THE ASSOCIATION WORKED 18 HOURS ON THIS SONG ! IT WAS FINISHED AT 4 AM, WHEN THEY WERE EXHAUASTED, THEY FINALLY GOT THE HARMONIES CORRECT. ---------THE 60'S 4-EVER !!
I was 13 years old back in 1967 and today I am a 69-year-old senior citizen. Enjoying this blast from my past with this adorable reaction husband and wife couple. My goodness how fortunate we baby boom generations were to have grown up in the greatest decade of Rock & Roll history the 60's. Great reaction to one of the greatest groups ever. Please react to their greatest hit "Cherish." (1966)
I was 10 years old in 67. I remember the 1st time I heard this song it was summer and I was at my buddies house. His mother made us sand and refinish furniture outside. My buddy had his transistor radio on to cklw and this song came on. I thought I was in heaven. It was unbelievable. I couldnt believe how incredible cool that song was. The association had some great hits. Those were the days.
Not a song to overthink. Its just a fun, lighthearted, feel good song that let's your imagination make up it's own visuals. Loved this ever since I was a child.
The song Cherish, like Never My love is a bona fide All Time Classic. Mel, prepare to melt in to your chair as the songs unconditional love washes over you. It is a stunningly beautiful song with all the Associations trademark harmonies and vibe. Shawn, you will love it too! Cheers, RNB
Windy was released July 1967. The oldest band member, lead singer, song writer & musician was Terry Kirkman, born in 1939. He played guitar & recorder exceptionally & is 83 today. They were absolutely fantastic! May I suggest reacting to their, "Everything That Touches You" c1968
1967 Hit Number 1 in the country on the charts. Anyone alive in the USA in 1967 when this came out would have heard this song. Yes some members still alive and performing on oldie circuits.
this is what we called bubble gum music back in the sixties and early seventies it was so light and whimsical and really didn't make any since but we loved it anyway.
Besides the obvious romance in their music , the appearance of such a large group working together presented a very POSITIVE IMAGE about life itself during the turbulent 1960s.
The song is about one of the songwriters daughter when she was young girl. You two keep this going, you are finding some gems and introducing them to new fans.
It's absolutely just "happy" music, that just makes you appreciate the simplicity of the lyrics while the music is just lighter than air while fascinating people just appreciating the life we're given. My biggest memories of this particular song are from when i was a young boy and learning to simply love great music.
I was in first grade when this came out. I used to run around singing it. And so did my friends. This is just a happy bouncy fun song to sing (and even better in a windy day if you're 6! 😉)
THIS SONG WAS COMPOSED BY A WOMAN NAMED RUTHANN FREIDMAN, & SHE WROTE ABOUT A LEGENDARY SAN FRANCISCO HIPPIE NAMED " WINDY WALDMAN " BECAUSE HE MOVED AROUND SO MUCH, HE WAS LIKE " THE WIND " , & SHE WROTE THE SONG ALL ABOUT HIM. ----------------NOW, YOU KNOW. -------------------MJL, 76 Y/O
This was part of the sound track of my first term at University in 1967. I loved The Association, even though my favorite genre at the time was Motown and R&B.
I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for playing ‘Windy’. You 😊guys are 😊great! Terry Kirkman, wrote and sang on this tune. He passed away recently. Another member died of an overdose of heroin back in the late 60’s. Also, Larry Ramos has passed as well. Don’t know about the other members?
Came out in 1969 by Zager and Evans 'In The Year 2525' was a single I bought at age 14 that we used to dance to. We had so much music that kept us busy we didn't think about the warning of its lyrics. We were ignorant children LOL. I liked the beat and I give it a 90 hehehe! Wink. I hear it now and I still love hearing it though now I get the meaning of the warning through it's chilling lyrics. It was a big hit in its day. Film clips are from Fritz Lang's silent epic 'Metropolis' released in 1927. It is beautifully restored to its 1927 theatrical release and out on Blue-Ray disc featuring its amazing original orchestral scoring. Set in 2027 The film is a warning about middle class disintegration and rule by the upper classes to oppress the poor to work the great machines that run the Metropolis. The scientist ruler's son discovers how his dad has been ruling all with an iron fist and decides to find the why of this persecution of the poor. The girl of a poor worker enlists his aid to help her people who are kept in an underground city where they work to total exhaustion. There are many special effects that have be borrowed from later films such as 1982's 'Blade Runner.' There are many hair raising adventures and horrors with the famous last minute rescues. 'Metropolis' ranks up there with some of the greatest films of the Twentieth Century!
ps as I recall that is parts of the Wrecking Crew playing in the back Hal Blaine on drums and Bud Shank, Gene Ciprino on flute wici says that the 5 original members are alive
I requested it too! I was a nine-year old in July of 1967. Lots of skipping on the sidewalk, roller skating with skates you keyed onto your shoes, and playing and singing this song until the grooves on the 45 were worn down. Such innocent times.😊
LOVED this song! LOVED the Association's! IT was all about getting up on the dance floor and DANCING! I'm 72 and remember this song coming out my Senior year in high school. I'd be surprised any of the members are still alive. I'm sure instruments used were the standard drums, keyboards which and guitars. I remember seeing them play on the Ed Sullivan Show.
I got to see them back in the early 80's on tour with the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean. Awesome! Hey give a listen to Les Crane doing Desiderata for an early 70's treat.
We had fun beautiful music to grow up with..I remember being on the beach hot summer day my radio playing great wonderful songs summer you loved and remember
This song just brought me back...wow. I remember being a very young girl and hearing this song on the radio. I loved it. I remember being a little confused about her name being Windy and asking my mom about it. I don't recall her answer, but I remember thinking it was like calling her Wendy, lol. I was too young to pick up on the meaning. I just thought she was a happy girl who made me feel happy, too. Great reaction.
One of my favorite bands from the sixties! Part of the music of my childhood. So much great music from back then! You both rock. Thanks for your reaction ❤🎉😊
Glad you are doing more of the Association. Great pop band from the 60's with lot of hits such as "Cherish", “Everything That Touches You”, “Time For Livin'”, “The Time It Is Today”, “Enter The Young”, “No Fair At All”, "Requiem For The Masses" etc.
Hi Shawn and Mel! LOVE your channel! My name is Wendy and sometimes little kids can’t pronounce my name properly and so I have been called “Windy”! Lol!!!! Thanks for ALL the great music! Peace and Blessings from Australia.
FOLKS-----" WINDY " WAS THE NICKNAME FOR A SAN FRANCISO FREE SPIRIT DUDE, IN THE LATE 60'S " WINDY " WALDMAN WAS HIS NICKNAME, i NEVER KNEW HIS REAL 1ST NAME. The boys used to make fun of us liking them but we didn’t care they called them girlie bands. I never limited myself to any one type of artist, and still don’t. The 60s and 70s had so much variety. Great times ✌🏼
Oh my god, I was obsessed with this song when I was little. The lyrics are so dumb but it's such a pretty song anyway lol. Thanks for taking me back here, I'm glad you guys liked it
Happy song and happy memories. The song is deceptive because it's beautifully arranged and performed, not to mention the harmonies, etc., while still being a pop tune at heart.
I'm so happy that you love the Association, because I believe their music is the most beautiful from the '60s. At times, at the risk of sounding sacrilegious, they're better sounding than their contemporaries the Beach Boys.
The Association turned out some great songs '66 through '68. They broke up in 1972, but the same original members reunited on 1979/1980 for several years. Research The Association HBO Special, where they performed 3 of the songs you've reviewed, but may be even better than the mid-60's versions! Some original members continued on with different players over the years and even in 2023, two original members are still occasionally performing
Finally, somebody discovered "The Association". One of my favorite bands of the 60s. You should also checkout the English band that I was listening to instead of the Beatles, The Dave Clarke 5.
THE ASSOCIATION WORKED 18 HOURS ON THIS SONG ! IT WAS FINISHED AT 4 AM, WHEN THEY WERE EXHAUASTED, THEY FINALLY GOT THE HARMONIES CORRECT. ---------THE 60'S 4-EVER !!
The played at my prom in 1968!! High school in L.A.!!

