Great compilation of top LED bulbs, I only would like to add BFranklin's to this list, as i am sure it deserves attention.
Ordered one of these off Newegg for 6 bucks + some shipping. I won't be buying another one for a while though. I just went out and bought 4 flourescent bulbs for 2 bucks at Goodwill and these ones are 14 watts. The led bulbs are quite expensive, but I thought I'd buy one anyways. I guess it would be worth it to spend a lot of money on these led lights and wait until the money you save covers the cost of the led lights. You could start saving a lot of money by converting a ton of incandescent bulbs to these and eventually it pays off. I'm mostly up when it's dark, asleep when it's day. so I use my lights a lot at night.
CNET's sloppiness of those reviews is appalling. Why don't you at least specify color temperature and brightness in lumens for each of the light bulbs reviewed instead of just waving your arms?
What about HitLights LED bulbs? They come in several sizes, watts and color temps. I love their cool white 8w bulbs, look great and stay cool when left on for days.
GE makes similar bulbs, I replace my halogen light with them. I wanted high CRI lights for the kitchen, they are either 96+ or 93+ CRI.
Which of those bulbs are cool to the touch both the bulb and its base; which of the base of those bulbs if any, will not get excessivesly hot after four hours of use, and less likely to start a fire.
Val
The phillips hue is better since it can change colours and it has a pretty decent brightness level
Problem is most of them are limited to a 60 w equivalent and they are not meant for inclosed fixtures. Incandescent isn’t anywhere near dead.
A majority of the prices of these bulbs have gone way down over the years. I just bought a set of 10 for $40 and they were very similar to the first one.
You can get 6 for $12 at Costco. The dim down to 5% perfectly. The $6 set will flicker.
Hey, how about a Top 5 for Diy Home Security Systems?
I laughed so hard the wine came out my nose...lol
Personally, I use BFranklin's as they fit all my needs.
I seem to be finding a lot of reviews on the cree mostly slamming it for not lasting.
My oldest Cree is 6 year old so far. I have never had ANY LED bulb burn out yet.
What about the infinity LED light bulbs? They run on only 4.4 watts on a 60 watt bulb...
That statement make 0 percent sense. I suppose you 40 pound dog weighs 3 pounds too?
Can you do a top 5 of the pcs that has the intel haswell chip
go to lowes. they have great deals on bulbs. vintage led looking etc. put led in my entire house.
You forgot the switch led bulbs which have a lifetime residential warranty. That bulb should be #1 on the list.
LED's seem to be better than those energy efficient cork screw fluorescents I have everywhere, that are "supposed to last 5 years" but DO NOT, and it's more hassle to send them back or get a refund than it's worth. I'm sharing this on my Facebook page!
Mine last too long, I kept waiting for them to die in a few lamps and finally replaced then with LED so now I have some used ones lying around.
I just replaced all my lights with ge and great value led lights aep the power company for ky helps with the cost I just bought 4 65 watts bulbs for 84 cents each and before that 1.84 and some 2 packs for less than 5 bucks
Sylvania 5000k LED? Or TCP Dimable 5000k LED? My local Hite Company sells them to me for $7.09 a bulb.
Philips hue ???
Whose looking for a bulb that bounces when dropped. :-) Some people just want an efficient bulb
The new Cree bulbs are plastic. The heat sink is on the inside. It may not bounce but it will not shatter. Step on it and it will crack. OOPS!
What about the Philips Hue????? That's even better than the TCP thing
They do not work well with hubs so I skipped them. I have all the lights come on in any emergency. I can also have them flash if a door is left open. You can not do that with Hue since Hue only works with Hue.
If you want a good price on these bulbs, check with your electric company - they often have them markedly reduced in price - often by 80-90%.
The best think about LEDs is the pricing in this video is 4 years old !
were is the Hue ?
I only have one dimmer in my house. The cheap dimmable LED bulbs flicker when say a washing machine is running. This drives me nuts. The garage door opener bulb doesn't flicker. I either go GE or Sylvania. Great Value bulbs from Walmart are crap! Those flicker the worst.
They totally got paid for the #1 I mean they didn't even said how many watts nothing at all
I'll stick with my incandescent bulbs I like them way better
I also review & benchmark all types of bulbs on my channel! Please stop by and let me know what you think!
Why am I here on 2020
So I can get at about 200 regular incandescent light bulbs for the same price as 3 (along with some useless features and another remote to lose).
dragan221 Bro, everyone knows smart lights are overpriced. They're a gimmicky thing you pay for if you have money to throw away and want something funky.
I pay $2 per bulb and they last 50000 hours and use 1/10th the energy. Do the math.
That Cree bulb is outdated by their newer models.
How much did TCP pay to get their ridiculous setup on the top of this list
More then Cree for their Connected bulbs which cost $15 and are wet location safe. I put one on an outdoor lamp on the side of the house. It now automatically come on 10 minutes before sunset via the hub.
GE reveal stinks. Light only comes out the top half of the bulb.
+ToxicTiki For some places that's good but for others not. A good side firing bulb is the Cree.
Pretty useless review. No color temperature and brightness levels (lumens). Color temperature is pretty important to most people... (2700K is too yellow, 5000K is too white) The sweet spot for me is 3000K.
I'm after 100w equivalents (1500-1700 lumens) that use 10-11w. philis claim 11w and cree claim 15w for their 1500 100w bulbs.
Isn't the Philips bulb close enough? Personally, I like high CRI LED bulbs regardless of Lumens.
A High CRI bulb can still switch on and off at 50/100 times every second. In the future they'll probaby start giving a constance meausure. Obviously CNET didn't check the constance of the bulbs. When they sell us light they should say how fast and how much they vary.
Most of these idiots probably wouldn't know which end of the bulb goes into the fixture. I work at Home Depot and Cree gets returned if we can sell them. The worst light you can use is a 27K. research how light affects your health and you will find that full spectrum lighting is the best. Full spectrum is 5K and I have customers young and old that can't believe how much better their home is by going to 5K; and as you age you need more natural lighting to see.
Mayford Davis so what light bulbs do you recommend?? pls respond im looking for new led bulbs this weekend
Home Depot has Ecosmart and Philips; as long as you use "Daylight" which is 5000K. Once most of the people try them they won't use anything else.
+Mayford - Interesting post, but I'm not sure how 5K is necessarily better for your health. I think some prefer the soft white (2700) versus the daylight (5000) in many applications.
Research how light affects health; 27K is very poor light. It's all glare.
I use 4000K in but 6500K for plants which is true daylight 5K is not true daylight.
First
Useless
Since utility bills are rising this year, it's a great idea to check these LED bulbs out.
