Project Phoenix Launch Video - MIT Rocket Team

January 2023 we successfully launched and recovered both stages of Project Phoenix at FAR in the Mojave Desert. The upper stage, carrying our astronaut Tim (the mit mascot), reached 33,400 ft!! Both stages had successful deployment, and despite a parachute failure on the booster, both stages (and astronaut Tim) were recovered fully intact. This makes Phoenix the most successful two-stage launch in MIT Rocket Team history. We’re so so proud of this rocket and this team and beyond excited to start working on Project Medusa, with an estimated range of 180,000 ft!
