I gotta hand it to you guys, these four horsemen trailers were probably the coolest bit of promotion you guys have done. "I am the Scourge of God" sends shivers down my spine.
White horse was the Western And Eastern Roman Empire, Red Horse was the Sassinid Empire, Black Horse are the Visigoths and Ostrogoths and next up the Pale Horse is gonna be the MiGHTY HUNS!!!

I really like the way that they've chosen to reveal the major factions, setting up their leaders like the four horsemen of the apocalypse and all.

Well, you know, adult males poke each other with their phallic symbols, making weird noises, sweat and blood everywhere... :] Everything is a "mild sexual theme", if someone is idiot enough (to sue).
Generally something to do with Agents or traits. That would be my guess, sort of like the "Mistress" trait in Empire and Napoleon.
I dont use the english Version but since ist all translated from the english one my Point is still valid.
In rome 2 when the barbarians like you in diplomacy they can say something like...

It took me a while but The Black Horse trailer strongly alludes to Alaric of the Visigoths, who crossed the Danube and sought alliance with the Eastern Romans only to be exploited and enslaved by corrupt authorities, eventually leading to the battle of Adrianople and their excursions into Italy and Spain.
The other migratory factions might share the same trailer but this one is definitely about the Visigoths.
For some reason I never saw Alaric's story as significant until recently. Truthfully his tale is one of constant struggle. He and Flavius Stilicho appear to be 2 sides of the same coin.
Yess, you can see what I think are the Ostrogoths (or generic goth tribes) "enslaved"/subjugated by the Huns in 0:58 (Germanic tribes were a majority in Hunnic armies). They stand beside Roman walls in 2:10 seeking shelter from the storm, but we know how the Roman treated them; the "Black Horse" is Famine's horse, it could be an allusion as how the Romans endangered the Visigoths and their families
Even if for some reason you dont like Total war, you still have to admit that this trailer was awesome.

Its the other way around: The statue of Talos in Skyrim is nothing but a copy of the germanic god Odin/Wodan/Wotan (and his raves Hugin and Munin).

warscape is only graphical engine (and maybe kill animations tho i'm not sure) stats and formations etc. are different engines entirely and are not "limited" by warscape.

***** The movement and fighting were perfect? Hmmmm. Is that why in Medieval 2 and Rome 1 "poking" sword animations that completely missed their target would cause people to keel over and die (this happens in rome 2 as well) and when massive cavalry charges slammed into infantry formations, men would get thrown in a straight line vertically, up into the air? Yeah, getting sent flying in a perfectly vertical line upwards after getting impaled by a lance moving horizontally, that makes perfect sense...Or in Rome 1, how every infantry unit in the game could run at the equivalent of 25 miles per hour in full armor? Seriously, have you seen how fast units move in that game? Its ridiculous, they look like Speedy Gonzalez. I LOVED Rome 1 and Medieval 2, but people who bash on the newer TW games always seem to forget that every engine CA has ever used has limitations and problems. In a game this big, its bound to happen. Rome 2's engine is FAAAAAR from perfect, but so were M2 and R1's.

Just a shame the engine cannot support sophisticated unit collision and the game will still have those stupid 1v1 kill animations that don't even work properly and the units just slide around and feel like they have no mass and just feel plastic.
The engine can't do it properly do you guys even look at the units when they're fighting?
A Total War Player Yeah, but it looks terrible compared to the originals. When units clash, they halt instantly, all in perfect syncronization. No one ever dies from the clashes, because the only way soldiers can interact with each other are with the annoying kill animations or the strange ´´pokes´´ that they throw around now and than, from which the soldiers throw themselves to the ground after getting hit. I suppose they didn´t have the time to make new animations, so they just used the ones from soldiers getting hit by projectiles... And like he said, units have no mass, no life to them. In the originals, each soldier in a unit felt like a individual. They would push each other, fights were actually unpredictable and interesting to watch. And although the graphics were primitive, clashes between units, cavalry charges, it all looked astonishing. Heck, it still does!
Hopefully, since this is a expansion, next game will have a decent engine for Melee Combat, because this one is simply terrible. It´s great for ranged warfare, but terrible for melee...
And hopefully Jeff Van Dyck will be back to bring some live to the game too...

