This makes so much sense, the Scotch you like is a blended grain whisky that doesn't include any single malts blended into it! I've only had Compass Box budget blends so far but the blended malts are their most popular. Hedonism is $100 but it's good to know that it could be up a bourbon drinker's alley!
Hey TJ, I'm a big scotch and bourbon guy, seems to me from what I've seen so far you might wanna look into bourbon cask scotches rather than sherry casks, also I'd stay away from Islay scotch as it's often what puts people off, however if you really like the fruity and caranelly notes it'd be worth looking into some Speyside malts. I'm a bourbon guy and a single malt Scotch guy. I didn't like Scotch whiskey until a Scotsman taught me how to drink it. He taught me that the Scottish think of Scotch as concentrate and add a small amount of water (teaspoon) to open them up. I've liked them ever since. Give it a try it might change your mind.
Try balvenie double wood. Speyside tends to vanilla, fruity(apple pear etc) sherry and bourbon barrel oak is common. Highland tends to floral spice and can range from cereal to rich fruitcake flavours. Smoke is common especially west but way lighter than the island peaty malts. Can be Like drinking an ashtray. All in all, bourbon lovers should probably start with speyside.
I think my favourite scotch is Balentine's. Not very expensive and blended so mostly overlooked. But I do have a bottle of Monkey Shoulder looking at me right now... which I am about to open to see what the fuss is about. Also try Drambuie. It's an 80 proof scotch liqueur which is blended with honey, herbs and spices (kind of tastes like Jager but sweeter).

Learning is its own intoxicant, after all.
All of the compass box blends are great examples of what they're trying to do. Even if the specific juice isn't tonyour taste, you can still tell the quality.
I absolutely love compass box products nut this is one of theirs that I would very much dislike because I significantly prefer Scotch over bourbon. Peat Monster is my favorite of theirs and I would love to see you drink it just for the reaction lmao
@@Lincolnzz Ardbeg is definitely my favorite! I have pretty much the entire lineup except for some of the committee releases that are just impossible to find. You're right though peat monster is fairly mild but it's got a little bit of that Laphroaig poking through haha.
It's funny how different people's tastes can be. I don't care much for bourbon, but I love single-malt whiskey (Scottish, Japanese, or other). Where we meet in the middle is that we both enjoy rye whiskey.

Yeah it’s kind of hard to get away from the malt in Scotch Whiskey, it’s kinda in the name, Single Malt. You’d probably be better staying with the blended Scotches, as even the Speyside single malts are going to have some component of malt within their overall flavour makeup.
Here's what i find about scotch, anything under 15 years old if paint thinner. But after that it takes on this buttery smoothness that changes everything about it
Im Scotch guy and i have more than 100 Scotches. Try Glencadam 15- single malt, taste like the old ways, --its delicate, fruity, floral, softly agressive, pear, red apple, mild banana, lemon oil, little green ginger, unpeated--. no color aded non chill filtered.
Try Highland Park - wonderful distillery on the island of Orkney. I was bourbon and Irish whiskey until I had Highland Park. Now I’m 50/50 scotch and bourbon and won’t even touch non-bourbon whiskeys 😂
I don’t like Scotch either. However, Bruichladdich- The classic laddie is a favorite. It’s an unpeated Islay single malt at 100 proof and it’s got some heat to it so I like it on ice. The runner up is Monkey Shoulder which is a blend and doesn’t break the bank, but its young and malty.
The only scotch I’ll tolerate is Johnny walker Green label. For some reason, it is SO addicting. We went through my husband’s birthday bottle way faster than I would’ve liked… it’s not really the taste, but rather something about the essence of it that just brings me back for more. I happen to enjoy scotches. They could be a lot higher ABV. But unless they taste like a charcoal briquette which I’ve had a few of those. But for the most part single Malts are wet good. I’ll even do a blend once in a while.
Will try one day. I'm not much of a scotch guy either. To be honest, I'm not much of a drinker. I like good absinthe, regular sweet red whine, (usually rodeo red by a local winery) and some old Milwaukee red at parties. But you've got me curious on getting more into the fun side of whiskeys. 🍻

You would probably be better off picking up an American single malt instead of Scotch.
