Don wrote a heartfelt music for people to relate their lives to and it's about love that simply beautifies life. Regardless of commercial success, I do believe that the songwriting spirit in him will always remind people of how they could reach out to other people welcomingly and deservingly.
As many unspoken facts are not revealed until we don't have them, Don McLean will unfortunately be one of these facts. By all standards he is a true genius In not only story telling songs but capturing real life, love and death. And singing these verses with a God given voice. One in billion artists!
What a great talent. His music was so wonderful. Bye bye Miss American Pie got me thru some tough times. It made me happy when I was dealing with some sad times.
The words made me cry for my brother who died and as mentally iil and isolated for a great part of his life. Listen to the words. When you help someone you will know what these words will mean.
Thank You Don McLean for being one of my husband's and my absolutely favorite songs that we play everyday~ Bless You on Your continuing Journey through this lifetime!
A beautiful song. Don is such a talented singer, songwriter and guitarist. Perry Como did a good enough job with his easy listening cover, but Don's original is something else.
Don McLean was GENIUS! So many songs in our sub-consciousness that were his brainchildren. Soooo good, I heard this on a best-of this morning and it nearly brought me to tears, and that don't happen often. Nice stuff

Hi Stacey, if you love listening to this song, you should not miss Tapestry, Till tomorrow, Empty chairs, Oh my what a shame, If we try, Crossroads... there are just too many to name. Don 's lyrics are like poems. 40 years have gone and I am still touched by his songs.
I am still here, listening. When you find a good musician you hang on like glue. Was it only 40 years ago I found you, nay, must be a bit more, like almost 50.
I don't know Don McLean but he comes across as the every man, he grew up in New York not to far from me, making me think I understand him, perhaps a bit better than most. His songs are perfect slices of life not only for the everyman but for everyone.
Pure beauty ,in every note lyric ,emotion ,a true performance of love ,heartfelt ❤,shivers through my body ,thank you xx,the world is happy now you are around us all god bless
How wonderful to know that Don Mclean could write the sweetest words to this romantic ballad, probably the sweetest love song of all time, to a sweet melody There were others who did also sing this in their own way, but this tribute is to the originator, Don Mclean who was inspired to write and express the way that we feel, when we experience a true love glad to find this on your channel today and i wish to compliment you too.
I heard Don Mclean do this song live about 10yrs ago in Newport Beach, CA. and fell in love with it. I learned it and enjoy every time I get a chance to play it. Thank you Mr. Mclean
Every day when I visit UA-cam I am awed by the myriad of video offerings showcasing the talent of the Great Donald McLean. I can never have too many versions of the Madonna hit American Pie, but this classic ballad brings back happy memories of listening to the Tapestry elpee in 1972, songs like Castles in the Air, Magdalene Lane, Respectable and of course this - And I Love You So. Who could know then, that in a few months time, Don was to release his greatest ever song - Birthday Song!!!

@@donmclean8257 When I saw the the reply in my in box, i thought it was someone replying to what I had said about you. It cannot possibly be this famous singer and song writer who is writing to me. Huh? What? I guess we have been brought up to idolize entertainment figures like Johnny Mathis and Tab Hunter. Instead of thinking they are human beings whom the universe decided to give them special gifts. We are going through tough times and i worry about the future. I keep going back to the 60s when I listen to music. There are so many writers and composers of that era whose music made me stop and listen with my head and my heart. Music that was not only beautiful but spoke to the realities of the time. "To everything, turn, turn," Sam Cooke's "I know there is a change coming." You are so fortunate. You are right there with them at the top. Never stop. I would like to tell you more but I am afraid I would bore you to tears. Thank you for writing. You made it better today.

