- Keen to make a good second first impression, Casper puts on his chef hat and offers to cook Kat (Christina Ricci) and Dr. Harvey (Bill Pullman) breakfast.
Casper (1995): Seeing is believing when everyone’s favorite friendly ghost stars in this charming, live-action adventure from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. “Ghost therapist” Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman) and his daughter, Kat (Christina Ricci), have been hired by Carrigan Crittenden (Cathy Moriarty) and her partner-in-slime, Dibs (Eric Idle), to get rid of the spirits at drafty, old Whipstaff Manor. Sure enough, the place is haunted by The Ghostly Trio - Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso - who don’t believe “fleshies” should come anywhere near their haunted domain. But Kat soon meets another, very different kind of spirit: Casper, a good-natured ghost who's just looking for a friend. Can they all learn to live with each other? Oh man I remembered it was sooo hard to get tickets to see this movie. Went to three theaters and keep saying sold out. Glad for the internet now on movie times and get tickets right away phew!!!

Christina Ricci at this stage was already beautiful and had an awareness of an adult.
I looked up about this movie and Casper fell in love with Kat when he first seen her and when he was asking her " Can I keep you?" means that if she can be there for him to rely on and she also fell in love with him as well.
One of my favorite films, growing up as a kid that I would watch over and over again.
At 2:18 I just loved how the music blended on both of their hands going through each other in a gentle way. Just beautiful.
Man I remembered seeing this in the big screen at 95 when I was 11 and I just loved it. I remembered loved Kat’s fashion that I looked up catalog for the fall season hits.
Oh yes the movie where I got my nickname to use KAT from 8th grade till in my late Twenties. Still have the nickname but not too much. Love that nickname.
And when I first seen it back in '95, I was in love with Kat. First time I felt butterflies was from this movie. 😊
I remembered seeing this in the movie theatre and I remembered this scene very well

I love how this movie tries to show the positives of being a ghost. Not only they can fly, but go through walls, go invisible, not feel cold, shapeshift, and eat whatever you want. I'm surprised we don't see more ghosts in this movie
The Ghostly Trio reminds me of frat guys who like to party a lot and play wicked pranks on people

Kind of saddening Christina Ricci doesn't particularly like her performance in this. I understand her wanting to move on to adult roles but she's amazing in this.
I was amazed how good they animated Casper in this movie, and how disapointed when they ruined the animation in the other movies! WHY????

It's called budget. This film was a high budget studio film with cutting-edge CG and VFX work. The sequels were all made for very little money in comparison.

It was a good time, when simple family films were enough to keep the spark alive. Today there are only a bunch of idiots scattered across Earth who complain about what is "Woke", who are never satisfied and who denigrate the work, who have practically destroyed the pleasure of fiction. In 1995, I wasn't born, only three years later, but that didn't stop me from appreciating that time of fiction.

You know I decided to rewatch this movie after probably a few years and from the way that the doc was acting at 2:32 and his first encounter with Casper I realized something. Apparently he was a scam artist, because clearly he never interacted with ghosts before so how was he providing therapy to ghosts before getting to whipstaff
He was just trying to find his wife.
@@chrispeare I can dig that,but while he was trying to find her he was getting paid for his claim of providing therapy to ghosts and like I pointed out he had apparently never seen or interacted with one before Casper. So charging money for services that he knows he's not performing, not to mention the getting to be interviewed on TV getting another person to hire him for his false service. Sounds like scamming to me. Also speaking of the TV spot makes you wonder where the he left with a smile bit came from
My question is what was he going to do if his wife was a ghost? Would he help her pass on and just drop the whole ghost therapy or would he become a ghost just to be with her
