Emergency Alert System (UK) - 1990s Nuclear Attack Warning

- The year is 1995: John Major is in power, Timothy McVeigh blows up a building, and Japanese Jesus gasses the subways. But what if history had taken a darker turn. What if, North Korea, fueled in secret by Chinese cash, decided to change everything? Today's broadcast depicts what might have happened...
This video was originally meant to be released on the 7th of February, to celebrate 4 years since my original WW3 EAS Part 1 video. Unfortunately delays meant that couldn't happen, but better late than never.
NOTE: This is not part of the Rebuild Series. Any videos that are a part of that will be in the playlist.

Hold on, is this related to the Rebuild Party?
It’s fine and I guess this is a sequel? due to the 1980
Oh, Well, Happy Late 4th Anniversary!!
Your UA-cam descriptions filled with historical context along with the videos always work so well with each other.
I was assuming the Japanese Jesus gassing subways was a reference to Aum shinrikyo

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The BBC would not use an automated voice. Especially not in the 1990s.
This been heavily edited from now.
Possible it was text only. Or it's been over dubbed to avoid UA-cam flagging?
But the dub does make me question the legitimately of this too.
Also the BBC would use the correct ‘first come, first servED’ not ‘first serve’ - unless they’re playing tennis!
Also phone networks..plural?
There was only one.
@@FilmPunkThere were fledgling mobile networks and Mercury Communications (they of the Cholmondely-Warner ads) as an early rival to the privatized BT. If we're talking about the Major era (which effectively coincided with the BBC presentation shown in the video), that time period was actually the time when mobile phones went from giant bricks kept in the car to the precursor phones of 1996-97. Meanwhile, the 1987 Hungerford mass shooting exposed how vulnerable the old network was to congestion, when multiple people calling 999 clogged everything up, so that would still have been the catalyst for redevelopment of the phone network.
Additionally, PhONEday, when extra digits were added to landline numbers in order to expand the range of numbers for the nascent mobile phone network was in 1995. So if it's Major in power, that's the time at which the telecoms system was being built into the network it is today.
I think a better idea for the video would be to have someone impersonate Charlotte Green, the legendary Radio 4 announcer of the period, and omit anything about the PM's/Royal Family's whereabouts. It's also a bit late to suggest gathering resources or building shelters, because realistically a Protect and Survive campaign would have been underway for a while. (I know P&S was a load of bollocks but in any nuclear strike most people would be dead anyway; it was a placebo.)
In short, I think Harvester is condensing too much into a single broadcast here and cheaping out on the voice-over. Someone like Charlotte Green would have been in charge -- she didn't have the very clipped RP voice of broadcasting prior to the 1980s and she would have probably pre-recorded some or all of this message. (Since every prime minister is told to write down what should happen in the event of a nuclear attack when assuming office, it's very likely that the BBC would have made preparations, particularly if they had seen this coming. There is no doubt, unfortunately, that if the Kims launched missiles at us just out of the blue, we'd be a smouldering ruin; KJU was posturing about this in 2017 and holding Guam hostage, but even he backed down -- the chance is that the Kims have a more realistic understanding of what would happen to them if they tried anything on and know full well that the threat of action keeps them in power but actually pulling the trigger would be suicidal. Putin is held back by China being anti-first strike.
So the biggest threat here now comes from posturing being taken further than everyone believes it would, meaning people may well have time to prepare beforehand. It's a great mock-up but I think Harvester does need way more familiarity with the historical context and what can be done after the six minute warning sounds.
They were still right about the plural networks though!
I’ve never found an eas channel that consistently provides unique layouts and ideas while still providing the seriousness of a scenario. You’re one of the best Harvester

read Domain the last rats triology by James Herbert There's short story in it where a loner survives the nuclear attack in his bunker but is trapped with cat that gets in there before it happens. Obviously it doesn't turn out well with cat eventually attacking him in his bed.
He managed to kill it but his stuck with it's decomposing body before he dies himself from asphyxiation from building that collapses on his shelter.
Don't you have a 1960s nuclear attack warning that ends with, "Far out man, what a trip!"?
Hawkwind "Sonic Attack"
This made me think of both that “Nuclear Armageddon” scenario you made some time ago, and also that “That’s no Moon” one. Those were (and still are) some of my favorite scenarios of yours! Amazing work!
Your vids are always done so perfectly. Amazing job Harvester.
Nice! This was realistic enough to be terrifying but also threw in enough extra-but-plausible details to make it seem like even more of a desperate situation.
“God save the Queen and God save us all”