@@donmclean8257 Don McLean. Sometimes I go through the comments to your songs. I see how your songs have touched people in so many ways. Some reveal pain, healing, love and discovery of the beautiful world of a touching song. You are so privileged. I would dearly like to converse with you through these electronic means. You ask me to share my thoughts and as a fan to advice you. Advice you? What advice could I possibly give to a man whose songs have become icons? Who has traveled the world bringing joy to so many people and who is so loved and admired? Even if i tried, it would be presumptions and besides, you have probably heard it all before. When i was young in the 60s we ate dinner while hearing the body count of soldiers dead. We heard of fierce dogs being hurled at people who only wanted one thing, to be recognized as humans. Climate change and the absurd inequalities were not yet reflected in that tapestry. I worry about a future that could leave our planet unrecognizable. And just like Vincent, I often loose hope like lovers often do. You and I are the same age so what we have seen is much alike and we both have learned from the lives we have lived. Advice you? I could not even try. If i had your guitar, your voice and your inspiration, I would write a song dedicated to the third planet in the Solar System. No sermons, no speeches just a song. Maybe one more will listen now. You have heard this before. Sing. Sing! Sing!! until your chords refuse to obey you. Sing until you are one with the earth that created you. We need that now. Thank you Don McLean.
This is such a beautiful song. It reminds me of my wife, Joy, and my love for her. It also reminds me of my years in High school and the 2 or 3 girls that I sang this to, back in the 70s. I even bought the music book so I could learn to play it on the flute and the piano.
Great great great song. One of many by this fabulous song writer. And what a quality live performance. It's not as easy to sing well as he makes it sound.I still love to listen these from my old Don McLean LPs...
This is a real song about loving someone. It does not white wash love with roses. and shmultz. My husband and I listen to this song repeatedly from time to time. This song always reminds us how lucky we are to have found each other. Love makes an empty lonely universe full. Don Mclean's performance of this song is particularly beautiful as he improvises with measure some of the melody. A. Stevens

Don McLean will unfortunately be one of these facts.
By all standards he is a true genius
In not only story telling songs but capturing real life, love and death.
And singing these verses with a God given voice. One in billion artists!
man. still great. one of the best songs ever. And I agree, most underestimated artist ever.
I love his songs!
What a great talent. His music was so wonderful. Bye bye Miss American Pie got me thru some tough times. It made me happy when I was dealing with some sad times.
Hello Kathy, How are you doing?
The words made me cry for my brother who died and as mentally iil and isolated for a great part of his life. Listen to the words. When you help someone you will know what these words will mean.

thats sad.
This and Vincent show what a poet he is....
Vincent gives me goose bumps, or as we say colloquially, chilly bumps every time. Very similar feeling to a lot of Simon and Garfunkel ballads.
My late husband loved his song Vincent
@Love Not Hate Not at single one.
way more than just those...
very beautiful song ,listened again and again, deeply moved
Hello Judy, How are you doing?
Don McLean was GENIUS! So many songs in our sub-consciousness that were his brainchildren. Soooo good, I heard this on a best-of this morning and it nearly brought me to tears, and that don't happen often. Nice stuff
I’d be in love if a guy sings this song to me😭❤️ I’m part of GenZ but this kind of songs are the ones that really captures my heart. I wish there are still music artists who makes more songs like this and not just sexual ones
😊😊Hi there
Thanks for your love and support that has brought me this far, it has been a hard time for me going through this but your love and support keeps me going and standing strong in this difficult times. I do read your heartwarming comments and I truly appreciate all you’ve done for me throughout the years.
It’s a season of love😍❤️❤️ for me and so I decided to put a smile on the faces of my fans by going through my UA-cam channel and checking out on my fans, so I can get to communicate with my fans better through discussion of depth and humor listening to o and criticism of my career.💞💞🙏
Best song I’ve ever heard ❤❤❤
Hello Mary . How are you doing today and hope you’re staying safe?
Awww he said smooching.... And I love that his wrist un-SNAPPED not unbuttoned. I love his lyrics, I always have. He was my first record purchase, too. *hugs Don* My 14-year-old daughter and I play your music so often. Thank you for sharing yourself and your time with us back then. Come to Seattle, we'll have you over for dinner. :) :) :) We play a mean game of Rummy.
There's been many renditions of this spellbinding tune, everyone from Elvis to Shirley Bassey, but Don's version is the best for me
I keep returning to this video, his voice in this live recording is soooo warm and loving. Makes me shiver every time.
Thanks for sharing.Perfect timing.♥️😇🤙Sending a shout out for a BLESSED BIRTHDAY 🎂 for that man close to my heart.Have a BLESSED ONE.
A masterpiece
Hi Stacey, if you love listening to this song, you should not miss Tapestry, Till tomorrow, Empty chairs, Oh my what a shame, If we try, Crossroads... there are just too many to name. Don 's lyrics are like poems. 40 years have gone and I am still touched by his songs.
Hello beautiful, how are you doing today pretty woman?
There is absolutely no song or performance better than this one by Don.
I agree with you ❤
I am still here, listening. When you find a good musician you hang on like glue. Was it only 40 years ago I found you, nay, must be a bit more, like almost 50.

