I think there are many reasons why they wanted to end like this. Basically, they want the audience decides, and that they don't want to offend anyone. Let me tell you a interesting story about this scene making.... The director and co-staffs of the movie were worried about that how huge Mike is against Donny(ip-man) and Donny would end up get hurt if something happened wrong.... But what happened... Donny end up broke one of Mike's finger in the process... You will noticed it in the scene when Donny saves Mike's punches with his elbow... You will find Mike's right hand small finger a little bit awkward posing than the other finger...
This fight Ip Man (Donnie Yen) actually lost because he decided to try and kick Mike in the groin and so everyone knows that it is considered as a cheap shot and Mike went for the upper cut. Mike won by default. *My Opinion*
Final Buster Not really. Like one of Donnie’s lines in the first film, “The problem is not northern or southern style. The problem is you.” If you can’t apply what you know in a fight, of course you will lose. Kung Fu has it’s strengths and weaknesses, same as boxing. Every martial art has them. Since Donnie is more than capable of handling his own ass (Read where Donnie beat up 8 people), I think it would be a draw.

Let me tell you a interesting story about this scene making....
The director and co-staffs of the movie were worried about that how huge Mike is against Donny(ip-man) and Donny would end up get hurt if something happened wrong....
But what happened... Donny end up broke one of Mike's finger in the process...
You will noticed it in the scene when Donny saves Mike's punches with his elbow... You will find Mike's right hand small finger a little bit awkward posing than the other finger...
ok and so because he broke a finger you think he could beat it ahhaahha
This fight Ip Man (Donnie Yen) actually lost because he decided to try and kick Mike in the groin and so everyone knows that it is considered as a cheap shot and Mike went for the upper cut. Mike won by default. *My Opinion*

Final Buster Not really. Like one of Donnie’s lines in the first film, “The problem is not northern or southern style. The problem is you.” If you can’t apply what you know in a fight, of course you will lose. Kung Fu has it’s strengths and weaknesses, same as boxing. Every martial art has them. Since Donnie is more than capable of handling his own ass (Read where Donnie beat up 8 people), I think it would be a draw.
At Tyson's age, probably yes Donnie would strike him quick and in critical areas like the throat.

This shows the smarts of ip man. U see him go into a lower stance forcing mike Tyson to kick in order to effectively attack him. He knows boxers don’t kick so that lowered stance of his is a tactical move to put ip man at an advantageous position vs mikes brute strength and speed

During an interview Mike Tyson said that he wouldn’t last half a minute fighting properly against Donnie if it was in real life. And during the filming of the fight, Donnie's elbow block had broke one of Mike Tyson's fingers, which took quite a while to fully heal. In reality, the result would have been the same as the movies.
