Back in the mid 90's when I was in HS, my best friend and I stayed up till midnight just to see the premiere of this song on MTV(When they played music) on a show called Headbangers Ball.
hell yeah me too- i saw this love and man in the box on headbangers ball in the 90's in high school then later that week i ran out to pick up pantera vulgar and alice in chains facelift \m/
Wait a . minute, they used to play music on music television? Why would they do such a thing, I thought music television meant a pawn shop. MTV was a bunch of losers living in a house with somebody walking around with a video camera.
Y'all just scratching the surface with Pantera Phil from my hometown New Orleans some other great songs are Mouth For War , Cemetery Gate's , Drag the Waters , The Great Southern Trendkill.
Love when Dime hits the harmonic near the end and gives it a little spirit finger action, and the shot of Phil with the camera behind his head rocking back and forth.
As a USMC Infantry veteran that's been through it a few times and knows all too well the weight of what chronic back pain and 6x spine surgeries for 15 years and without any pain meds and finally getting to the point where I want to suck start a .45, I honestly know where Phil was coming from and I believe that anyone who judges people who slip into the addiction Hell should STFU bc they really don't know wtf they're talking about....
Semper Fidelis, fellow 0311 here, the infantry is the elite. Being "broken" doesn't jive with 03xx, but there's more of it out there. Phil had horrible neck pain and refused to stop touring to fix it, leading to horrible addiction and the ultimate demise of this genre defining band. He worked hard to overcome it and his "Strength beyond strength" is clearly evident.
Appreciate your service and I'll be praying for you. This comment stuck out to me as i was inspecting my USMC kabar I just recently got as I saw your comment.
A bit late to this conversation, but as someone who also is in chronic pain every day, I can completely relate. And being 45 now, and have had this pain for 20+years, it's very frustrating when people look at you and say, how can you be in pain, you're young, like injuries, or illness/disease has an age limit....... I tell people just because someone looks fine on the outside doesn't mean they feel fine on the inside.....don't judge a book by its cover
Phil (the singer) was dealing with a lot of back pain, and he turned to opiates to allow him to continue going. He then fell deep into opioid addiction. The song Suicide Note (parts 1 and 2) further deal with this subject, and are also very personal songs. Definitely worth checking out.
I don't think Phil's onstage presence gets talked about enough. The dude was as athletic as any pro ball player. And doing that night after night wrecked his body. In their prime, nobody could come close to putting on the type of show Pantera did.
“I wonder if we'll smile In our coffins while Loved ones mourn the day Absence of our face Living, laughing, eyes awake Is this too much for them to take?” Super deep, and original delivery. And King Dime delivers on his solos as always
This was one of my favorite songs in high school. I rocked out to this back in the late nineties. The good ole days being a teenager. Now I’m a 42 yr old old person. Hahaha. Great reaction. I love you 2. BJ you have a beautiful lady and you are cool yourself.
Pantera one of those bands I'll never stop listening to my dad listened to them in late highschool and started playing in bands himself but don't do it no more and he got me hooked when I was a baby and now I'm turning 21 and been listening since I was one years old for 20 years I've been listening it started out as Beasty boys matalica zz top led Zeppelin van Helen misfits my other favorite band Korn nirvana disturbed guns n roses all different types of bands avenged sevenfold
This is one of the greatest metal bands...EVER! They always sold out stadiums & arenas. Their moshpits & fan base was the biggest! It was actually a movement. Wait until you hear "Mouth For War?! 😮 The baddest song they wrote!
Wow this is awesome you guys are listening and doing reactions to songs and bands like this. Pantera was way ahead of their time especially Dimebag Daryl. This CD and general brings back tons of memories from back in high school getting fucked wit my buddies and jamming.
I’ve loved this song for years.. loved this breakdown.. ❤️🔥 I’m not sure if it’s the meaning, but I know Phil (lead singer) had serious back problems for years.. not sure - but I’m Broken could be some of that struggle as well .. Great reaction
I had my ONE and ONLY 'crowd surfing' experience during this song, at the Wicomico Center in Maryland, Feb 1995 on the second Far Beyond Driven Tour... I was up for 5 seconds, then was suddenly dropped flat on my back; I got up and was like S&*T, I'M BROKEN!! I never since have body surfed ever again, guys like me are too big for it!
On point talking about the meaning of 'Broken', Phil was going through some major shit, you hit it, I don't think he expected to even be here today. He's in a much better place mentally now though, sucks he lost 2 of his friends in the band, never made things right with them and is walking his own path now.
I'm brand new just start listening today at about 10am its now 4pm and im'a keep listening for probably the time I crash you guys are really damn good at breaking down all the rock songs especially for listening for the 1st time you have my attention and respect you've actually helped me to understand more of songs I've listened to all my life you gotta true newbie much ❤
Automatic upvote for Pantera. Great song and reaction. Yall kick ass. Suicide notes part 1&2 may be their best example of how they can be so extreme in 2 different ways. Give it a listen if you dare.😈❤🤘
It was the lead singer, Phil. He was in severe pain and needed back surgery but the band was blowing up. They had a important tour coming up and canceling the tour and the 18 month recovery time from the surgery would have been a major detriment to the band. Instead of getting the surgery he started taking pain pills. Eventually the pills were not enough and he started using heroin.
Thank you Asia and BJ for respectfully discussing and breaking down the topic about addiction without judging. You have a warm understanding that most addicts need.❤🤘
Phil the vocalist apparently was suffering from back pain and got addicted to pain medication that led to illegal drug addiction, and this song is an expression of this.
Glad to see people waking up finally to how proper this is. Pantera is #1 of all time. Also try Machine Head selections over the years, Slayer Selections (try the Albums "God Hates us All" and "diabolus in Musica"), and Lamb of God are incredible.
i’m lovin yall man 😂 yall gonna be riding in the truck with me for a minute down here just outside the M, baby! pantera is my #1 day one… shedding skin is my #1 by them. yall be easy ❤ long live dime 🤘🏻
I wonder what your reactions would be to the Pantera song Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills. Sick and twisted doesn't even begin to scratch the surface on that song lol.
Phil Anselmo, front man, has the back problem. He's from N.O.L.A ! PANTERA are from my home state of TEXAS! PHIL is a remarkable man, still an Intense individual, and has recovered in all aspects! I am a big fan of Pantera! Love this video!
Wise beyond your years! After 6 spines surgeries and a neuro stimulator in my neck i hear you! Nobody can understand the pains because they havent experienced it. But since its internal people think you are full of it because they cant see it and havent been through it. Im starting to go through a divorce because of it.
I would recommend Cemetery Gates by Pantera. Great song, probably not as heavy but great all the same, and contains one of my favourite Dime bag solos.
They had many things going on and with there guitarist getting shot to death was a big factor. They have so many great songs. If you get a chance play (This Love) I think you’ll really love it when you do play it. Rock on as always.
The addiction was with the lead singer phil ansalmo was in pain from the head banging and hurt his back and got addicted to pain meds and had a hard time dealing with the pain and it started affecting the band with his bad moods but phil is still going today and rocking out with his band phil ansalmo and the illegals
These songs are composed with the spirit of duality.. they ALWAYS have the same message on the flip side (giving your life(death) up for the “bottom line”) #VulgarDisplayOfPower ⚡️⚡️👁
Phil Anselmo, badly hurt his back while touring. The band was taking off and touring nonstop so he didnt feel there was time to stop to heal as they were exploding in popularity and working. So he began doing small doses of heroin to able to play live and keep touring. Phil did beat it in the end. The interview with him about this is awesome.
Thank you guys for taking your time to react to this music, share your thoughts and opinions, can you please react to “cemetery gates” by pantera, the extended version
You nailed it about anyone being able to be 'broken' - but society judges you externally, materially, financially, and doesn't have much interest in what's going on internally. If anything needs to change, it's this, the volatility of society today is only making it worse. Nevermind that it's difficult to seek help too, especially for something like drug addiction.
I'm honestly amazed that nobody has recommended "this love" by Pantera, so I guess the duty falls on me.
@@Jericho363 this love isn't even one of my favorites but for some reason it seems to be one of the first songs that gets people really into Pantera
@@Jericho363 I like mouth for war and drag the waters more than this love. 10's.. Basically the entire great southern trendkill album
They always react to the wrong version the cut one
@@Jericho363 I agree 100%
One of the greatest for sure!
5 minutes alone is another great Pantera tune with a good back story!
Yes it is
My favorite
I don't know if these guys could handle that one..
5 min is about reverse racism. Straight up
Love this Band, "Hollow" is a wicked heart felt song of theirs.
I wish the solo was longer.. Damn I miss Dime!
Hollow is amazing 💛

