the damage to the strainer mesh is part of the problem, always use a undamaged mesh or materials will by pass the strainer.

If your ac water pump is functional why not use it instead of using bucket pump?

Wow $400 bucket with a pump and hoses? Naww.... I'll use home depot bucket and there are plenty of $20 pumps out there.
