I haven't used this channel in years but I decided to post this comment because some of you misunderstand Żuławski's perspective on Adjani's suicide attempt. First of all, I used the subtitles from the DVD release of this document and tbh, now I see they are indeed poorly translated at times because it makes him sound as if he didn't see it as anything serious while it did in fact shock him. The entirety of the Polish phrase "A ja miałem zgryz (...)" can be translated as "I felt shocked and conflicted because I wasn't able to protect her, I was the one to blame". I don't agree with him in a lot of ways (f.e. his mockery of Adjani's plastic surgeries) but I can't deny I get where some of his opinions are coming from. I corrected the subtitles, so the translation is more accurate now.
as if i wasn't absolutely horrified by just watching the film, this interview + the actors's own testimonials of what went on behind the scenes is just brutal but the film is something that you can't look away from... it invites you in all its monstrosity. but then again any masterpiece, be it a brutal masterpiece shouldn't come at the expense of the sanity of the actors who are making it. I've read that it took isabelle months and years to psychologically heal from this role. she MADE this film what it is, he should show some respect!
It reminds me of the situation with Dancer in the Dark, with Lars von Trier creating an abusive environment, and then acting like it was necessary for some artistic ideal.
Isabel Adjani is an actress, and I don't find it to be unusual for an actress to be preoccupied with her physical appearance lol. Why does it matter how she was feeling about her image during the filming, because regardless she was *completely* uninhibited in her performance for him--NOT PREOCCUPIED BY ANYTHING ABOUT HER FACE OR Whatever. What unnecessary comments... I mean he's not even like being honest, he's talking trash, and begins speaking about how low her salary was, further developing her raw committment to this film in its risk and unimaginable artistic challenges, as if that's something to like reminisce on? Lol. I can't imagine she doesn't acknowledge this guy for Possession, because I mean why wouldn't she?? Was she ever saying like oh, We can't give this guy credit, or whatever. No i dont think so. lol
He's speaking of her as an FBI profiler speaking of a character they profiled. It's very interesting because it shows how he had to understand her mentality first in order to get her to play the part the way she did. It was a phenomenal performance. They both needed each other
I would argue that they 'both needed each other'. Isabelle has made it pretty clear, retrospectively, that she felt somewhat 'used and abused' by the experience. She refers to Zulawski as sadistic.
Mnostwo niekonsekwencji i chyba jakas potrzeba ponizania.

As unapologetic and fierce as he was in his movies. The more you dig into Zulawski's oeuvre the more you understand what a clear vision of cinema this man had. Adjani's exploits seem to me like the dramatic fodder actors like to bathe in to feel like what they're doing is more than just pretending to be some words on a page.
He said the very same thing about Romy. You will get the awards, I will be crucified. Curiously there was no such "prediction" when it came to the films he did with Marceau. No such prediction and no awards either hehe. I wonder why.

Why would seeing the movie make her want to commit suicide, that doesn't make any sense.. because she thought she wasn't like beautiful and attractive or whatever??
Not 15 awards but 3 awards for Adjani in "Possession" ! César Awards and Cannes and Fantasporto festivals. Zulawski 's exagerations ! He was a liar ( a little bit)
the way he's commenting on her physical appearance without acknowledging the impossible beauty standards that are shoved down women's throats (especially in the entertainment industry) makes me stare at my screen with 0 emotion. The plastic surgery industry goes hand in hand with the entertainment industry as the majority of the clientele are women with enough money for costly cosmetic procedures. I wish people would stop pretending they're doing it willingly, like things would be the same had the standards for female appearance been different to begin with. Older women are bashed for "losing" their beauty like it's a voluntary action, while men are praised for ageing like wine like it's an achievement. The pressure these women face every year after turning 30 would drive anyone to go under the knife with the promise of getting the same treatment as before. Isabelle Adjani is beautiful.
He comes across as extremely paternalistic and full of shit, talking about Adjani in these derogatory, insensitive terms. Guess he had to stick to the topic of her facelifts, because there was nothing to talk about his own career after 'Possession' - a series of pitiful flops with zero impact, rightfully ignored by both the critics and the audience, all to the end.

