I am still driving my 04 4Runner V8 because the truck is a beast and the motor runs forever with basic maintenance. Vehicles aren't built to that same standard today.
They need to put the turbo V6 in the 4runner for those of us who don't care about the MPG. Shit honestly leave the current V6 and upgrade the transmission to an 8-10 speed over the 5. You will get more MPG and the same sturdy motor that has been proven for years. Would love to see them bring back the V8 for 4Runner but that will never happen.
More gears is not necessarily better. They have to be smaller to fit in the same space - that means less material to take the same amount of force from the engine and road. Lots of Ford 10spds and Chrysler 8spds are being replaced less than 100k miles because of it

The size of the exhaust system due to the turbos may prevent it from being a good candidate for the 4Runner or Tacoma platforms. Plus: Toyota does not build dyno queens like the TRX. They know you can’t put power down off-road except in a long flat straight, so what does it matter. My Tacoma TRD Pro can keep up with a Raptor/BR on most trails and has half the horsepower. And please don’t mention Jeeps. Yes, they can go anywhere and more places than my Tacoma but you can’t take them down a trail at the same speed due to their geometry…
Focus on quality of build. None of your competitor's vehicles will reach 300,000 miles. The Hilux and 4Runner trucks are the quality us truck people expect. Let haters cut corners (ford bronco - aka lifted mini cooper) and we'll watch them dry up and break down. 4Runner is not antiquated. Media spews that nonsense, to bump up the image of U.S. auto-makers. Don't fall into the trap. Simply build the best vehicles.
I like my bronco, haven’t had any issues. The only issue comes from people that have never had a 4wd going out on trails breaking things due to inexperienced. Toyota has its list of problems to. Besides who is going to be able to afford a $60k 4 runner? I paid $35 for mine

Former Toyota trucks lasting 20+ years on the road. Hybrids last about 10ish when that $$$ battery craps out, which to me compromises their longevity. I think many will buy something else for less. My take is, hybrid should be an option, not the only choice for a model like a 4runner.

Unfortunately, this new generation is too stupid to shift, and automatics have gained on the lost gas mileage that used to give manuals the advantage. Therefore, they don't sell enough manuals to justify the engineering costs and supply constraints. I love manuals myself, but I'm looking for an Avalon or Camry, so no joy.
You better hurry, they are about to jack up the 4runner soon with hybrid, etc. I just bought my new 22 4runner trd pro, and enjoying it. Too much tech and you could end up stranded offroad somewhere, due to water crossings or too much dust. I have had trouble with alkali desert dust messing up sensor wires connectors offroad.
I purchased my dad's 2006 Tundra with 326k mi in 2014 shortly after college. I was forced to sell it after it was rammed by a street racer while it was parked. It had 618k when I sold it. CEL came on at 423k mi due to air mass flow. Bought a bypass kit, installed it, CEL went away. Never had an issue other than the usual oil changes, timing belt, serpentine belt, brake pads etc (Usual maintenance). I'm sure a lot of you heard about the 2007 million mile Tundra from Louisiana. He was a shot caller who pulled , hauled cargos for oil companies to Alaska, Texas and throughout the US. The only major failure he had is the reverse went out at 768k. He didn't have time to get it fixed so he drove it until it reached 1 million mi. There's a second Tundra that reached million miles but I don't know anything about it. Also I have an off grid property and I need a reliable truck that will get me from point A to point Z and back and then some. I was actually considering the new Bronco. However after seeing 3 broncos sitting at the dealership awaiting engine replacement and/or other parts, I decided not to pursue it. Maybe in 5 or 6 years after Ford iron out the defects, then I'll reconsider.

Please stop "offroad" hybrids. Chrysler already has a class action lawsuit over the Wrangler 4XE hybrid models. They're in the 60k range new. They randomly shut down on the road, the hybrid system doesn't work in the cold, and the 700lb battery reduces the fuel tank size from 21 to 17 gallons. Giving range anxiety offroad.
Battery mounted low is terrifying off-road, wonder what happens when punctured by a rock. Battery mounted higher is terrifying off-road, wonder what that extra weight does to the roll over angle. Not to mention the weight. 4x4's should be as basic and functional as possible.
I love 4Runners for their rugged reliability. I don't care if the cabin is dated etc, I want a vehicle that can deal with adverse conditions and last for decades. I will not buy a hybrid T4R.

I went to dealership TOYOTA TUSTIN and did 1k downpayment for the hybrid Rav4 XSE white Fully Loaded .. and they said its gonna build this coming Jan 24 2023 then the car would be here around mid february or worst case end of february .. you think this is true ? Sadly building manufacturing EV vechicles have a greater impact on the environment than gas cars. After manufacturing them they have an ever great impact on environment when they reach the end of their lives than a gas car. So I think it will take 30 years of use to off set the environment impact of an electric car.
If Toyota had an American EV/ battery recycling plant that brought down the price of replacing hybrid batteries, it could be the best of both worlds, efficiency and the longevity Toyota owners respect from the truck platforms.

Not me. I live in the mountains. At high altitude, normally aspirated engines lose 3% of their power for every 1000 feet of altitude. If you have a 300-horsepower SUV and drive it up to 10,000 feet, you only have 210 horsepower - but with a turbo you still have 300.

The average failure mileage for the bronco was 2,491 miles. I’m don’t care how good your 4WD is if you have a potential ticking time bomb under the hood. Toyota it was a good car company ever since they started to build cars and trucks in the US quality reliability went down the toilet. Toyota is now just like chevy and ford they suck.
You dont buy a 4 runner for fuel efficiency, you buy a a 4 runner for off roading and having a dependable ride, if made in Japan!

2025, not 2024 for 6th gen 4runner. Sadly, does seem like toyota is considering hybrid though. Mostly because of emissions standards.
They need to bring back the FJ! They should add a naturally aspirated V-8 with a removable roof.
