As an old saying goes, nothing is fool-proof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Having been an employee at Kings Island for many years these stories were still well in circulation when I was there during most of the early and mid-1990s. The wild animal habitat Safari was only vaguely known to employees by then but was still referenced occasionally. As an employee there however I heard a slightly different variation on the Eiffel Tower incident.
One thing that was not addressed in the video is that the Eiffel Tower actually has three viewing platforms. The lower one which is accessible by stairs only and I believe is now closed to the public and then the two upper viewing platforms located at the top of the tower. Both platforms were located one right over the top of the other and both are only accessible to the public via elevator. One elevator serves the lower upper platform and the other serves the upper upper platform.
The way the story was related to me by a park policeman told along side a Security Supervisor was that at the time the door leading from the public viewing platform to the inner maintenance areas of the top of the tower were kept locked by a traditional door knob style key lock with a spring latch. In other words, a normal locking door knob. Apparently he was able to bypass this latch somehow with what they assumed was by using the traditional credit card/driver's license style shim method.
After that the story is pretty much the same as told here with the exception that I had been given the impression that his body had remained entangled in the cables for much longer at the very top of the hoistway and that initially park guests had dismissed the blood believing it to be hydraulic fluid.
To this day the doors on both upper level viewing platforms do not have knobs at all but are instead kept secured with deadbolt style locks.
Are you perhaps able to corroborate that there were rumors about folks being able to climb atop the tower’s elevator for better views? I’m interested to know if that’s what inspired the guy who fell
@@Vicer_Exciser Maybe if you were to ride on top of the cars up and down although it seems very likely since the shafts are open you would have been easily spotted by someone on the ground. Or someone in the other elevator car as it passed. They have windows all the way around. Also there is an air conditioning unit mounted on the roof of each car so between the cables and the AC unit there really isn't a lot of spare space on the roof of the elevator car.
More to your central question however when the elevators get to the top of the tower they simply go into a three-story windowless box.
Again there are two decks at the top (around the 350 ft level) of the tower. With the right elevator serving one of the two top decks and the adjoining elevator serving the other one. The best view is from the top of the two upper decks as there is no roof like there is on the lower of the two decks. (The floor of the top deck being the roof of the lower deck).
The upper portion of the steel box contains the elevator equipment motors and pulleys and so forth. It is also windowless. You can very easily see from outside of the tower that there are no windows in the upper elevator structure. That being said I really can't tell you why some would would venture out into the elevator area. And I say that because you can't really call it a shaft as a shaft is enclosed. The only enclosed part of this structure is at the ground level and at the very top.
@@Vicer_Exciser
How in hell would he know? He didn't talk to them nor know if high on drugs, drunk or suicidal

Oh. I'm frying from the FL sun.
I'm from Cincinnati and I had season passes for many years. I'm 51, spent years there almost every summer day. Just depended
But I do recall hearing about it many times folks climbing the cables and it was quite common. I took the stairs a number of times to first level, but I refused to take the elevator all the way up due to partially hearing how common the climbs were and I didn't want to be on it
Another interesting fact about John and the Eiffel Tower incident. He's referred to as Tower Johnny by park staff and his ghost has said to have been seen by multiple people late at night after all the guests have left
Worked the tower as staff in 2017. Can confirm. One day when I was on the top tower platform, as the tower needs three people to operate with one at the top, one at the bottom, and one running the elevator, I saw the leg of someone walking around a corner. Only the bottom part of blue jeans with white socks and shoes. Only a moment later did I realize I was the only one at the top of the tower. I didn’t know about Tower Johnny at that time but learned about him after talking to co-workers.

Anytime somebody climbs over a security fence, it doesn’t end well...
When I was a kid living on an Air Force base, a kid climbed over the security fence around a many thousands of volts transformer outside of a hanger. He was fried beyond recondition, my father related to my brother and I. From what I gather, every drop of moisture in the kid's body was evaporated away--he didn't burn so much as was dehydrated.
My dad said many responders and area workers became ill from the mixture of the smells of burning flesh with the ozone from electrical arcing. _"Nothing like it, ever."_
To this day I instinctually give a wide berth to transformers and electrical installations. Not phobia like, but, because of this incident, an instilled caution.

