You forgot the cheap hotel part. Besides those men are gay.
Ouch! Of course, the remark didn’t bother Columbo in the least.

Until I read about the landings at Tarawa in WWII, I never knew that Eddie Albert was a hero. His actions directly led to saving the lives of over 40 Marines. For this, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
He, and so many other movie/TV icons like him, were solid human beings...so unlike what we see in the entertainment genre these days.
@@georgemurphy2579 I think there are many current actors/actresses who are good people, the media just focuses on anything negative because it seems to draw more views than positive stories. But Eddie Albert was definitely a class act.
Can you imagine going from enemy bullets to starring with Eva Gabor? Who does THAT happen to?
So what?

Absolutely

The little details, like when Albert stops and looks at the detectives so they take their hands off him. Fits the character so well, and shows great writing
I'm addicted to these Columbo clips on UA-cam. Though I was a kid when these came out, I was old enough to have remembered that you could smoke everywhere you went, but I'm drawing a complete blank. Columbo had his cigar with him no matter where he went -- in restaurants, in people's homes without even asking, and here in a museum. Man, I sure don't miss those days.
Why he rarely lit it. I think falk does not smoke.
You don't remember people smoking everywhere? I certainly do. Everywhere there were multiple stinky ashtrays for smokers to dump their trash into. Some people tried to send the "no smoking please" message by removing ashtrays, but then the ash just went into potted plants or leftover coffee cups or whatever else was convenient.
That wasn't even the worst of it--I grew up in Mississippi, the buckle of the "just a pinch between your cheek and gum" belt. I'll take cigarette ashes over snuff spit any day.
@@oneeyedman99 No, I kid you not -- I don't remember that. I remember such things as a smoking section and nonsmoking section on planes (where you could still smell the smoke in the nonsmoking section). I remember smoking being allowed in diners. Bars, of course. But certainly not in museums. Certainly not in people's homes who don't smoke. I would have to agree with you, though, about choosing ashes over spit. 😄
@@TD75 It wasn't paranoia. Cigarettes finally got banned in virtually all places, because it was deemed a carcinogenic health hazard, particularly the second-hand smoke.

Eddie Albert was a true war hero. He won a Bronze Star for bravery at Tarawa during WWII.
So these WWII soldiers who fought but DIDN'T get a Bronze Star were NOT true war heroes and deserve less respect. Got it.

Suzanne pleshette was terrific in the Bob newhart show. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I like the attitude of two guards and the way they were looking at him, whenever he was approaching her to express his apology.
Yes, they weren't going to interfere unless he made a false move. It's funny, but I recognize the grey-haired detective there to arrest him. He had a small part on a Mission: Impossible episode (original series). He didn't speak and was only on screen for a couple of minutes, but I still recognize him.
IMO, Lt. Columbo always expertly custom tailors his questions and mannerisms in getting to the absolute truth. Whereby, the witnesses and criminals alike, have no plausible explanations to the detectives subjective statements. Great episode and characters. Bravo.... 👮🔍🚓
I love the episode. Falk & Pleshette are all time favs. However, I saw her interviewed about this episode and she said she'd been looking forward to working with Peter and he was a complete jerk because of some dispute with the network. He kind of Marilyn Monroe'd the episode, not showing up on time, etc. She was still annoyed 40 years later.
But adore them both.

I like this murderer. Was an another lvl. Looked her eyes and said "Im sorry" - this is the man!
Who nowadays has the charisma of any of these actors. Very few.
The parts where it was not Peter Falk in this scene are glaring, and it's such a shame that his behaviour during the shooting of this episode was so frustrating for the cast and crew. It was a rare blip for the master that we all love, but, we're all human, and we all have our moments.
Where could I find the interview or commentary that describes the filming process? Was Peter difficult to work with in early episodes of the show?
My God! Suzanne was so beautiful...
Great talent on every episode.
The ribbons on that uniform were a soup sandwich. Even though they are out of focus, they are a mess.