Great reaction to one of the greatest groups ever. Please react to their greatest hit "Cherish." (1966)
Hah. Was going to say I don't think I recall a time in my life without this song... which is fair, I was 2 in '67. :)
I was 10 years old in 67. I remember the 1st time I heard this song it was summer and I was at my buddies house. His mother made us sand and refinish furniture outside. I agree! And I'm 67
This was #1 the day I was born. It has a special place in my heart.
There's so many of these old songs. It's endless.
This was the Billboard #1 single the day I was born 7/13/1967. 😀
Not a song to overthink. Its just a fun, lighthearted, feel good song that let's your imagination make up it's own visuals. Loved this ever since I was a child.
I wore out my 45 I played this song so many times. Good memories.✌️🌻🌻
This was the first "Rock n Roll" album I bought as a child. I still love it.
The song Cherish, like Never My love is a bona fide All Time Classic. Mel, prepare to melt in to your chair as the songs unconditional love washes over you. It is a stunningly beautiful song with all the Associations trademark harmonies and vibe. Shawn, you will love it too! Cheers, RNB
Facts
The #1 song in the country for July '67 and the #4 song for all of 1967. Thank you for playing such great music, Shawn and Mel.
We all need to be more like Windy! Reaching out to capture a moment. Stormy eyes that flash at the sound of lies. Pure gold indeed! Love from Texas🤠🤠🤠