Now I'm reminded of Batman the Ride....
I can't remember where, but I've heard before the hardest thing to design for is human factors. If someone wants to find a way, they will.
Pretty much. I'd say a solid 3/4 of safety design standards are because someone got killed or injured. You can try to think of how someone will beat the system, but you can never account for everything.
I first heard about human factors while serving on a jury. They called a “human factors engineer” as an expert witness. It was fascinating

So you're saying just because you choose to drink means you deserve whatever death you may receive after you've consumed alcohol? That's ridiculous. If that's the case, you could say anyone that's ever been involved in a car crash deserved it because they chose to simply get into a vehicle and drive.

I worked on The Beast crew back in the early 1990s. The cables that were removed from the elevator after the incident, were piled in an area by The Beast track between the bottom of the first drop and ravine drop.
Every time I walked by that area, I got the chills.
Fun Fact: There was a worker in the elevator when the guys body fell on top the elevator. That person was in therapy for a really long time.
Very fun fact indeed
I don't know if our definitions of "Fun" have much of a venn-diagram crossover...
An understandable reason to be in therapy
When I worked there in 2010, they called them the Tower Johnny Cables and they were stored in the Beast's Brake Shed
Are you the one that was in the elevator, by chance? Asking for a friend.....
Peeing on a lion's territory is a really bad idea. They're territorial. Any male lion would see that as a challenge.
And YOUR OBSERVATION is why experience, not age, or at least a true understanding of lion behavior which takes a sit or two essential for the job.
When lions see primates peeing, that's a lunch opportunity, not a territorial challenge.
@@KrikitKaos it is both
Lion: lives only where humans allow it to. Gets fed similarly.

I think It's the Disneyland effect. As in "nobody dies at Disneyland!" People are having fun and the festive setting of an amusement park makes people careless because they can't imagine dying in such a nice place.
Isn't the "nobody dies as Disneyland" theory because people aren't allowed to be pronounced dead until they're outside the park limits?
@@MissLaBoeuf That's largely an urban legend and not what I was talking about. I was more referring to how a festive setting makes people let their guard down.
@@MissLaBoeuf not because of any policy of disney themselves, just because in order for anyone to be declared dead they have to take you to a hospital and let a doctor look at you - paramedics and first responders can declare you non responsive, but they still bring you to a hospital to go through the more extensive checklist... even if they have to scrape you off the floor and bring you in a bucket
@@MissLaBoeuf Basically. Its also not true. There have been people pronounced dead at Disney Land/world, but they have to be decapitated or something. "Injuries incompatible with life" are going to be very clear.
This effect also leads people to neglect their health (mental and physical) before going on vacation. They believe they've spent money and once they're there, they become overwhelmed. Health professionals in vacation hot spots find an uptick in people having breaks who were on vacation and never realized it because they had been so busy planning or just so excited for the trip. A friend of mine used to work in a ward they called the "Mickey Madness" ward. It was very sad...

How did you get into the safety field? Any tips for someone that wants to get into it themselves?
In a large-scale amusement park that's been around forever, deaths are bound to happen. Something breaks, people make mistakes, some idiot does something they're not supposed to. Amusement parks are normally safe, but even even one variable is out of place people's lives are in danger.
@@damienthonk1506 I imagine the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s had higher amounts of deaths than nowadays? It seems there was less regulation back then and like the airline industry they were learning that not all accidents can be thought of beforehand and future changes had to be made.