Out of interest, I take it they have fixed Unit Collision? As i'm thinking about buying Rome 2 with Atilla when it comes out as a bundle.
At the moment i'm not sure i'll buy it at all, i'll just wait for Med 3 or whatever they choose next.

Same, I love Rome 2. it's too bad people with crappy computers blame the developers. I first played shogun but ever time I picked up a new TW I loved it. Even empire is still a blast for me.

Its not just that, for a lot of people its just how outrageously unhistorical some aspects of their games can be, like for instance Viking ships in Rome II when the Vikings themselves didn't appear until the 700s AD? Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying it but a lot of these people have made pretty good points.

I feel like this expansion might give this series some much-needed emotion and humanity. I need to care about my provinces in a way that's not just about losing a useful resource or a valuable tax base. This has always been what's missing in total war games.

Nice trailer CA. Especially at the end there. It's like they were arriving at the city of Marcianople, where the Romans attacked and try to kill the Gothic leaders.
Though the Battle of Adrianople from the Goths side better bet a historical battle.

***** No, I went ahead and bought it. It's okay from what I had played of it. Rome 2 Total War and Total War Atilla are similar in that these games use the same engines. Things are tweaked, old concepts are brought back from previous titles, there are new factions and some new components and features. The graphics (might) look better too. The big difference is that this game was sold as a stand alone for way more than it was worth (in my amateur opinion).
This game is is currently in the state that Rome 2 should have been (and was promised to be) at release. Is it worth the money as a consumer? Honestly? I want to say no; at the current price of 45 dollars (currently not on sale) and an average cost of 7 dollars per DLC. Not simply does the gameplay (which does bring some new and innovative features to the game) not warrant such a price but Creative Assembly (in my most humble, amateur opinion) no longer seems to care about its fan base. They strangle us with over priced DLC and cut out factions and features which seem like they should have been in the vanilla game at launch. But that's just my 2 cents.
Also on an unrelated side note, this game is totally unoptimized for MAC. If you are using a MAC do not buy this game. I had the most powerful macbook pro on the market at the time this game was released and it still doesn't run well (while Rome 2, in comparison, runs fantastic).

Alex I bought special edition for price 25€. For that price its good. Have played prologue and started as Franks. Its much more difficult with new management, I like it. Setting is pretty good. But all these features should have been in Rome 2 begin with.

well I didnt agree with Rome2 marketing practise but this time noone can say he didnt knew what he bought! There are 4-5 youtubers who uploaded or still uploading gameplays/previews etc. plus CA has livestreams in their twitch channel (2-3 i think). For the first time I think CA offer the public via youtubers/livestreams how Attila will be and what or not to expect. There are no secret feutures or misleading this time I think.

Why is everyone's depiction of Atilla caucasian? The only record of his appearance is the second hand account of a Roman official who described him as East Asian.
The only white nomads were probably slavic, but all the others, which constitute the majority, are either Indo-Iranian or East Asian.
Who on earth said he was Caucasian the Asian on horseback raiding that village was Hunnic this trailer was about the goths running away from the huns to get help from the Romans (byzantines)
Robert Schellenberger Watch harder, 1:07 there is this scene where he says his allies turn on them with a picture of Atilla on Horseback. But yeah, Atilla would have been similar to a Mongol. He gobbled up other tribes of more European decent to serve in his army later.
Not entirely sure what you are on about. The Hun at 1:12, who I'm going to assume might be Atilla due to the crown, doesn't look Caucasian in the slightest.

Well, to be precise slavic is just a cultural and linguistic denominator, not an actual ethnicity like white, black, asian etc.. Vikings created and founded most countries we now call slavic, for example Kievan Rus, Novgorod, Russia etc.. Were all nordic trading posts at first. Central european slavics are basically indistinguishable from say germans or belgians, they just speak their own language.