So many of you simply dont understand what hes saying because you dont speak Polish, JFC he wasnt mocking her suicide attempt, he wasnt mocking her, he was commenting on her suicide because he felt responsible and he was commenting on her usage of plastic surgery as he believes she thought too much of herself after the film was made. Dude SAM NEIL is in it😂reality check, no one knows who Isabelle Adjani is anymore
@@TheReelTuesdayChannelYou're awfully confident for someone so completely misguided. Possession is a cult classic because of Adjani, for the most part.
As an aside, Sam Neill is actually pretty awful in it.
@@AdAstra78 lmao she became demonically possessed in real life and they filmed it. Not so impressive, and why do you care what I think? She’s ugly and not even a good actress. She was pretty famous back them. No one knows who she is anymore 😂you’re old.

Moron.
He derides her “hysteria” as an inconvenience when it’s the very thing that made his film a success. There is something to be said about society’s contribution to the extreme capability of women to express hysteria and madness.
Agree! Him talking about Isabelle's obsession with getting plastic surgery to stay young is hilarious, as if he hasn't dated women who were old enough to be his daughters and granddaughters 🤢 He even said Isabelle wants to look "younger than her children" but he married Sophie Marceau and she is 3 years older than his first son
Yeah but what is a woman? Are you going to be able to define what a real woman is? Or are you ok with men replacing you? Non of you feminists get it, at all.
very similar to the monologue of a rejected man.

I don't know if 'Repose en paix' is supposed to imply she's dead (R.I.P), but she's still very much alive

I am glad Marceau dumped his ass . She made some good movies with him which gave her credibility as an actress and basta . This dude is gossipy and judgmental. Adjani was stunning in Posession . He pulled the same shit ( exposing his colleagues/ actors) with Romy Schneider ( another all time great ) as well . Thumbs down . Undignified and unprofessional behaviour.

holy shit this is some dope vedio thank you for posting this!! merici beaucoup!!
The quality of this video! Thanks
as if i wasn't absolutely horrified by just watching the film, this interview + the actors's own testimonials of what went on behind the scenes is just brutal but the film is something that you can't look away from... it invites you in all its monstrosity. but then again any masterpiece, be it a brutal masterpiece shouldn't come at the expense of the sanity of the actors who are making it. I've read that it took isabelle months and years to psychologically heal from this role. she MADE this film what it is, he should show some respect!
It reminds me of the situation with Dancer in the Dark, with Lars von Trier creating an abusive environment, and then acting like it was necessary for some artistic ideal.
3 minutes of zulawsky bitching about Adjani ( basically the movie)

Bruh
As unapologetic and fierce as he was in his movies. The more you dig into Zulawski's oeuvre the more you understand what a clear vision of cinema this man had. Adjani's exploits seem to me like the dramatic fodder actors like to bathe in to feel like what they're doing is more than just pretending to be some words on a page.
Oevre my ass.
@@offbeat65 nobody cares about your ass.
If actors pretend it’s a bad performance. For a role like this it’s not really pretending, it is closer to a sort of psychological possession.
She invented the movie.

He was a liar ( a little bit)
maybe he was so hurt or jealous for those 3, they felt like 15 to him.
I saw other video when he says she was perfect and always on time. Its a genious, but so unpolite and manhood speaking loud.... grotesque from him
the way he's commenting on her physical appearance without acknowledging the impossible beauty standards that are shoved down women's throats (especially in the entertainment industry) makes me stare at my screen with 0 emotion.
Where can I get the whole documentary? Thanks
Same with adjani. She was in nothing after possession and her career rightfully went down the toilet.

I get it but for outside world it sounds like cruelty
So many of you simply dont understand what hes saying because you dont speak Polish, JFC he wasnt mocking her suicide attempt, he wasnt mocking her, he was commenting on her suicide because he felt responsible and he was commenting on her usage of plastic surgery as he believes she thought too much of herself after the film was made.