Good song, Cherish and Along Comes Mary are good also. I appreciate you both keeping good music alive
this is what we called bubble gum music back in the sixties and early seventies it was so light and whimsical and really didn't make any since but we loved it anyway.
The music was so creative back in the 60s and 70s. No autotune just raw talent. Check out another good song of theirs called never my love.
The sound of a care-free youth gone by.
Besides the obvious romance in their music , the appearance of such a large group working together presented a very POSITIVE IMAGE about life itself during the turbulent 1960s.
A beautiful song by them is “Everything That Touches You” beautiful harmonies
The song is about one of the songwriters daughter when she was young girl. You two keep this going, you are finding some gems and introducing them to new fans.
Love this song like it was yesterday...
This might be my all-time favorite pop song. It still sounds so good decades later.
Great song from a great band. Shawn and Mel you are the best
It's absolutely just "happy" music, that just makes you appreciate the simplicity of the lyrics while the music is just lighter than air while fascinating people just appreciating the life we're given.
My biggest memories of this particular song are from when i was a young boy and learning to simply love great music.
This takes me back to an August evening at the beach. What a time to be young. We had the best music.
I was in first grade when this came out. I used to run around singing it. And so did my friends. This is just a happy bouncy fun song to sing (and even better in a windy day if you're 6! 😉)

You now need to listen to "Along Comes Mary" and "Cherish"
You nailed this reaction!😊❤
This was part of the sound track of my first term at University in 1967. I loved The Association, even though my favorite genre at the time was Motown and R&B.
This song was their biggest hit and it was written by a fan of theirs.
"Along Comes Mary" and "Cherish" should be next!
Along comes Mary. Another great song and a hit for them!
Another song from my childhood that I remember well. It's like a male choir.
I had the 45rpm of this song and just about wore it out. Another good song like this is, "I'm A Girl Watcher".
Love sharing great music with you guys.

I was 7 years old in 1967 & appreciated this style of music , of course i'm the last born of my siblings , born in 1959 .
Grew up on 60’s music 🎶 Love it 👏
It's my favorite decade for music fortunate to have grown up then
ps as I recall that is parts of the Wrecking Crew playing in the back Hal Blaine on drums and Bud Shank, Gene Ciprino on flute wici says that the 5 original members are alive
I was born in 1967 and This was my Dads favorite song in so he named me after it ❤.
Cherish should be the next reaction by them.
Cherish!!! Yes!!!!!
@@vickiengels3096 Agreed!
This song was my absolute favorite when I was in grade school.
One of my fave all time groups. The harmonies are right on and the music is perfect.

