Anyway, "Promise" was composed by Lay himself after his fellow Chinese members left, the Lyrics was written by Lay too with Chanyeol & Chen (it is said that even the other members helped too). It's the most important and the treasure song of EXO-L. it's very precious to us since it's from the members hearts. It's them saying sorry for breaking their promise to be together (OT12) forever. and thanking EXO-L for staying despite the hurt & sadness and asking them to stay & be with them forever just like before and they will do anything for us to bring our smiles back.
It's a special song for EXO-L especially the EXO-L that's been with them since day1 and experienced it.... (The happiness, excitement for the group and the hurt & sadness seeing the 3 members leave.)
PROMISE is the treasure of EXO & EXO-L.
BBYU SungJae_SooYoung not for me. The amount of disrespect Sehun got in this song is mindblowing. Initially it's indeed a very emotional song & I always moved by the lyric but it became meh later when I realized Sehun got almost nothing. Besides, you overworshipped it too much. Don't talk about it like it's a fact.
@@resurgingflame he/she didn't overworship it. This song is the proof of the promise made between EXO & EXO-Ls so she is right. This song carries all the words EXO want to say to us & Dear You has all the words we want to say to them. I think he/she gave it the correct amount of hype that it deserves.
And yes Sehun was disrespected in the sharing of lines but don't forget, he also backed up his members' vocals a lot. I too also wish I could hear him sing/rap in this but hey we can't turn back time. We can only make things better going forward.
@@resurgingflame I am a new fan so I didn't experience 2014-2015 when members left the group. But from what I've read about their experience at the time, they really experienced a hard time. This is mainly because when members left, fans don't trust the 'team spirit' anymore, which is extremely important for a Kpop group to keep their fans loyal. So, at the time, a lot of fans left or at least started to consider leaving the fandom, including many whose bias are those left. It was this song that stopped many fans from leaving because they saw the team spirit between the remaining members and it gave them some confidence to trust them again. About Sehun's part, it's not only this song. He didn't get much lyrics in earlier songs, and his part has increased in recent years. Hope this will help.
Xiangjie Xiao sorry to break this to you but I'm a fan since 2016, just a couple of months before Monster dropped. & even then, I've some friends who's EXO-L since 2014 so in a way, I pretty much knew what their struggles & experiences back then. This song is indeed meaningful & important & I wasn't disregarding that fact. However to say that it's "the most important song" for EVERY EXO-L is really a stretch. Treasure? Yes. But most important, I can argue some fans have different songs they regard as the most important(for me it's SFY bcuz that song lifts me up in one of the worst moment of my life).
& another thing that puts me off about this song is like I said, how Sehun got almost nothing. Yes Sehun always got the least lines but you've to understand my pov. 1) 2015 is actually the year Sehun got more than he used to, even before Promise released, 2) I study vocal pedagogy & vocal technique y'know, so I know there are some parts in the song that's in Sehun's range & he can sing it perfectly fine. Heck they'd have choose one of these options :
*Put him in Chanyeol's beginning rap part(where it's softer & easy to articulate)
*Made him harmonize in certain parts with other members
*Made him sing some members' parts in live.
If just at least one of those happened then I'd be really fine, but they didn't :\
3) I actually not really pressed when it comes to Sehun's lines. I mean plenty of Xunqis can be really bitchy about it but I'm not the one to complain about it all day & night. The only reason I made an exception to this song is bcuz the very meaning of it & the year it's released. Like all we know, the song is about an apology & grateful statement from the members to the fans. But how Sehun could relay his own message if he's given like what? Less than 10 secs of lines? & it's not even sung, he just speaks thru it. Kai was given a lot of parts in this song & Xiumin got tons of as well, harder lines even to sing when he's never gotten in earlier years. So it's really not an excuse.
Also idk if you know this but Sehun is one of the top members antis targetted the most back then & 2015 is the peak year where he got the most affected. People came to him about almost everything. He practiced his dance late at night until 3 am, he practiced rapping with Chanyeol until morning, he cried in one of the concert bcuz he can't participate after his head accidentally clashed with a stage camera, & the worst is in SFY era where he's seen shaking a couple of times when he sings his part & the other members seen supporting him by watching him or clapping & even gave him thumbs up after he sings ONE line. So to see that he got barely nothing about the song that's supposedly a way for them to apologize & showing gratefulness to the fans by staying with them(& considering Sehun's condition back then) is just so sad.
I might come off as dramatic or biased here, but you've to understand that I'm an EXO-L bcuz of Sehun. I prob wouldn't be their fan now if I didn't check Sehun out of curiosity back then. So to see him not being able to convey his emotion thru the song & can only watched the stadium & his members singing & rapping to the top of their lungs really breaks my heart.
Xiangjie Xiao Also the prospect of losing fans back then wasn't that horrible y'know? The thing is, the ones that left EXO were the Chinese members. You prob don't know but Korean & Chinese citizen has always been lowkey disliking each other despite the good connection they've back then. So when KLT left, their korean fanbase was still REALLY strong. It's so strong that the possibility of them flopping back then was rather small. Why do you think after those incidents, Lay got so much hates & dissing to left the group esp from kfans? Why at the same time cfans urged him to take the same path & just be a soloist in China? Not to mention their intl fanbase back then isn't as big as what they've now so they don't really lose that much fans. This song definitely serves a purpose of *strengthening* the bond between EXO & EXO-L, but not acted as a glue to keep fans from abandoning them. Esp on bigger scale.
2014 - EXO made a new promise to us. Lay had a hard time when all his Chinese bandmates left, dealing with fans who felt he would leave and betray them too. He's always had to walk a fine line between both his Chinese and EXO roots. He's said that he wanted to honor his contract to the company that trained him to who he is now and to not discourage them from accepting more international trainees. Promise was one Lay's many compositions that disappeared when his hard drive got wiped out. He was so distraught & worked super hard to make it again. Pls protect this precious boi

