That’s certainly one way to describe those controllers.
Also love Stephen’s reactions to the fireworks.
“It’s TOMORROW…”
Stephen, you live in the South, you know good and well people will be shooting off fireworks for at least the next week as of recording.
3:09 he gives an example of recording macros for fighting games, but my first thought is using it for easier super jumps in Mario RPG lol
Omg you finally got the gamecube keyboard controller! I know you've talked about in the past
I've been a huge collector of GameBoy Colour accessories for a while, currently working on completing the European game collection, missing 25 games out of the 447 (not including PAL). Among my collection, I came across an official DDR pad for the Gameboy Colour, along with the game DDR GB. Basically, you would attach the DDR pad to the front of the Gameboy Colour, which allows you to press certain buttons on the Game Boy (the D-Pad and the A + B Buttons for example).
Oh god the wacky world of old school 3rd party controllers. I miss stuff like this
I got my Dreamcast as a bundle on eBay, and one of the things included was a gun controller.
That was over ten years ago, and I still to this day have no idea what games that gun is used for.
Neat! Some of these functions sound good for accessibility for avoiding pain from repeated button pressing (or just... Not being able to move your fingers that quickly (me!)).
I had the U-Force for NES when I was a kid. It didn’t work at all the way I hoped, so I think we got rid of it. That would have been a neat collector’s item though.
I remember the Argos catalogue here (the UK) had this really weird SNES challenge controller which was shaped like a Sega Mega Drive (Genesis for the Americans) controller but with four buttons. Even given the Mega Drive was more popular than the SNES here, that seems a strange choice.
I grew up with the GameCube and as a very small kid (3 - 6 I would say) I had this tiny blue GameCube controller. It definitely wasn't official but it fit my tiny hands so much better than the normal sized one. It also had an extra Z Button but I don't remember what that did.
It broke at some point, I think the wire came apart but I do still have a super large one that even as an adult is too big for my hands. If you have big hands though it might seem decent.
The glare sent at that light for having the temerity not to have a daylight bulb
Watching this made me realise I never had weird controllers haha, I think "oddest" I had was some off brand Mega Drive controller with blue turbo buttons, probably also intended for shmups but got used by me to do the fastest spindashes in Sonic 2 and 3&K
I think I remember seeing that one in the Argos catalogue back in the day!
@@BlameThande It wouldn't surprise me if that was where my family got it :D I used it way more than the normal controller that's for sure haha
The only "interesting" controller I have is a special Wiimote that I imported from Europe awhile back that was in the shape of the 11th Doctor's sonic screwdriver. I mostly imported it for the novelty of it more than anything else. It surprisingly worked with my American Wii U despite it only being available in Europe. It also cost me quite a bit to import, but it was absolutely worth it. Before the Switch, they region locked the games, but they didn't region lock the controllers. It's great. :D
The most interesting “controller” I have is more of a remote. I have a Panasonic Q with the remote that controls the dvd portion of the console
Ahh the keyboard Gamecube controller! I wanted one of those to play PSO on back in the day, but they weren't readily available. I ended up getting a keyboard with an adapter, I had to import it from Hong Kong I think? Worth it though, it was hard to communicate otherwise.
I miss clear tech shells
They always look neat but the one kind I've had I only had bad luck with.
The weirdest controller I have is the one for PS2 shaped like a Dragon Quest slime. I always wanted the version of it for Switch, but could never really justify buying it. It's a terrible controller to actually use, as you would expect.
I also have a PS2 controller with a fan in it, that's supposed to keep your hands cool, I guess.
Not heard of cpnsole controllers like that before, but I remember the brief craze in the mid-90s for computer mice shaped like things that would be funny for 5 minutes and then really bad shapes to actually use as mice.
The RE4 chainsaw controller or the that one piece of plastic you stuck to the NES controller so you can lay it on the ground
That old numpad controller you saw may have been the ColecoVision controller. It was basically just a big numpad with a dial on the top and the cord was coiled like a phone cord.
When I first got the GameCube, it came with just one controller, so we bought another one, I believe at the same time. The surprising part was that for a long time it was my preferred controller. My hands got used to it. The thumbstick did break, which was upsetting at the time. It was a similar story with the N64, because my dad had one of those Superpad 64 controllers. Not the one with the chopped off handles, but the weird boomerang shape. I genuinely liked that controller, although I must admit... NO grip on the thumbstick. But the neat part, was that you could just pull off the top, and replace it with something better. Nowadays, I use the DualSense for just about everything, and I don't even have a PS5😂
I've never owned a GameCube but bought third party GameCube controllers for the Wii, one was entirely white and the other one was white but with the buttons coloured (not necessarily the right colours).
@@BlameThande The one I had was the "Competition Pro", I absolutely loved that thing. To be fair, a Wii kiiinda is a GameCube, so close enough? I stopped using my GameCube when I got the Wii. I still have it upstairs, but the power adapter is gone, and if I recall correctly, the laser doesn't work on it. Could be fun to restore it one day.
controller algorithm comment
don't think i ever had any interesting controllers, just some off brand like madcatz and stuff but don't remember anything special about them really. most interesting thing that comes to mind is when we were younger my brother would bite the control stick or side of the console for like gba sp when he got angry playing a game so we'd lose the pads for the control sticks pretty quick and have teeth marks in the gba sp.
this day was my birthday yahoo
Controllers collection time
My friend has one of those SNES controllers with the switches but it doesn't have the clear shell, just looked like a souped up regular SNES controller with colored buttons and the switches.
Not the comic sans 💀
The yen is still super weak, it's like 1 USD = 160 yen right now. Perfect time to import lots of stuff like controllers.
The logos for the drawers, are they custom made or car I buy them somewhere?
I don't have any strange controllers but they're neat.
so its the SN P-pad?
Stephen for many years: “Email on phone is bad”
Also Stephen: *owns an adapter to email on a GAMEBOY
I have never sent or received an email on a phone, but mostly because I do not want work following me around.
