The Downside of Having Pure Grid Tied System in the Philippines
I have been receiving multiple questions about why I don't make any tutorial videos regarding pure grid-tied solar setup on my UA-cam channel. So here's the reason why.
In this video, I talked about two ways of having a GTI setup. The first is by installing a limiter on the GTI setup, and the second is to apply a "net-metering" to be provided by power companies.
Be attentive to the part where I talked about the “limiter" and the “biggest irony" of having a pure grid-tied solar setup.

You are so right po with this video. Pareho po kami nitong si DIYRETIRED CPT sa situation. I live in an area serviced by Meralco. I have a net metering set up with them. Around 6 years na yung unang set ko (1kW). Added a 2kW set a year later. Ang import is priced at Php10 approximately at ang export is priced at Php5 approximately. Depends on the cost of electricity for the month. Lugi pa rin ang consumer even if you're an exporter to the grid. At hindi nga po madali ang pag approve sa net metering. We had to replace our service entrance then. Mahigpit ang process, mind you this was back in 2016 pa. Nakalusot naman, but it was not easy. Daan sa butas ng karayom.
At this stage, I plan on replacing my inverters (naka micro inverters po ako) with a hybrid one sa future, basta magka budget. Ayos pa naman ang mga panels so I'll use those. Gagawa muna ako ng DIY battery bank. Unti unti, no one here loves their DU sa Pilipinas. Grabe ang taas ng cost of electricity.

Dahil maaring aprox 5php Lang din Ang bayad Ng DU sa generation or sa mga nag generate Ng current. Kaya Naman nagiging 10 kc dadaan pa sa transmission line, tas gagastos din Ang DU sa operation plus taxes etc. 😊 Openion ko Lang po hehe ✌️
Very well said sir JF about grid-tied setup. However, I hope ma-tackle mo din at ma-compare which setup will give best ROI, simplicity and very minimal maintenance. Correct sir that hybrid on-grid/off-grid setup is what one dream to have. But as everything in life, there is 'no such thing as free lunch' as this comes with cost and complexity. Yes, we all share the same disappointment with utility company and government. But at the end of the day, we are still Filipino who should love our own country. Continue and don't stop to inspire us and our kababayans by spreading good news about renewable energy to our LPP group where I am also a member and occasionally share experience. Good day. Karamihan po ngayon sa mga grid-tied inverter na nabibili ay stackable and easy for parallel connection. May kasama na din na diagram kung paano ang mga connections. Pero try ko kung makakagawa ako ng video tutorial 😊👍

Tama ka sir JF, naka Grid tied ako na net metering, pero nagbubuo pa din ako ng Off Grid para pagwalang supply ang Elec. Co. may kuryente pa din ako. Maganda pala dyan sa Europe at binabayaran nila ang kuryente sobra na naibibigay nyo.

Sir some solarista po ay eyeing for low cost set.up than can help lessen the burden of electric bill. And also to help the electric company supply some.excess power of generation. Kasi one of the reason kung bakit palaging black.out sa pilipinas ay dahil kulang po or hindi enough ang generation dahil sobrang matagal na aaproved ang bagong planta sa atin.
Homes with gridtie set.up can help generate those power.
sir JF totoo po ang mga sinabi ninyo tungkol sa gridtie system pero i presume depende po sa setup at nagsetup ng system.if you notice my previous post sa group about my monthly electric bills it helps me a lot financially.However my gridtie setup composed of cheap 24 volts,600watts china made gti supplied by 4 x100 watts panel in 2s2p configiration ,half of this controlled by cheap yellow colored limiter besides this gti is controlled by my refrigerator thermostat..ie..when ref is off gti is off..but when i used additional load i click a switch to on the gti ..if the power meter is not enough for the load another set of gti will be on but this gti when off the pv power charged my offgrid system..this is my way of controlling my bills..

