That Dorman part # 929-124 is the replacement leaf pack for the 4x4 trucks.
GM Parts used to stock 6 different leaf packs for the Colorado/Canyon. They only stock 2 now. One for the 4x4 trucks and the other for the 4x2 trucks.
Old U-bolts should NEVER be reused! They are stretched to yield torque values when factory installed. When you reuse them, you are stretching them again, with the high potential for failure.
Especially since you didnt bother to torque them, as well as the bushing bolts to specs. An air impact is the deadliest tool an amature mechanic can own.

Heavy Duty and harsh riding.
A constant load in the bed is required to soften the ride somewhat.
These springs are very stiff and will lift the rear of the truck enough that longer aftermarket shocks are manditory. It will have steep 'Rake" to the truck.
These springs will also require longer aftermarket U-bolts because the OEM U-bolts will be too short.
GM dosent make a longer U-bolt for the HD spring because it was never an option.
**This number is most likely what should have cross referenced to your original OEM GM springs that you originally had on your particular truck.

My 05 is less rusty on the frame, more rusty on the body maybe! I did heavy duty leaf springs and airbags in the rear recently, need do the fronts again as I just rolled 178k miles

I can't believe you did all that work and didn't replace the shackles
I just removed the shackle bushing from the frame. Difficult but now I know how to do the other side. Drill out most of the rubber bushing material. Press out the bolt. remove remaining rubber. You are left with the outer steel of the bushing rusted to the frame. sawzall two cuts to split outer metal into two pieces. Air hammer the two pieces out. The vibration from air hammer will loosen rust between outer bushing metal and frame. I used NO heat No penetrating oil.

You can also maneuver the strut out without having to remove upper ball joint

The actual Dorman site and Amazon is showing 929-124 is not compatible with extended cabs and I can’t find any info online for the life of me. You have and extended cab, Did you get any problems with the fitment? Appreciate it man
I just checked out the Dorman site. Their entire fitment chart only shows standard cab configurations -it's as if they don't even make a spring for extended or crew cabs (which of course doesn't make sense). Worked great for me as you can see in the video, I expect you'll be fine. Very easy to hold up and compare to your existing spring before you start the job if it makes you feel better. Have fun!
Why exactly did you replace the leaf springs? What symptoms were they giving you. I think mine need replaced as well.

Finally a repair I can relate to with the rust haha, dumb question, is there a bolt holding the leaves to the axle somehow? I plan on replacing the U bolts and such when I do my leaves and I don't want to miss anything.
Chron1cJag3r you can see at around 7:35 there's a little pin that's built into the spring that sits in an indent on the plate that's welded to the bottom of the axle. That keeps it from sliding around. Hope that helps!

When you replace the leaf springs is there a change you can mess up alignment. From what I understand an alignment can’t be done on this trucks.
you can see at around 7:35 there's a little pin that's built into the spring that sits in an indent on the plate that's welded to the bottom of the axle. As long as you fit the pin into the indent and tighten your u-bolts properly you're good to go!

I had an alignment done. The only thing they can adjust are the tie rods.

I see people talking about rust like they never see anything like that, I live in Long Island have a 2006 Colorado only 90,000 miles and rusty as F** but I don’t give a *** lol

They're all just mad about the tornadoes and hurricanes and earthquakes and forest fires that we don't have to deal with. I'm with you, if it passes inspection I'm happy. Shocks are Bilstein 24-186209

Is it possible to install the front struts wrong? I replaced mine 6 months ago and the driver side tire is hitting the wheel weld

Move south where there's no salt, keep trading up for newer trucks, fill a swimming pool with oil and park your truck in there...or just live with it. Every piece that falls off reduces weight, improves mpg right?

I live in PA. Save your used motor oil and paint it with a brush on your frame before every winter. It ain't bulletproof but it gives your trucks a fighting chance. Hell I know a guy that's sprays it on with a harbor freight paint sprayer
