For me, the most impressive aspect of this movie was Spike Lee's dad's score. Bill Lee was a very underrated jazz musician. But as this musical score attests, he was a brilliant and creative composer.
Now Everybody is talking about "sex and the city" and how it was forward in speaking about women's sexual liberation but Spike Lee did it already ten years before "Sex and city" aired in speaking about how a woman owns her body.
My mom used to work at Ferrybank (Nola's apartment) I was able to go up there as a kid ... Spike's siblings went to my school and his sister (RIP) was a teacher there - She woulld sing Aretha's "RESPECT" while walking the kids to the Pierepont St. Playground ... Bill Lee (RIP) a true genius - all of his progeny are LEGENDS. MUCH LOVE

6 years ago I went on a quest to find my favorite bassist- Bill Lee. I flew from Detroit to NY, the subway to Fort Green Park where I ran into him as he exited his brownstone. We talked for hours. I listening to his rich family history and his life. The one memory that I treasure over all others and repeat constantly to those who “know”. I didn’t have his albums for him to sign, which was sort of a mistake; but what’s in my memory is invaluable. The other great loss outside of Spike transferring Bill Lee for Terrance B. is Spike not putting on wax Jo Barbershop We Cut Heads - dummy.
You are brave, what if he blanked you. A british jazz musician would have blanked you, but New York musicians are different. I love me terence blanchard, but they could have played some more bill lee compositions even though he was not scoring the film. Thanks for sharing, we should campaign for the lincon centre to have his tribute
@@JTRocks1 Thank you for sharing your affinity with me. Everytime I hear it again, I will always think there's someone who likes it as much as I do! I bought this on vinyl, and I play it often for my kids. I also am friends with someone who was a musical librarian for Bill before he passed away, so it's quite personal for me. Bill had similar family issues as I did, and he often told my friend, and my friend who worked for him would often relay them to me, and we just did what we can, even though in different age generations.
One of my favourite soundtracks by Bill Lee (along with another Bill Lee soundtrack, for Mo' Better Blues). And, a heartfelt RIP to Ronnie Dyson, vocalist on that Nola track, who died back in 1990, at the young age of 40.
I just saw this movie a few days ago, it was my first ever spike lee joint and I will never forget how great it is. So cool that his dad made the soundtrack
It’s really great movie. I seen it when I was 6 when I had no business watching. When I first saw it I thought it was a 70s movie but it turned out it wasn’t and I confessed to my father a few months ago I watched it when I was 6 and he wasn’t upset at all
One of the most perfect movie scores I've ever heard. (As is his score for "Do the Right Thing.") What a talent that man is. Thank you for sharing. this. I have it on LP but missed the CD release, so it's wonderful to hear it clean and without sonic blemish.
I was looking for this soundtrack for ages. In my twenties, I used to work for a small film theatre, when this film just came out. I was allowed to borrow the vinyl record that came with the original film. I put it on cassette, but over the course of the last years I lost it. This soundtrack was difficult to find, it's unfortunately not on Spotify, so you just gave me an incredible gift.
I have this on vinyl, CD and Cassette. There's some kind of magic about it that takes me to some other place whenever I listen to it. I get the same feeling in that one scene in the movie that's in color. Can't really articulate exactly what I mean, it's just a feeling I get.

Me too, bought in the eighties.
me, too
I just bought mine a few weeks ago
There's a girl that I once knew
Who often had a friend a friend or two
She gave them time love of wit and rhyme
Sublime
They would come from far away
And often gather there all day
To show their love
And see which one would stay
But to her it mattered not
For loyalty was not her lot
Her answer was for not for them
To know
There she goes on her marry way
Though she's only queen for a day
Boy and girl often take this world
So you better mind what you say
My advice to you my friend
Is try to find what it's about
And then you take into account your own
Don't you take some sugar in your mouth
That may be sweet to you
But bitter when you feel it later on
What is good for you may not be good for me
So different strokes
For different folks
Could be a real good rule
There she goes on her marry way
Though she's only queen for a day
Boy and girl often take this world
So you better mind what you say
This soundtrack tastefully travels through life's romantic emotions with surreal serenity and soul.

"A Thought" sounds particularly like the opening credits version of that same track.
