  • Eighteen-year-old Joseph O'Brien rode St Nicholas Abbey to a driving win in the $2,727,000 Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) Nov. 5 at Churchill Downs for his father, trainer Aidan O'Brien.
Joseph O'Brien, at 18 years, 5 month, becomes the youngest jockey to win a Breeders' Cup race. Fernando Jara won the 2006 Classic with Invasor at the age of 18 years, 10 months.
"This is very special. Unbelievable," said his understated father. "It was a wonderful race. He is an amazing rider. It's been a great day. It's been a great day. Thank you very much."

This was really an incredible ride! I absolutely love how this was on fathers day, and how it kinda seems like a storybook ending, a son winning an extremely rich race for his father while making history. It just seems like the picture perfect scenario to me :)

Re-watching this brings a tear to my eye. SNA sustained a career ending injury during training on Tuesday. He was supposed to run in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes this Saturday at Ascot. I so would have liked to watch the "rubber ball" win another classic race. Let's hope the vets can save him so he'll be able to enjoy retirement at Coolmore Stud.

He was a good horse bless him but frankel left him in another county when they met at York. Frankel was from another planet that day as often was he. The thing is it is very difficult to equate dirt racers against turf. What's indisputable is the Americans are masters of dirt racing.

@Duke if you knew anything about horses you would not call St Nic a donkey over the loss to Windsor Castle. That came down to a poor ride, and a 10f trip that is less than ideal. St Nic is a top class G1 horse, and believe me, will win a few G1s this year, possibly even the Arc.

No unfortunately i missed it but ive not stopped hearing about it since it sounded pretty impressive but the amount of chances that horse has had and its only just began to shine now its about time it did something instead of keep getting beat at odds on prices, also the race itself seemed very weak in my book and in a bigger field with better horses i dont think he would stand a chance

if they wanted to preserve the turf i mean thats another story but they should be no problem if they want to train their horses on the moist turf those horses run mostly grass races make them sign a waver and let them go in i say

So weird calling an animal "Her" and "She" lol. "Something has gotten her a little bit bothered", and you look at "Her" and she's 7 feet tall and weighs half a tonne
