In 1972, I was a young man: 23. This song, and the album from which it came, are still in my top five of all time, and I’ve had 74 years of music to listen to and enjoy! Thank you!

I'm right there with you, I'm the same age and I remember this song playing such a big part of my life at that time when I was in the Navy, this music from the 70s era means more to me now than ever before... take care.

I'm so thrilled that you, or anyone else can appreciate and still be moved by this music regardless of it being released in 72/73. This band has a phenomenal horns section and they STILL CAN DELIVER the goods!

This tune was recorded during a special time in music - Tower of Power, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and Chicago Transit Authority all had excellent horn sections - and Rick Steven's vocals were so powerful and soulful. You can tell that he means each and every word he is singing. No duplicity, no mendacity, no pretense: I'm not too young, YOU ARE THE ONE!

0:45 What you said at the end really struck a chord with me! Being close with that person you find so atractive physically and emotionally felt like you were in Paradise, and you'd hope and wish those moments would last for always! But those precious moments pass, and life continues with all its monotony, heartaches, all types of despair and agony, disappointments of all sorts among many other dreadful experiences! But at least you have those memories of being taken to heaven and paradise for a few brief moments!
One day we will live and experience those amazing moments and feelings forever! For now, let's enjoy life as much as we can until the next chapter! Wow, I got carried away, oh well, goodbye y'all!

Looks like a large group, I enjoyed the vocals and harmony's on this one. Also the horns. Reminded me in parts of Earth, Wind and Fire and of Heatwave, and nice for a slow dance!-Colin Ward

I always enjoy your reactions but this one is special. Tower of Power was from the Bay Area (East Bay) and was huge in the late 60's & early 70's. Rick Stevens was one of the great soul singers of that period until he went to prison and the band never was the same after that. Great memories...thank you once again. Please react to "So Very Hard To Go" by this group.

Saw them last February in Greenville SC. Still bringing it! "Soul Vaccination." "Soul with a Capital S." "What Is Hip." "So Very Hard to Go." "Diggin with James Brown." And my favorite is their live version of "There Is Only So Much Oil."

Id noticed you reacted to Tower of Power's lead singer Lenny Williams as a solo artist (Cause I Love You, 1975) You should check out TOP's other big hit "So Very Hard To Go" I would say its better than "You're still a Young Man". But far as TOP as a group, WOW!
Tower of Power's horn section were so well known they were used by other artists like Santana, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Patti Labelle and Otis Redding just to name a few. These guys should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame but they're not..what a shame.

One of my all-time favorite vocal performances. Rick Stevens was the singer who preceded Lenny Williams. Rick was a talented, yet troubled singer who promising career was cut short from going to prison for murder. Shame, because he had tons of potential as you can clearly hear in this track.

You can't go wrong with these guys and this song i guess you could call a TOP standard a song they always do at their shows. Background story for the song's title is when the band's leader was in love with this girl who was a couple of years older than him. She dumped him and said exactly these words "you're still a young man baby, don't waste your time".

Penned primarily by T of P trumpet man Mic Gillette; he got the idea for the song because he was dating a woman who was many years his senior. His family and friends were telling him over and over he was wasting his time with her.
GRRRRRR, Angela you get prettier every time I see your reacts!