people dont understand how many hardships they went through and how much we as fans went through along with them. in fact our pain cant be compared to theirs. those 'fans' who left EXO bcz they didnt believe in them, didnt help them, and thought EXO was going down are the same ones who act loud now and hate on them bcz they survived and they came back stronger than ever. they still think SM did things fr EXO or that their success is bcz of SM when in reality EXO-Ls have fought tooth and nail for every single thing, the shitty promotions, the lack of exposure, the poor management and it only got worse. its only us fighting alone for them by outdoing ourselves every comeback and them fighting on their end to outdo the EXO of the past whom they consider their only rival. i do not understand how anyone can hate and shade them for having it easy after ALL of this, just bcz they achieved things others only dreamed of. not to mention the shit they go through daily bcz of antis. you dont know the half of it.
What precious about EXO and EXOLs relationship is that we believe each other... EXOLs who keep stay at EXO's side and believe in them during their hard time, and EXO who tried to get up from their dark time for EXOLs...

Hi mama pilpug, please read this. This song... this song is really sad. As you can see the title, it's called Promise (EXO 2014). They purposely wrote the title with "EXO 2014". Actually, back in 2014, everything was just a mess. First, Kris left, then Baekhyun scandal, the Luhan left, then Tao left. All that in 2014 up to 2015. This song explains what they want to express to their fans. Basically, they kept disappointing their fans back then. They wrote this song to say sorry and that they promise to not disappoint us again. If you were an exo-l back then, everything was just so hard. If you watch their live performance of that song in their concert, there's this one time when Baekhyun was really crying so hard. HE WAS LITERALLY CHOKING WHEN HE SANG. I just can't believe we all got through that time. I am so proud that we're still here after everything. I hope we will all stay together until the end. I love you all exo-ls all around the world. Please, please let us support them no matter what. Dating issues and military enlistment, yes it will all come soon. Let us stay together forever. We are one, we will always be one. Let's love!!!
it's a normal reaction when you cry while listening to this song (esp when you are a real EXO-L and the meaning of those every single lyrics in the song hurt) :)))))
Whenever I hear this song I remember about those vcr snippets with images of the members sleeping on the rehearsal stage (when they were preparing for their first concert). And I'm sorry but I can't forget how Kris left them, at the worst possible timing for the group and the best timing for him PR wise, one week before their first concert, so they had to recoreograph the whole concert in one week. That's what I'm thinking about everytime I hear this song. The whole member departing was a blow for the fandom but an even bigger blow for the members, since they were a relatively new group. I also remember about Chanyeol's speech and look when they won the Overdose daesang. These are 2 of the moments that are most engraved in my memory as an 7 year exo-l. And people regard exo lightly because they come from a big company, but the truth is, I have seen few groups to respect and cherish their fans as much as exo does.
Anyone who never experienced that won't ever understand how it felt,, that's why we don't like if anyone used that for dragging us..coz us never wish this hpnd to any grp no matter how much they hate EXO,, n told bad things bout them..we here for them n only for them.. others never knew what bond we have EXO n EXOL

You know what.. each time i hear this song.. it got me goosebumps.. and then when it's come to Chanyeol's part.. I started to cry.. plus.. i heard that the korean ver of PROMISE is for the fans.. but the Chinese ver is specifically for the members that have left... And the chinese ver is more touching (for me)
Its such an emotional song for us, but also for them. I have seen this performed in several vids already and at least one or two exo members cries during this performance. I was crying right there with you and I've heard this song a dozen times. Its way worse when you see them cry. It's impossible not to cry for them and want to comfort them too.