she was so Beau.
Why would they have those valuable pieces in a cabinet that anyone could just slide open and steal?
I always figured Columbo had asked them to open it up a few minutes earlier.
TV shows like this were so slooooow paced! This scene goes on and on and on. No drum stings. No musical cues.
And a low camera pointed at Columbia to make him look taller.
And curiously it manages to hook you more than many current series.
@@Ratchet2431 Most modern series assume that the audience has the attention span of a newborn gnat, so they chop up scenes into small pieces. It's annoying and weakens the impact. I appreciate it when a modern series or movie lets a scene breathe, unhurried and shown all in one uninterrupted flow.
Love Columbo and love that scarf and blouse Combo. Can’t be fashion from the 60’s & 70’s.
Columbo could have arrested the Colonel without luring him to the exhibition.
He kinda had to get back at him for making him seasick earlier in the episode.
@@FIREBRAND38 Haha, maybe. I get the impression that Columbo really doesn't like crims. The respect he shows is his way of gaining control over them.
We could think of a few reasons why he decided to do it this way. One is for the heck of it, for personal satisfaction in doing so; another one could be showing the girl who the general really is.
@@marioreds7826 Maybe the writers thought it would make for better viewing?
lets see , he asked her what she thought of the collection , asked if she knew the story behind the book, asked her if she thinks the uniform is nice. On the TV they don't show the corpse of the colonel he killed . Back in the 70's the corpse was in a clear plastic suit bag that the general takes to the boat and dumps in the ocean. I haven't seen that scene in decades.
They are are showing the full original episodes. When they did re-runs in the 80's onwards all shows from the 70's and earlier were cut unmercifullly to make way for extra adverts.

LOL, if I was rich at 62 I'd have a younger girlfriend.
Yes, Eddie Albert was 65, but Susanne Pleshette was 40. Still and age gap, but not Jagger-esque!
not even close to 27.
I've commented excessively on this episode, but I will make two valedictory points (unless the redoubtable Ms. Willett cries: "en garde" again):
(1) Suzanne Pleshette was classy, funny and luminously beautiful. Yes, her character here was slightly irritating but that's not her fault. She was terrific on the Newhart show and she was a great Tonight Show guest. RIP angel.
(2) Eddie Albert, born 1907 actually won the Silver Star. Forgive me if somebody else mentioned this, there are 19M comments. So, when Robert Blake played John List, we had a murderer playing a murderer. Here we have a war hero playing a war hero.
I really like John Wayne, also born in 1907. But liberals like Albert and Fonda were in uniform while he wasn't. Thank God, Gable was a Republican.
Columbo may have looked untidy in the way he dressed . But that was just a cover to make people feel at ease around him . His mind and way of thinking was razer sharp and he had a talent for noticing small deatalis that some people would overlook
Peter Falk wanted Columbo to be as far removed as possible from Gene Barry's Captain Burke. Colomb0 also couldn't afford to buy decent clothing.
I always enjoyed Suzanne Pleshette, but here she plays a naive, petulant, whiny sort of character. A couple of times you just want to smack her! Eddie Albert is, as always, excellent.
This woman looks like a heathy, in shape, sober Liz Taylor ! Something that was not seen often from the reel one !
Oh please ''healthy in shape. sober'' Elizabeth Taylor was the most beautiful woman in the world. IF Taylor enjoyed food it was her perogative. Anyway when E.T. got the role of National Velvet as a child with her violet eyes; the director told her father ''She has the part but don't put mascara on her we do that here at the studio'' Her father replied ''She's not wearing mascara.''
刑事コロンボの原作者は天才!
When the camera is over the shoulder of Columbo talking to Eddie Albert, that is not Peter Falk.
Wonder if one were working on another project? Thus filmed separately.
Her eyes.
Suzanne Pleshette's last husband was Tom Poston. Now that seems like a strange coupling.
Tom postin made numerous appearances on the Bob newhart show, which also starred Suzanne pleshette. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I see Suzanne Pleshette, I give it a thumbs up.
Also, she was better off with Bob..she hooked up with him within weeks of this episode. Maybe she needed therapy?
COLUMBO IS A LIAR!!!! ! lol
Around 0:42, Columbo said there would be "Not one question. Not even a half of a question." and then proceeds to ask her over a half dozen questions:
1. 1:20 - Quite a collection, huh?
2. 1:27 - See that book?
3. 1:32 - Do you know the story behind that book?
4. 2:29 - Isn't that beautifully cut?
5. 2:38 - It's kind of vain, don't you think?
6. 4:05 - You agree with me, don't you?
7. 7:55 - What kind of question is that?
♾️ Mrs. Newhart ❤️❤️
Was there ever a Columbo episode where the villain's acting wasn't top notch as well? I can't think of any. You don't see that very often in a long running show reliant on guest stars, usually there's at least one or two episodes where the guest doesn't really cut it. I guess the producer or showrunner or whoever really knew what they were doing.
