There are few things that I am jealous about other countries.
1. Croatia and Greece for their islands
2. Some countries for big rivers like Danube or Amazon
3. Czech Republic for its anthem

Bigger? Both ancient nations became independent nation-states in 1918 in the aftermath of WWI. As WWII approached both nations remained exemplary democracies while their neighbors succumbed to dictatorial regimes.

@@DavidJGillCA I know, your comment is already 1 year old but Czechia was founded in 895. In 1806 it was incorporated in the Austrian Empire and in 1918 it gained it is independence again.

The statehood day is commemorating the anniversary of the assassination of our patron St Wenceslaus (from the "Good King Wenceslaus" carol) in 929 or 935 by his brother Boleslaus the Cruel (he was very young, born around 907). Czechs are almost entirely atheists so St Wenceslaus means virtually nothing to the nation today - which is why Catholics in other countries should do the celebration of the only Czech global-Catholic-calender-listed saint. ;-)
Wenceslaus did lots of good things for the poor, for the church, against the paganism, and so on. It was an era in which the future kingdom was emerging rather clearly. Half a century after the orthodox missionaries Cyril and Methodius came here from the Balkans in 863 and brought Eastern Christianity plus scripture, it was pretty clear that we would be incorporated to the Western Catholic space instead, and Duke Wenceslaus himself was among the first ones who clearly articulated that the Czechs had to find their future in a peaceful coexistence with the stronger German tribes and/or nations.

Im from Hungary, my partner is Moravian :) and together with him I fell in love with the country, language and this lovely anthem too. I don’t speak Czech but I’ve learned the anthem. There’s no other feeling like singing it together with the people of this nation ❤ much love!

Beautiful - and the orchestral version with a choir and soloists is great. and the photography is amazing too nature and architecture both - the song gives goosebumps.

I love the country and music,particularly the opera. I visit as often as possible. First visit in 1973! last visit April 2014. The music is so distinctive and beautiful. The anthem is just the same. The language is tricky. The appearance of Vaclav Havel at the Prague spring festival concert in 1990 during the Libuse fanfare before Ma Vlast is extremely moving. Tears to my eyes.I feel an honorary Czech.

Československo se rozpadlo již 1. 1. 1993, národní hrdost se bohužel vytrácí,... jsme pouze malou a bezvýznamnou zemí, na které moc lidem nezáleží.

It makes today 2 years since I moved to the amazing city of Prague in this wonderful country and I couldn't be more happy with my decision: everything is a pearl like this anthem!
Obožavam ovu zemľu i ľude u ňoj; taj prekrasni jezik i tu vrhunsku kulturu i humor, ňenu kňiževnost i film, glazbu i spor. A hokejaše... Finale u Naganu slušao sam do zore na Českom rozhlásu 1 i plakao od srěće, radujući se kao i svi u Češkoj, od Cheba do Olomouca. Vesela i srětna bila, zemľo draga!
Srdcervoucí komentář, za který děkuji, jistě i jménem mnoha Čechů. A vylepšení v Gájově abecedě, jako například Ě a Ň, je něco, co mi nemohlo uniknout. Proč zrovna třeba Ň pan Gáj zrušil? 😂 Ě je citlivě napsané skutečně panslovanské písmenko. Snad to jednou pochopí desetimiliony.

I got goosebumps. In my opinion together with the Canadian Anthem the most beautiful national anthem known to me. And this summer I'll have the privilige to go visit the country myself again after a long time. I'm so thrilled. I'm going with a Czech friend and his wife now living in Sweden where I live too. Prague is a nice place to live (I lived there for 5 years, college). Full of life, different types of architecture, everything is there. It's pretty expensive these days but suburbs may be cheap, too.
Czech is too difficult for one short comment, especially the declination etc. Pronunciation of the written text is very systematic and fully learnable in an hour.

Cool. Lots of Czechoslovak pilots were flying with Spitfires in the Royal Air Force. Search for "dark blue world" on UA-cam to get at least a trailer about a romantic movie on them. Spitfires actually appear in the movie, too.

I am spending most Sundays and some other days in the Bavarian Forest, in some anti-Sudetenland of a sort. ;-) The latest hike was to Hoher Bogen, a fun civilized unprotected isolated long hill on the periphery of Schummau. For some time, I couldn't understand why I remembered the name of the TV transmission tower from the 1980s so well. We could watch ARD, ZDF, BR-MCHN in Pilsen but the programs don't show the names of transmission towers, do they? And my mother remembered it was something with TV, too. How does she, with her not so healthy mind, also get it, almost? After many days, I suddenly had the heureka moment which made me laugh. The name Hoher Bogen was on the damn monoscope which was shown at least on one channel every damn day after and before the program. ;-) So the hike went from Furth im Wald to Neukirchen near the Holy Blood, it is called in this way because Hussites once decapitated a madonna of Loučim there, and the blood started to sprinkle from the statue! The superclean and polished houses in a town like Neukirchen is refreshing in comparison with the typical Czech villages which are still half-full of ruins.