This song should be prescribed by the doctors as medicine...for mental cure! Thanks Don for your sweet voice.
everyone's been in love ... at least once :) Don McLean reaffirms my faith in love - love and let live
I agree. This beautiful song is like a gentle hand soothing away the pain.
Anne Hajdu I agree
That’s what I’m doing when my insanity sits in. I think he understands sadness so well, Vincent for one. He’s a troubadour indeed.
Absolutely right !!!❤️
I listen to his music right before I go to bed his voice and music puts me in a calming mood to sleep. thank you Don.
Timeless with no boundaries!
Hello beautiful, how are you doing today pretty woman?
I don't know Don McLean but he comes across as the every man, he grew up in New York not to far from me, making me think I understand him, perhaps a bit better than most. His songs are perfect slices of life not only for the everyman but for everyone.
what a beautiful song.
Pure beauty ,in every note lyric ,emotion ,a true performance of love ,heartfelt ❤,shivers through my body ,thank you xx,the world is happy now you are around us all god bless
How wonderful to know that Don Mclean
could write the sweetest words to this
romantic ballad, probably the sweetest
love song of all time, to a sweet melody
There were others who did also sing this
in their own way, but this tribute is to the
originator, Don Mclean who was inspired
to write and express the way that we feel,
when we experience a true love
glad to find this on your channel today and
i wish to compliment you too.
So so beautiful. The. Way. He. Sings. This. Song. Touches. Your. Soul What. A. Timeless. Treasure. Such. A. Amazing. Artist.
Anybody listening in January 2021? Thumbs up!😃👍👏👏👏
Jetzt ist 2024.
Höre immer noch zu.

It's my 1 of favorite. I do listen periodically !
Those were the magical moments ...
Este cantante crea, escribe sus canciones y han sido famosas. Que lindo recordar la niñez, juventud, y ser un artista. Se lo ganó todo,
I heard Don Mclean do this song live about 10yrs ago in Newport Beach, CA. and fell in love with it. I learned it and enjoy every time I get a chance to play it. Thank you Mr. Mclean
This song tears me apart 😢 unbelievable beautiful song doesn’t matter the mood it’s pure magical
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Still makes me cry

A Wonderful Song that Expresses the Core of the Heart in LOVE !!!
Listen to the Lyrics!, they are still true today in July of 2020 (A year we will never forget.)

That voice...wow. It really gave me chills, and I'm not one who is easily moved by such things.
listen to Vincent. Equally moving.
What a beautiful beautiful voice. How effortlessly he puts in little variations of the melody.
This is so much better than Como's orchestrated version.
So pure! God Don is one great writer and performer! Thanks for years of fabulous memories!
You set my spirit free - such a beautiful song
the wind blows softly shaking the tips of the leaves then it straight comes into your heart to say something about a true love
Hello beautiful, how are you doing today pretty woman?
I love this song, reminds me of someone special in life.

i first heard this song when I was 16 (about 15 years ago) I was into hard rock and rap... but I knew right away this was the real deal and would be around a lot longer then most of the music I was listening to then... Finally, this was one artist my dad would let me play out loud on my stereo!!!
This is much better than the original studio single version with overblown orchestration, especially strings. Thanks you.
TheRunner75 I completely agree. This stripped down version of just him and his guitar reveals the soul.
Both have their pros and cons
'the book of life is brief and once the page is read , all but love is dead , that is my belief '
well crafted amd haunting words !
Its a wonderful song, I really loved to listen all the time
Hearing this I stop everything and just listen to every word, everg breath, every chord. It is that powerful. With that, Don, you did it again. Thanks.

"To everything, turn, turn," Sam Cooke's "I know there is a change coming."
You are so fortunate. You are right there with them at the top. Never stop.
I would like to tell you more but I am afraid I would bore you to tears.
Thank you for writing. You made it better today.
@@mildredmartinez8843 thanks for your wonderful wishes and comment it's a pleasure to me. If you don't mind I would like to have a personal conversation with you to know more about your good thoughts and advice towards me as a fan of mine.
Love is the highest of all ratings. Thank you, I love you.
Great great great song. One of many by this fabulous song writer. And what a quality live performance. It's not as easy to sing well as he makes it sound.I still love to listen these from my old Don McLean LPs...
2016 and I am still loving this song!!! Legendary!!!!
A. Stevens