I am NOT a royalist or fan of The Royal Family but they will be in their Nuclear Fallout Shelters maybe days before the Nuclear Attack. But they will have to stay in Thier Nuclear Bunkers for the rest of Thier life's as Buckingham Palace Sandringham Balmoral and all Royal Residences would of been destroyed in the Nuclear Attack. So where would they life. What would they eat once all stockpiled food/water has ran out.
Unfortunately our much loved queen is gone. And now we're stuck with Charles and his concubine masquerading as queen. 😊

"Japanese Jesus" on God I'm dying at that. No but for real your stuff is golden. Love seeing updates from you.
the video abruptly ending without the blast being heard is what makes this 1000% more accurate
Interesting point I’ve only just worked out. These warnings always claim that the roads and transport networks have all been closed for military use only, and then say evacuate.
So, how is one supposed to evacuate when the paths to escape are blocked?
Country roaaads, take me hooooome, to the place. I beloooooong
I think that nuclear strike from DPRK during comrade Kim Il Sung's reign is impossible. Korea had nukes then, yes. But not the means of getting these to any destination, close to UK (I'm speaking about ballistic missiles). Great video, anyways
They had Russian support. Russia owns the most nukes on the planet.
Some people love their fear. Some people have nightmares of comrade Kim-Jong-Un hiding under their bed with a big red button.
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficialRussia was in shambles and couldn't even pay its own workers. I actually saw it towards the end of this period about a year before Putin took office and knocked some important heads together which made life substantially better for individual Russians in the 21st century -- it was a total basket case. Yeltsin was at war with his own parliament in 1993 and then bogged down in Chechnya. I went back in 2016 and St Petersburg was literally unrecognisable from where it had been in 1997-98.
The devastation in Korea at the same time was worse -- the collapse of the USSR created a domino effect that didn't topple regimes in Cuba and the DPRK, but destroyed the economies that had depended on them. Others who were suckling at Moscow's teat such as Vietnam were able to open up their economies to compensate, but the stubborn communists ended up isolated and, in the DPRK's case, starving.
Russia may have re-emerged as a super-power, but even now at the height of New Cold War tensions, China is standing firm on a No First Strike doctrine and Putin needs Xi Jumping as an ally. 5:32 The use of nukes is still a great taboo as everyone knows what will happen, even if they are nihilists like Putin. Mutually Assured Destruction still operates, in a very negative way for conventional conflicts (no-one can get involved in Ukraine directly without a confrontation) and eastern Europe in general in the short term of Putin's lifespan, but it still exists as a threat.
That was the best speech of stability I have heard. The best quote was "wooooooooowooooooowooooooowooooowoooooowooooo". I'm so inspired.
Love me some 90s and naughties EAS. Keep up the good work!
This is 90s remaster of the original 80s one. Good work
*Omg I came running with the notification thinking it was Rebuild 😅*
I really like how you added the tracking effect on the video, as if this was recorded on an old VHS tape.
Perhaps precede the video with a note that it isn't actually a 1990s BBC emergency broadcast video? Takes a little while for the penny to drop. Evidently many people will think it is real, as shown in the comments. I'm surprised the BBC are not interested in pursuing this as the video's status as parody is not clearly obvious.
Of all the days this video could be randomly recommended to me…
There is a typo at 2:44 it says one the attack instead of once the attack
EAS: If you have any pets, release or euthanise them.