Same
So how are you my generation😊
Headbanger's Ball, the only thing they ever got right after it stopped being a music channel hell yeah
Wait a . minute, they used to play music on music television? Why would they do such a thing, I thought music television meant a pawn shop. MTV was a bunch of losers living in a house with somebody walking around with a video camera.
I guess now you need “Cemetery Gates” so you can here Phil’s singing voice
I hope they dont do that song.
They already reacted to cemetary gates
Hollow
@@wallyk9188 damn I’ll go look
100%
The absolute best metal band of all time great reaction guys! You guys are very very enlightened. You're good people it's clear
Getcha pull RIP Dime RIP Big Vin....
Y'all just scratching the surface with Pantera Phil from my hometown New Orleans some other great songs are Mouth For War , Cemetery Gate's , Drag the Waters , The Great Southern Trendkill.
I met the band at a club called zeppelins down that way back in like 95 hell yea good shit
All Pantera tracks are amazing ;)
Message in blood is one of their better songs as well
Drag the waters...yaaassss
Pantera are the masters of putting the groove into metal. I don’t care if you HATE heavy music they will make your head bounce.
Song "slaughtered" one of the heavier tunes by Pantera but still got that groove that made them special.
And "Use My Third Arm".
Love when Dime hits the harmonic near the end and gives it a little spirit finger action, and the shot of Phil with the camera behind his head rocking back and forth.
Phil was going through chronic back pain and had a major tour coming up
I love how it takes no time at all and this shit got em over here mean muggin and stank facin ❤

