals". From a psychological standpoint it is great for painting-newcomers cause you can paint 5 minis, play, paint 5 more, paint again... When you come to the point where you "need" the heavy weapon-upgrades it's (again) cost-efficient. When you start to add the weapons included in the free battlebook you may feel comfortable enough to try kitbashing/modeling your own weapons... The whole mindset of this game is so... Can't find the right word... Sorry... a german guy trying to find the right word for "just have fun, don't care about other ideologys tailored around expensive models equals winning the game" My favorite "army" is three gangs, four models each. Most of them equipped with machine/meduim pistols. Leaders with an assault rifle. One machine gun/ autocannon wielding ganger and some smoke grenades to block LOS. So much fun! Getting a printed manual for less than 10,- is just crazy-good. The "fluff" that some might miss can be easily filled with your own imagination and for the "crunsh" you have more than enough coming from the chronicles and the battlebook... No matter if you are a newcomer or a veteran, you should have this game in your collection. Thanks for reading this wall of text. Have a nice day!
Thank you for an extremely well thought out response. Casual games can be superior games as there is no incentive to play a meta. Also with limited factions like in this you can just add your own flavour via paint scheme and its enough to have a different squad than your opponent 😀
They're good for starters, the best thing a novice could do is trace the shapes onto something sturdier and build a replacement set for when the originals inevitably wear out.
Specifically ABS plastic, so if you _do_ want to glue them (say, if you want to try re-posing them), you'll need superglue, as poly cement won't melt them.
They have models and rules for an old game called Fantasy Warriors but unfortunately they don't come as a set. There is a core pdf which is free, a supplement book for twenty quid, and you can get an absurd amount of mono pose orcs and dwarves for very little, 50 models for just over a tenner. I just discovered em4 today and I'm buzzing.
The chronicles-website has tons of rules to transfer it from sci fi to fantasy. Or you could just take the core rules and convert them to a different universe!

Even better and a great way to top-up your models. Reminds me of the old games workshop blister packs you could afford with pocket money 😀

And the sheer volume as well. At roughly $1 a figure you can't go wrong!
The most overlooked Game of all times. I still love playing it after twenty years.
@MrNimmy77 that's great to here. The team at e4m seem like a really great bunch too 😀

Thats great! It's nice as well that the company are still family run after all these years so good to support them

@@SpymasterGaming you are doing a great job with your videos. I realy like the "grounded" and plausible way you are representing everything.
@lordanthrax2417 that's very kind of you, I try to stay as objective as possible 😀
Those cardboard terrain pieces may be flimsy but they do have a certain charm.
They do the job, and to give you a feel for wargaming, they look the part 😀
They're good for starters, the best thing a novice could do is trace the shapes onto something sturdier and build a replacement set for when the originals inevitably wear out.
Well this is a nice little hidden gem of a game!
It certainly is, especially considering how long it has been on the market!
Great little set thanks for the recommendation. You may have said this but are the models pewter or plastic?
All plastic on sprue!
Specifically ABS plastic, so if you _do_ want to glue them (say, if you want to try re-posing them), you'll need superglue, as poly cement won't melt them.
It’s so Nineties it hurts. In a good way. The figures look good. Thanks for recommending it for use in OPR.
do they have a fantasy game starter set?
Unfortunately not, they do have a gladiator arena game however 😀

Wish I knew this before Brexit ...