Thank you for answering my request....I think this will give you a deeper meaning of why people like me Love the Association!!!!

Great music. You're playing the songs of a great era. Love you guys for it.
This song just brought me back...wow. I remember being a very young girl and hearing this song on the radio. I loved it. I still have my 45 RPM single of this song LOL!

Thank you for bringing back an old favorite from my childhood

One of best groups sales and airplay
Glad you are doing more of the Association. Great pop band from the 60's with lot of hits such as "Cherish", “Everything That Touches You”, “Time For Livin'”, “The Time It Is Today”, “Enter The Young”, “No Fair At All”, "Requiem For The Masses" etc.
loved Six Man Band
You guys make me smile... THANK YOU!
The first concert I went to was Tangelwood 69 two weeks before Woodstock. It was Janis Joplin&BBHC, BB King, The Association and Iron Butterfly!
Great concert, great memory
Yeah, man..pleasant memories..and harmonies...

An era that was the best. That was music.
The song definitely has a certain 60's sound. Many songs back then were upbeat with a string and/or wind section (musical instruments) included.
And they were the first pop/rock band that had a Japanese American member as a leader singer.
I remember this song when I was in jr high.😊😊
Thank you both! Always loved this song.
The boys used to make fun of us liking them but we didn’t care they called them girlie bands. I never limited myself to any one type of artist, and still don’t. The 60s and 70s had so much variety. Great times ✌🏼
The lady that wrote this song said it was about the guy she wanted to fall in love with. In another interview, years later, she said it was about her.
As a child in the 60's hearing this was absolute magic
This is the BJ song on Breaking Bad 👍🏽
Oh my god, I was obsessed with this song when I was little. The lyrics are so dumb but it's such a pretty song anyway lol. Thanks for taking me back here, I'm glad you guys liked it
Ya gotta do "along comes mary". There's an 80s/90s funk-metal band 24-7 SPYZ that covered the song.
Happy song and happy memories. The song is deceptive because it's beautifully arranged and performed, not to mention the harmonies, etc., while still being a pop tune at heart.
Loved this spng when I was 8 and stll love it at 63. Nice to see you both enjoying it too. Thank you.
There's a video I saw from 2004 of most of tge the original members singing "Along Comes Mary".
I'm so happy that you love the Association, because I believe their music is the most beautiful from the '60s. At times, at the risk of sounding sacrilegious, they're better sounding than their contemporaries the Beach Boys.
thanks for the 60s flashback... this song got tons of radio airtime and brings back a lot of memories
I agree 100% with the previous comments from Doug. My sisters and brothers all loved this song! You guys are the best! Thank you!
The Young Rascals: How Can I Be Sure. You will love it!

Just a super fun song!
I was a little dude and loved this song.
First time I heard this classic song in ages was at the start of an episode of Breaking Bad. Wonderful song and great use in the show!
This song always make me bah bah bah like a sheep
IMO their best song is Along Comes Mary. Love your reactions. Brightest blessings! ✌️❤️
I love you guys!
I could watch your reactions all day long. Love you❤❤
I do not know if you have done any songs by the Classics IV, but I think you would love the songs Spooky, Stormy , Traces and Sunny!
Well, the song is calling Windy a she….so there ya go! I was 10 when this came out in 1967 and it‘s still in my playlist today! Cheers
Loved this song 🎵 wholehearted love songs you could understand, unlike the crap on today.
Love your reactions. You should listen to Eva Cassidy "Over the Rainbow", Diana Ross "Home", Barbra Streisand "Stony End" Bobby Darin "Mack the Knife"
❤️
Man, I vaguely remember this from when I was little. My parents must have been in the car listening to it on the radio.
Windy…. Was a metaphor for window pane acid….
Love you Shawn and Mel!!! 💖💖🙌🙌