I really don't think that the Kings Island site was ever remotely big enough to warrant a 'Safari Park' area with lions and antelope....
It was located where flight of fear and Orion is today and the old dinosaurs alive exhibit in the woods. That’s a pretty big chunk of land
Let alone the climate... Sure, Ohio is the same as sub-Saharan Africa. These lions and elephants should enjoy the freezing winter temperatures, right?
@@jmvsic well, it was a zoo. You do realize that zoos have indoor habitats for the animals during the winter, right?
For those wondering, here in the savannah, males can keep prides with territories around 100 square KM (62 square miles). So yes, I can imagine his wasn’t big enough at all. But plenty parks keep them in much smaller enclosures worldwide, sadly. If they’re in small areas the pride doesn’t really exhibit natural behavior and can be highly unpredictable
One lesson to remember is that if a lion charges you, stand your ground. Most charges are mock-charges. If you run you’re only playing the prey-game and will be killed
I feel that NO "amusement" park should be allowed to have animals, exotic or otherwise. They belong in the wild,or, if necessary, in well-scrutinized zoos. Animals first, gol-darn it!
Every time I hear about people treating wild animals like pets or friends, I fear the worst.
Usually does not end well.

The safari momraul can be found today at an amazing grocery store in Hamilton, Ohio called Jungle Jim's.
I was waiting for this and I'm not disappointed 😊 I expected more stories of careless Park employers after part 1 and was surprised where you took us from there. You, sir, are a great story teller and always manage to put in a positive message in the conclusion there and I appreciate that 😊✌️
I need more than one of these a week!
Well at least he's not "history buffs" and gives us more than 1 maybe 2 a year lol
Same! I need them longer too!
Only so many detailed & recorded events like this that one could produce for content. I’m betting this bruv creates a back catalog with the simplicity behind what he does. Just a matter of putting all the info together. Then has content to drop whenever.
Yes more
Yes it would be great to have these more often, but it takes a lot of time and research to produce.
I've been going to King's Island for about 20 years now, and I had only ever heard of the incidents on the Beast/Son of the Beast rides. Both part 1 and part 2 taught me something new, thanks for the vid!!
I’m glad they didn’t fire the lions
The lions were cleared of all wrongdoing on account of being lions.
They were promoted to piss patrol!
Always stoked to see videos on places I've been in, around my hometown, in my feed.
Glad you made it out alive
Hubba Hubba
Me too!
How cool! Lets all master bait together
Bit morbid lol
Me: wait? There’s more? I had heard of the other two incidents before because I don’t live that far away from the park, but didn’t know about this stuff.
What was the first one about? Don't want to leave the vid half way!
@@user-jt1jv8vl9r Electrified fountain, and an intoxicated woman falling roughly 66 feet to to ground off a ride
Episode 1 from last week.. A lot more interesting than this one.
@@thevalorousdong7675 And both at the same time
What's the point of prefacing your own comment with "Me:"?
I remember in the early 70’s the Brady Bunch and the Partridge Family both had special episodes filmed at Kings Island. Small wonder the park became an instant hit.
I remember the Brady Bunch episodes there. In one of the kid's biographies (I think Barry Williams) he talks about how the camera crew had sloppily attached a camera to the front of the roller-coaster. I believe Robert Reed thought it was dangerous and insisted they run the coaster empty to test it. Sure enough it came off and would have flown straight into the kids' faces that would have been sitting in front.
I, along with other graduating seniors from my school were at the park on May 13, 1983. The park kept the incident at the Eiffel Tower very quiet for that evening. We didn’t even know anything tragic had happened until we were back home. May the young man Rest In Peace.
They don't call counterweights _"widow makers"_ for nothing. It's like a guillotine coming down but it weighs several thousand pounds.
@Nik Kingman maybe not at McDonald's.
@Nik Kingman We call tree limbs widow makers in Australia. Obviously not that relevant but I could see people in the elevator industry at least using the term
@@pantherplatform At McDonald's they call the food widow makers!
Yeah, when I think “widow maker”, I think of a downed tree that is caught in another tree. I come from an area settled by loggers.