“I wonder if we'll smile

Vinnie and Rex hold this beat DOWN on this track, and so many people just overlook it.
Rex is mad underrated.
Glad you are truly taking the time to listen to the lyrics. Your perspective is spot on. Great job you two❤

The baddest song they wrote!
Yes, this is one of my favorites. Definitely Cemetery Gates soon, it will blow your mind🤯🔥
The singer Phil Anselmo had a serious back pain that lead to an addiction of painkillers
By demons be driven. One of the nastiest songs they ever made. HANDS DOWN!!!!!
Phil is from New Orleans but the rest are good strong Texas boys. Southern metal at its finest. RIP Dime and Vin!
Just an old banger "The Art Of Shredding" LIVE 1990
I love pantera, was my favourite Band when i was teenager!! Good Job guys!!!
I've been a pantera fan from the start. I like that you 2 are getting in touch with all types of music. Keep it up. Respect from New Zealand

Reaction to Pantera-The Sleep. The best guitar solo ever!!
Phil Anselmo (The lead singer) had severe back pain but they couldn't stop because they were on tour, so there was NO stopping the 'Pantera' machine
Love the song, been broken along time now.

Their energy is crazy! Tx ABJ!
i just realized you've never reacted to skid row they are a hidden gem of great music from a hair band that truly rocked
When that piece of crap killed dime it definitely broke a little part of me and when vinny died it was obvious his brothers death broke him too.
I wonder what your reactions would be to the Pantera song Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills. Sick and twisted doesn't even begin to scratch the surface on that song lol.
Its not just physical pain . Thats true too . But it goes deeper . Listen to their song 25 Years . No video . Just listen .

I will listen to this song anytime. I have "I'm Broken" tattooed on my chest. It has several meanings, I got the tattoo after a head injury.
Your words truly meant alot. Thank you 🖤
Phil’s voice could punch through a blood or cripstas face and leave them broken beyond repair
Pantera - "This Love", and "Cemetery Gates"
This is Pantera at its peak!
It's funny seeing other Black folks listening to metal now, I was an oddity back in the day being one of the only Black people at metal shows.
Black Tooth Grin. RIP Dime. Big Vinny. One love Rex. And Phil.
BJ is feeling the guitars this time. Gotta do cemetary gates