Tama po ang sinabi ninyo na maliit lang ang halaga pag nag export ka.May Net metering po ako sa bahay at 6 years(ROI na din) at gumagana pa din pero ang generation niya lumiit na pero naka tulong pa din sa babayarin.So far ok pa din at tumatakbo ng maayos.SALAMAT Po sa mga natuturo ninyo at nag DIY po ako ngayon ng 8kw inverters grid tie(66 yrs old na :) ) at baka mag tanong po ako sa group natin at almost full na kasi ang hardisk ng BRAIN ko.
In progress pa ang ginagawa ko at connection ng wiring na lang at mahigit Isang buwan ko na ginagawa pag may pambili ng parts :). Utilities supplier will immidiate approval to be implemented after two months from application, so that more people get inspired to have solar and can export exesting amps by grid tie connection then people can contribute more cheaperr electricity for industrial use in daytime and can help save to usr very ecpensive fosil fuel and can bring production cost lowered instead of giving dole to individual people tovmake law to give a grid tie solar set up to those who is knowledgeable person about solar installation maintenance and repairs and in this way we can have cheaper electricity like peoples initiatives and cooperation to bring our country to a progressive industrislized .

At kung offgrid mahal battery parang nag advance ka lng ka merlarco ng bayad para sakin kung tupid ongrid kasi pag summer sa pinas magagamit mo talaga sa init sa araw
Tama sir, dahil sa export rate ang baba, lugi.
Kaya off grid lang ako, less hassle. Gamitin ko na lang yung excess pag maaraw (14V) at hindi na kayang tanggapin ng battery. (Bantay sarado sa Google weather forecast)
Magtitira lang ng 13.1V para sa gabi/magdamag na konsumo at emergency. Yung continuous load (ref)at high power( vacuum, washing machine, microwave, induction) kay meralcopa rin
pero yung mga lights electric fan TV, may sariling line ( extensions) para pwede mag-tap sa solar setup.
Additional tip, pay your bill ahead and in installment para magamit nyo yung Shopee vouchers ( accumulate upto Php400-600 additional monthly savings kung nasa Php3000 ang konsumo nyo). 1 month sacrifice lang sa initial advance, tuloy tuloy na buong taon.

Abang ka sir ng 20% (Php80 cashback pag Php400) pag mid- end-of-month, 1 day before that, at yung 8-8, 9-9, etc monthly sale.
Makakatyempo ka rin ng 30% (Php150 cashback at Php payment). At minsan 60%(Php240 CB pag Php400).
Pero madalas 10% off pag Php1000.
Basta gising ka ng midnight to 2am, mas maraming chance. mga 5 to 8 vouchers per month usually. Yung ibang sobra sa internet payment ko na ginagamit.

If ang goal ko lang sir is mabawasan yung bill ko monthly, pwede siguro nu na mas mababa yung grid tie set up ko sa need ng bahay. Halimbawa nasa 700w yung kunsomo ng bahay during day time, pwede ako mag set up ng 500w pure grid tie para kahit di na mag limiter or sumablay man ang limiter hindi ako makakapag export sa DU?

Ang grid tied inverter ay dapat sa DU naka connect at hindi sa off-grid inverter. Malinaw namang nakasulat sa manual yan. Sundin mo ang kung ano ang sinsabi sa instruction manual at hindi ka magkakamali.

Hindi pwedeng lagyan nf battery ang pure gris tied system kaya walang hong murang paraan para dyan. Kailangan nyo ng panibago para sa hybrid on/off-grid setup.

Itanong lang sa sarili the following:
1. Ilan beses ba ang brownout sa area nyo sa isa taon. Real talk lang.
2. Average typhoon sa pinas mga 20. Lahat ba yan tatama sa area mo? Real talk lang.
3. Aabot ba ang budget kapag mag hybrid inverter at powerwall. Kung uutangin wag na. Tatagal ang ROI and it will affect rate of return ng invetment mo. May calculation yan. Dont just depend on opinions.
4. Sa P5 for export pwede na kesa wala. Sa isa taon mgkano din yan ah. Sa tropa ko sa 4yrs solar setup nya full grid tied, nasa P92k na din ang export nya.
By the way im using Deye Inverter 5kw hybrid with 48v200ah powerwall. ✌🙂