*"Promise"* is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE song out there!!! NOTHING can top Promise!!! Because I LOVE ballads and also because this song means SO MUCH to EXO and EXO-Ls!!! In the past I couldn't stop crying listening to it no matter where I was or what I was doing, so this is why I couldn't really listen to it anywhere >.< But now I'm a little better at NOT crying while listening to it... >.<
Girl stop it. I'm crying with you. When this song came out I cried. When I saw the boys driving around in the stadiums at their concerts singing to the crowd and crying, I was crying. When I first heard and read Chanyeol's rap I was crying. It's hard not to watch the live singing at their concerts without feeling emotional, we know what a devastating time it was for them, they lost their friends, brothers, it's like cutting off a limb, they thought the fans would abandon them, but they didn't, the fans loved them more and supported them more and the boys were very grateful for that. THEY have feelings too, get very tired too, work while in pain sometimes too, don't get enough sleep and get exhausted and jet-lagged too, but they do what they must for the fans, and they thank the fans for understanding that. It hits my heart everytime Sylvia, so you cry girl, we all feel the same. I love your heartfelt honesty.

You can also find a full up close fancam of Kai crying while trying to hide his eyes with the black cap. Lay has also used the background music for Promise during his solo performance and bowed for over a minute to it. For your own education, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the Chinese version (LAYYYYYYY~!) and watching the Tokyo Dome concert performance of this song. The fans attending did a project for EXO that they didn’t know about, and had such an emotional reaction to it. His FMV was probably the best one to react to Promise to though. Don’t feel bad about crying at all. I think almost every EXO-L has cried to this song at least once in their life no matter how long they’ve been a fan.
I was also a Baby EXol I became a fan only from TEMPO but that song I cried too and I listen Everytime when ever some people bad-mouth them it gave me the strength and love even more. I can't leave this family.

Promise was released on 2015, the other title song for Promise is EXO 2014 because of what happened in year 2014 (members left and dating issue) but that year was the reason why EXO-L fandom is really strong right now. It makes us strong and keep on loving EXO.
I swear this song brings me to tears every time knowing that they wrote it for EXO-L’S during the time when Tao kris and Luhan left and reading the lyrics always makes me think how could they ever say that they do deserve us even tho they deserve everything in the world. I hope EXO-L’s remember that Chen and Chanyeol wrote the lyrics

U should see the fan project EXO-L made for EXO during their concert in Japan. They were performing Promise WHILE CRYING because they were so touched by what EXO-L did.
I’d highly suggest checking out the chinese version of Promise, the meaning of the song is quite different and I think it coincides more with Lay’s original intention of what he wanted the song to be about since he could both write and express his feelings better in his own language. This song was one of many self-composed songs that he lost off his drive, but managed to reconstruct it. And on top of that disaster, SM gave him a hard time to even release this song, but after doing so, it has become one of exo’s most meaningful songs for not only the members, but for the fandom as well. Props to Lay for not giving up

i always cried so bad, like literally sobbing so hard everytime i see or hear promise. you made me cry again by watching this 😭 this song means a lot to me, especially as i’ve been an exo-l since their pre-debut era. seeing their debut teasers (goosebumps), debuted (happiest time for me ever), grew up together, became most successful boys i’ve ever known, until 2014 happened. it hurts me so bad when kris left, followed by the other two. the news even made me cries whole day, until i slept and thought it was just a dream... i feel like i have a very deep connection with them eventho i never meet them until now.... i grew with them and they helped me so much with my real life problems, even by just hearing their songs and seeing their personalities through variety show(you have to watch exo showtime, exo’s variety show!) i’m very thankful for them and proud of myself as i still stand here with them, from the very first time, today, and hopefully till the end❤️ thankyou for watching and giving these reactions💕

I love them so much like they really HELP ME with everything I've been thru, like I finally found a peace, and have peace with my past. They help me thru it. I love EXO so much they give me strength like no one can do. And I'm very very very happy since I joined the fandom.