Widow Maker means the same up here. Not sure what it means in a p.c. household tho with two dad's who work at the same McDonald's.
Congrats on THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND subs my dude! It's been so cool to watch this channel blow up.
This channel covers the most interesting shit and does it in a really professional manner. So happy I stumbled on it
"The Eiffel Tower was a site of another incident on Friday the 13th of May-"
oh, ok.
I was at Kings Island that night in May 83. Saw a lot of people looking at the tower for some reason but didn't know why. Didn't learn of the death until the next day.
I have been going to King's Dominion in Doswell, VA my entire life and never realized it had a sister park! When I was younger we always set the Eiffel Tower as our meeting point if we all somehow got separated.
Same. Wonder if there are Kings Dominion stories we don't know about? There's the Shockwave incident.
@@bshaun What was The Shockwave Incident?
@@bshaun Someone jumped from the top of the Eiffel Tower at Kings Dominion in 1986.
King's Dominion (2nd park) is like a miniature version of King's Island (1st park).
There’s a third sister park called Carowinds in Charlotte, NC. All owned by the same company called Cedar Fair.
My favorite narrator. Could do audio books starting with Grimms Fairy Tales.
I was there on Grad night. I remember standing at the bottom of the tower after this happened. There was a radio station there(Q102) and I even remember the songs that were playing. Most people didn’t realize what had happened. The week after it was eerie to see the elevator stuck in its place partially up the tower and when it reopened again we swore went to the top and came down where we could still see the stains of blood that seems couldn’t be removed. Weird trying to remember these things so many years later. Well done on this video
My friends and I were at the park that day in May 1983 for our Senior Class trip! We had a blast that night and there was definitely some crazy crap happening. We stayed overnight at the campground and went into the park again the next day when we found out the Eiffel Tower was closed. Then we heard that, “some guy was decapitated on the elevator”, from a couple of girls. Gave me the chills and it was definitely hard to enjoy myself that next day.
I remember seeing a Lion in a cage a long time ago. I was less than five feet away from the cage. The Lion was asleep and it still was a magnificent and beautiful animal. The keeper explained that Lions do not kill a person right away. Lions slap victims around with their paws with 400-500 pounds of force before they kill. I can imagine how horrifying it would be to be confronted with a Lion in their habitat. The speed and power of these creatures are not like a Cheetah’s, but it is just as frightening.
The rule to not tease or provoke the animals should have been posted. But the animals, especially Lions, state it clearly.
I remember Grad Night. My class went to Disney World in 1984. The park was set aside for us to enjoy parties rides and concerts. I don’t think any alcohol was served anywhere, but I wouldn’t doubt that some was probably smuggled in.
It was very unfortunate for the young man who died in the tower. I guess he was drunk as he was climbing up on top of the elevator.
Like a domestic cat does
Ya thank he was drunk? Everybody wants to jump on moving elevators, don't you??
Playfully tugging on their tails?!? Good Lord.
I’m 20 right now. I can’t imagine working with lions by myself.
If you came up in a family that trained lions, or had a sanctuary with teaching faculty maybe you could handle responsibly those beasts at age 20 because you would know never to mark their limited home turf with your own scented urine. This dweeb was very slow to catch on, or ending his life due to fatal dweebness . RIP
I like that you’re covering this. I grew up in Cincinnati and had season passes to Kings Island every year. Heard a lot of stories from the people that worked there.
I love Kings Island! My favorite ride is The Beast -- a wooden rollercoaster that is both peaceful at times and yet wild and rough. Never knew about these accidents, very sorry about the loss of life.
Your voice and your perfectly chosen background music have become the soundtrack to my mornings while I get ready for work and school. The effort you put into these is commendable! Thank you.
Absolutely loved this, and love your channel!
My Grandfather was a mine engineer, and he missed the Markham Colliery Disaster in 1973 by a shift. I wondered if you'd consider covering it in a video of yours. It was national news back in the day, and was a huge rescue mission. I've researched it, and my Granddad told me stories, but I'd love to see your take on it ☺️
