There’s still a reason for divisions if playoff seating were by record. The league would continue to schedule 2 games against divisional opponents. Your divisional record will still be a tie-breaking factor .
The current system is bad. They are rewarding teams for being in a bad division. Not only should PO seating be determined by record, only the top 7 teams by record should be emitted into the Playoffs in each conference. That means the 7-9 Bucs team in 2022 is out.

NFL divisions are miles different than college conferences. No way the mountain west conference will ever be as competitive as the SEC. Those schools just dont have the same level of resources. In the NFL if you can find the right coach and QB combo you can turn around a franchise ASAP.
I like system NFL has in place. Add more playoff brackets, adding more possible scenarios for 4x wildcards for each conference, 3x semi divisional round, 2x divisional, 1x championship, then the Superbowl.