Stop complaining the games are still good there is just a new standards for games for "next gen." If you want that "next gen" game type wash out crap go to box or ps and stop bitching about this game or company they are doing great job. I've loved total war games since the first one and still do. Yes there are bumps on the road when games come out but aren't there with any game?? I love the game-play and I will keep buying it regardless and I'm supper excited for this one, I love the Dark Ages concept and it reminds me of the barb invasion which was freaking awesome!!

Historic trivia: Huns didn't have facial hair. Their skin was carved from a young age to get the hair out. They also used headbands to deform the heads of children.

And when you get the game the peasents when zoomed in => will not not have sound when striking the earth with the shovel => will not have the groan sound of the peasent working the land => will not have migration "civilian" troops rolling in lines when an migration "army" is encountered in combat. AND thats just couple of examples, the whole trailer is 99% hype and 1% actual ingame engine.

Just gonna put it out there, warscape does not affect unit collision.....ever wonder what the circles around your men are? They can be programmed to not touch each other (what basic collision is) so if CA wanted to change it, all they would have to do is program them to never touch. Funny that a lot of you people suddenly become experts of the engine online yet you don't know how simple to change it actually is. Colision is not affected by this engine....

They are what controls collision. I guess it is just a lack of effort or the fact they dont want to make any major changes to gameplay mechanics. Believe it or not a lot of people actually like the collision in Rome 2 compared to the Med 2 type where only the first line would get a good charge in and the rest of the unit would walk backwards a few steps (which I sometimes found really annoying) I like them men to be close together with the front 2 lines fighting.

Late reply, I know, and possibly not even relevant right now. But, if I am being honest, every time I read about the history of the Goths, I may just get some tears in my eye. How they endured such a long journey of abuse...
Pressure from the Huns, as it is said, moving them away from their homelands, abuse they have endured from the Romans and possibly other Germanic tribes... Ostrogoths selling themselves as mercenaries and such just to survive, for instance; much later on even finally occupying the Italian Peninsula as their land... only to lose it to Eastern 'Roman' aggression... I know I might not be giving the most accurate picture, but I could go on forever. And it wasn't very bright for the Visigoths either.
My point is, it's really sad for me regarding both branches of Goths.
Looks great and all, but then so did Rome 2. Will wait and see and won't be pre-ordering.

Probs before the splitting.
He is a Visigoth (western Goth) who went and beat then joined the (still unified) Romans, the allies he refers to who joined the Huns are the Ostrogoths (eastern Goths). The Visigoths fell out with the (newly split) Romans and sacked Rome before joining with the Western Romans again to defeat Attila (and his Ostrogoth allies) in Gaul. They ended up making an empire in Spain when the Romans fell. The Ostrogoths fell out with the Huns and revolted against them after Attilas death before eventually conquering Italy. Visigoth is a later invention meaning western Goth (the inventor thought Ostrogoth meant eastern Goth) while Ostrogoth was the name of one tribe in the other group, so both groups are rather misnamed. Both are groups of various Gothic tribes following a single leader with various trabl groups from other ethnicities joining them, including other Germans, Gepids, Sarmatians, Dcaians and Celts.
If the game starts realistically in 395 the Ostrogoths will be unhappy vassals of the Huns (though in truth they didn't rebel for another 60 years) while the Visigoths will be uneasy allies of the Romans living in Roman territory (20 years later they would be sacking Rome after Roman betrayal but 40 years after that be allies with the Romans again against the Huns). I fear the game will simplify things however.

In my opinion, total war current work great for the guns warfare due to the perfect synchronize like some of the guys up top had said. Melee combat with 1v1 kill animations looks nice in samurai battle from shogun but in large battlefield you could be stabbed from behind, tripped and trampled to death,... so the 1v1 is nice at first but gets kinda repetitive as it goes on. So hope the future TW series have the engine that can support these stuff.
