What a 10-Ounce Day Looks Like on a Bering Sea Gold Dredge

- We finally get on a hot streak after fighting through some unproductive prospecting dives and battling big icebergs.
Our philosophy is this: if you poke enough holes in the Bering Sea, you'll eventually hit gold. With a big 10" dredge and three great divers, the gold comes on fast when you find the right ground.
But our ice problems aren't over yet. While the big icebergs have melted, we still have to watch out for the smaller chunks that are ripping up and down the Nome coast. They could easily grab a diver's umbilical or stop a dive (or two).
But the reward is worth it when you can see gold dust all over the ocean floor!

You GO GIRL. Im primed to see you get some big GOLD this season. If I was a lot younger I would have tried to make my mark up there. I’m disappointed that I missed my chance. Can’t do anything about it now but watch people that I want to go big, make it. Good luck this year to you and all of your team. Btw im in Colorado and I have done a lot of digging in some creeks here.

Such a shame anyone would put Emily down. I used to watch that show, dreaming of going to Nome to participate in the dredging. The show went wonky with a lot of drama, glad to see some realistic work happening here. Much respect to Emily and her crew.

I've been watching since the early days with all the Discovery productions. I have to say this series is shaping up to be a great watch. Good job Emily and whoever is doing your editing. This episode had really cool production value. I especially liked the narration, "did you know" tidbits, and music. Can't wait for more.

Agreed. Less drama, more reality. I want to see what gold mining is all about, so the engineering, business and practical challenges. Discovery seemed to move away from that and focused too much on the drama and personalities. That's even simple stuff like the scores. So someone mined Xoz of gold worth $50,000. Sounds impressive, but I want to learn more about the costs involved. One of the first videos I watched was just the cost of living in Nome, which was pretty eye opening. Or eye watering when she showed the cost of Internet connections!

@@TheEmilyRiedel yes he does. I will share something with you Emily. I had a heart attack on January 18, 2024. They had to revive me after I was not breathing nor did I have a heart beat for 2:30 minutes. I will tell you there is a God and he let me stay here because I told him I wasn’t finished doing something here and I didn’t want to leave my wife alone. With that, I woke and was told welcome back. He has always blessed me with good fortune. The Gold God comment was for fun and to express how you seem to always have to leave at the best times. Nothing more. I am happy for you and how you have grown into who you are now verses your first time on the Bearing Sea. God will provide to you what you will need and more. Just believe in his will for you and your family.

Just wanted to post one thing: even though the Discovery show often had underwater segments (seemingly filmed by a second camera operator, not the diver), I've always had issues seeing the gold when they said "look, there's gold!!". But here, like 3'30 in, it's clearly visible and absolutely stunning!