I was born, raised, and still live in Toledo, Ohio and we went to Cedar Point & King's Island every single summer. I always (& still do) like King's Island better out of the 2 parks. I just love the Cincinnati area too. I remember the safari monorail!! That was during my young childhood. I remember being sad finding out the safari monorail was no more. We never knew about the death though. I completely forgot about it until I started watching this video! Good memories.
The Eiffel Tower is so scary, but I still go on it everytime we go. The floor on the high observation deck is metal with spaces between that you can see all the way down and shake when you walk. I always hold onto the bars you have to look through as soon as I get off the elevator. Lol.
I knew about the johnny incident. They call power outages Johnny's to this day.
“Beast is 2-9 Johnny Tower.”
What's the connection?
King's Island was my favorite part of every summer as a kid. The 4th of July was always the best day to go. People were doing other things besides amusement parks and we'd get to ride the Beast and the Vortex 3 or 4 times in a row. No lines anywhere.
That’s very untrue nowadays. It is CROWDED on Fourth of July and the weekend near it. Do not go then unless you enjoy waiting in line all day for only a few attractions. Even the bathrooms are ridiculously crowded.
@@amethyst5512 The best days to go are weak days when it's extremely hot, no one will be on the dry side of the park everyone will be in the water park
@@amethyst5512 That's too bad. In the 80s and 90s it was so dead on the 4th you really got your money's worth not waiting in lines. My first coaster ride ever was the old Demon Drop.
Seems to me he was an emotional drunk wreck, made a poor decision and paid his life for it
You aren't allowed on the lower observatory deck anymore bc of Tower Johnny. They also say he haunts the park . May he rest in peace.
Yes! I've been waiting for the part 2! Thanks fascinating horror!
Yeah pull the tails of lions, what can go wrong. Some people seem to be to stupid to survive.
They are. That’s why we live in a world of warning labels telling people not to drink bleach, lighters are flammable and coffee is hot.
And have The Darwin Awards.
It's so cool to see FH cover a theme park that I visited so many times during my childhood. I can't believe I never heard about all these crazy things that happened there.
Threw us for a loop, where gross negligence wasn't the culprit. Very nice.
Love this sooo much, been going to Kings Island for years and am so glad to see it on the channel.
I haven't been to Kings Island in a few years. I do love this park, and in my opinion, has the best wooden roller coaster I've ever rode on, The Beast. If you are ever there I highly suggest riding it. I didn't know about these two incidents. There is a cemetery within the park grounds too with some ghostly tales surrounding it.. Great video as always.
This is by far one of my favorite channels! Amazing story telling with bone chilling music!
Stop comme ting on yojr own stuff
I attended grad nights 84 and 85. We heard about the elevator in the eiffel tower incident but most of us thought it was an urban myth. I lived over 100 miles from Kings Island so the groups that I was with hadn't heard anything on the news. How many 17-18 year olds sit and watch the evening news anyway. I was amazed when you revealed that it was true. Damn do I have some old friends that are going to be shocked.
Go to Knoebel's Park in Elysburg PA; in operation since the 1920s; only one fatality that was the fault of the victim for ignoring safety signs
Another heartbreaking tale done with such reverence~ Thank you sir for treating each story with such care and dignity ❣
I grew up in Kings Mills (where kings island is located) went to kings Highschool and didn’t know about any of this. Great stuff, thank you for presenting my towns history.
i’ve noticed that every time i wake up to a new upload of yours, my day is great
so i’m always looking forward to your uploads 🖤

Lions: "-and I took that personally"
Kind of funny if you imagine a lion being interrogated by the police
Literally.
Was looking for this comment. I also would've accepted "So you have chosen death.."
I've been waiting patiently for this one!!! ❤
I literally started vibrating with excitement when the notification for this video finally appeared on my phone, I always look forward for new videos from Fascinating Horror.
I get so excited when a new video from this channel pops up! So good
