It looks great! I have the Nikon 14-30 f/4S but a prime would be nice and not destroy the bank. Viltrox is making a whole lot of Nikon Z mount lenses which is great to see 3rd party manufacturers finally getting fully on board.
    Thanks for sharing Richard.

This is great. For people like me who are amateurs and shoot the occasional astro photograph every now and then it is a good choice. It’s not overly expensive and since now viltrox offers autofocus that works its an added bonus for people with failing eyesight. 😃 Personally I know how to focus in the dark but if I don’t have my glasses I’d hate to go back home and discover that I’ve missed focus!

Excellent review Richard, inspiring photos. I carry the Z 20mm f/1.8 and the 14-30mm f/4 and I've been waiting for Nikon to release a 14, 15 or 16mm f/1.8 or even f/1.4 but it never comes out again.
I've already thought about buying the Sony 14mm f/1.8 but it costs a lot and you still have to use an adapter that costs almost half the price of the Vitrox 16mm lens. The Megadap FE-Z adapter costs €303.00 here at Europra. It's a shame Vitrox doesn't have this lens for Nikon Z because you'll have to use an adapter to use it on Nikon Z cameras.
Vitrox 16mm E-mount €599.00 + customs taxes +Megadap FE-Z €303.00 is a bit of a strange budget, but it's still a good option as Richard says for Nikon shooters.

Hi Richard another great video, just enquiring I know you like primes, but having the Sony 16-35 f2.8 is this not an ok lens if you were only using the one lens for both landscape & astrophotography. I do have primes like 20mm f1.8 & 24 f1.4 but was trying to cut down on lenses. What I am trying to say is 1.8 such a huge deal over the 2.8.? Confused on what lens is ok for Astro. Hi Wayne. Yes there is nothing wrong with the 16-35 f2.8 as it's a really nice all rounder. There are some occasions where that fast f1.8 aperture comes in really handy though . .such as getting better foreground detail on a dark night or aurora shooting.

I have truly enjoyed this and other videos you make about nightscape images. You have peaked my interest in learning how to make them myself. My photography background is in high school and some collegiate sports where my idea of a perfect lens is a Nikon 400mm 2.8. I have a good number of zooms but no wide angle primes except the Nikon 40mm 2.0 I got with the Zf kit. I am going to purchase the Viltrox 16mm. I own Nikon as well and have the Z9 which is amazing fast for sports. What advice would you give someone like me who would like to test the waters so to speak? I am subscribed to your channel and see some amazing images. I live on east coast of Florida in a small town, not too much light contamination. Just 60 miles south of Cape Canaveral. I wonder which lense to buy viltrox 16 or z20 for landscape milkyway or panoramic milkyway(arch).
I think it's problem to have strong vignetting when it comes to panorama. Viltrox may be troublesome… I should stopping down to f2.8.
As for z20 1.8, it cross my mind sigma 20
1.4 dg dn(there is some report to have trouble with using adaptor, though). And, z20 1.8 has also little come and strong vignetting(when stopping down, it

The Z20mm f1.8 is a better lens and what I would choose. All of these lenses have some vignetting wide open and that is often why I stop down the aperture a bit as well. The Sigma DGDN lenses are wonderful but I've not tried them on Nikon via adaptor.

I did try the Nikon 17-28 f2.8 and liked it a lot. But I would always go for the lens with the widest aperture for shooting nightscape photography. In that case the Viltrox 16mm f1.8.
If you want an all purpose lens for daytime shooting as well . .then the17-28 may well be the better option.

@@nightscapeimages.richard Hello, I bought Viltrox but I am already returning it. When using f1.8-2.8 the edges are very bad (not even the edges, but 30% from the edge). The Nikon Z 17-28 is significantly better. Maybe I came across such a specimen, but I think that this lens is not designed for the Z system, but an FZT adapter is added to the DSLR lens scheme. It's not the same.
If you have the opportunity, do a test on the day Nikon Z 14-24mm VS Viltrox at f/2.8. If the Viltrox edges are significantly worse then my version is correct, if the edges are similar then I had a bad copy and you have a great lens.