Well a Nuke attack would be nothing like this, we would have anywhere between 2 and 20 mins after the notification (IF we even get a notification), it would probably say something like "Go indoors, stay indoors, stay away from windows. Further information will be provided shortly." But let's hope and pray we never have to find out
This is-
This is kinda sadder than scary now-
Its both
Yk what scares me about BBC:
How at the end of every hour they do a 30 second countdown to the next hour, like it puts me into thinking it’s a countdown until a nuclear bomb, it was the same at New Year’s Eve going into this year, the broadcast we were watching had litteraly the spookiest robotic voice countdown, my cousin agreed it was kinda scary lol.
BBC has interrupted normal programming, Ive never seen this but honestly at that pointing I’m making myself a fallout shelter like I know this sis-
From here an on are things harvester has done:
Harvester when u put the calmest most upbeat music during we’re grabbing information in “That’s No moon”. I honestly wanted to get up and vibe, if it was real and that music was real, at this point i’d forget the world is ending in 9 minutes and instead enjoy my final dance party.
The fact that Harvester put the English national anthem at the end, honestly would u want to die to ur national anthem? I’d rather die to earrape then my own national anthem because it’s just like they want us to remember our country? WHY, WE WILL BE DEAD, how are we going to remember England if we’re dead, like sis we’re just corpses
How fast they grab information, that gotta take like more than 30 seconds unless y’all are the flash or something.
THe PubLic ARe AdviSed To Be Calm- you just announced a god damn nuclear strike and ur telling us to be calm, Hell no are we gonna be calm we’re most likely going to die, don’t tell me I’m gonna die in peace I’m really not we’re just wiping out an entire country here sis
Go to the most central part in your house with no windows or doors, ok sis where? The only central part of my house is the hallway and that’s got basically everything you stated, windows, doors the whole shabang where am I gonna go girlie.
OH AND THIS IS A FUN FACT ABT CNN
Apparently they recorded a END OF THE WORLD eas broadcast in the 1990’s and they have it prepared for the end of the world. The fact there is an existing black hole (dw it’s like 5 million light years away, it does travel at 1mil KM p he) means god knows when CNN will be broadcasting this, and also why does this exist, did people think the world was gonna end lol.
Being calm in a crisis is what leads to the best results. Even if you're all doomed, keeping busy and focused on preparing for a strike would ensure people don't cause extra problems in the throes of panic. In fire safety, it seems counterintuitive, but if you just run about aimlessly when the alarm goes off, you can create an obstruction, injure yourself and need others to divert precious resources away from actually helping control the fire itself, and have an impact on others' ability to evacuate. When you're in a crisis, you need steady leadership and ice-cold focus -- this is why pilots are trained to be calm during problems in the cockpit because if they can do their job they might mitigate the impact of or even avoid disaster. No, government advice was not conducive to survival, and when their plans for atomic conflict were leaked and films like Threads and The Day After were made, people got through to governments in the West that the best way to survive nuclear war was to avoid it in the first place. (The Day After convinced Reagan to pick up the phone and talk to Gorbachev in the 1980s.) But if there's no way out of immediate danger, you need to have someone in control who knows what to do and people who understand that it's not in their own best interests to panic or act recklessly. Sure, some will, but they will be the ones who either get hurt or cause others to get hurt.
The BBC in the UK doesn't use countdowns for all its hourly broadcasts -- that's just the opening to the news.
As for broadcasters, alas, most of them have pre-recorded plans for national emergencies like this one. The Queen's death was ready to go a long time before she actually died, and so they weren't simply starting from scratch when it happened a few years ago. They also have specific slides handy for idents when there's a crisis -- you don't want a zany Doctor Who trailer preceding a nuclear strike.
Broadcasters are careful entities. They can either provoke or damp down mass panic. They need to be jolly careful what they say when. Which brings me back to the points I made earlier -- people with training in these matters know crowd psychology better than us randos on the Internet.
Apocalypse season comes again, friends. Keep your radios charged and await further instructions…
Hell yeah, I love your EAS videos, always delighted for some delicious horror chills
3:30 - The idea that nuclear missiles would have reached Britain if they had been launched by North Korea is ridiculous because no nuclear missile has the capacity to travel that far!
About the pet thing, no, I have over 327 (yes I counted) things of cat food plus water
Our relationship with the Soviet Union /Russia in the 1990s was the best it had ever been so the risk of a nuclear war was the lowest it had ever been back then.
You couldn't say that now with Russia.
These are incredibly chilling.
For anyone that was interested by this, you should watch the 1984 film Threads.
In Threads first strike was an EMP that wiped out all power annd communications in Western Europe, before even first bomb hit. Your last moments before your death would be without any electricty in dark..

fun fact: there was actually a infomercial made about a possible nuclear strike in the UK in around the 1970s
And this was kept secret from me...
this is really good! So realistic!
So we had a Nuclear strike by the Soviet Union in the 1980s, I'd hedge my bets on presumably 1983, when the Soviets were a hair's breath away from actually launching a missile due to a malfunction
Now we have a nuclear strike in 1995 due to a looney despot in North Korea
What could a 2000s doomsday scenario look like? Assuming it's post 9/11, possibly Al-Qaeda? Maybe a Chinese or Russian WMD supplied and detonated in London as retaliation for the Iraqi Campaign? There's several different ideas I could think of. Perhaps a sequel to the already existing scenario Harvester already made?
Judging by that map North Korea would have missed Leeds by about 50 miles.
I’d sacrifice myself if it meant my pet rabbit survived tbh
It's interesting that you mentioned 1995 in the description, because I thought you'd be referencing the Black Brant rocket incident, in which Yeltsin almost "pressed the button."
