  • There are people in your life right now who are speaking in the tongues of demons and they don't even realize it, and it's possible that you are too. What does it mean to speak in the tongues of demons, and how do we stop it from happening?
We want to challenge you to dig deeper into God's Word, and help you to remove your lens of interpretation, so you can let the Bible interpret itself. We are a Christian ministry that believes and teaches the whole Bible. We want to be like the noble Bereans who studied the Scriptures daily to know the truth.
Our Vision is that people will learn to let the Bible interpret itself.
Our Mission is to cause people to dig deeper into the truth of God’s Word.
We Value the Truth of God as it is revealed through the Holy Scriptures.

Gossip surrounds me at my workplace. I’m guilty of taking part in it to an extent by passing it along. Lately, though, I’ve been trying my best to ignore it. When someone makes me annoyed or angry, I try to let it slide off my shoulders. It’s extremely difficult, especially if you tend to take things personally like I do.

This method is amazing for a normal person. But if the person is a skilled covert narcissist, confronting them, even with others present always backfires. They are brilliant at twisting things around so that the accuser looks like the "bad guy". I know this is a rare phenomenon, but it's what came to mind because I've experienced it myself. And unfortunately not many have the wisdom or discernment to spot it when it happens. In this case I'm trying to learn to just keep my mouth shut and pray for protection for everyone involved. I don't know what else I could do.

She said, will let it out and let it go....I said huh? Yes just go off! I said nothing and just did what she asked cause she was a visitor in our congregation gathering in that time. So I years later was to fearful to ask God, but when I did he Answered....the mouth babbling she was talking about was not tongues..... I was afraid that I'd be wrong because of what "CHURCH" taught me. I said I must serve GOD and Jesus, so I looked in to the word of GOD, and HE showed me the way, that Babbling was not of GOD, it was of the enemy, GOD showed me in HIS HOLY SPIRIT, (THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE) and I understood. And I have been taught by the SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD EVER SINCE THAT REVELATION AND OTHER PARTS OF THE BIBLE THAT I NEVER UNDERSTOOD finally make since, but Listen, ONLY THROUGH GOD SPIRIT CAN YOU UNDERSTAND GOD..... AND THROUGH HIS SON I FOUND A WAY.......But You WILL receive POWER, when the HOLY SPIRIT comes upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem and all Judea, and Samaria and even to the end of the earth....YESHUA/JESUS HA/THE MESHIAC/CHRIST

There is absolutely nothing mysterious about Biblical "tongues" - when referring to something spoken, they are nothing more than real, rational language(s); usually unknown to those listening to them, but always known by the speaker(s) - it’s their native language (in some cases, it is a language the speaker has learned).
In contrast, the “tongues” Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians are producing today is an entirely self-created phenomenon. It is non-cognitive non-language utterance; random free vocalization based upon a subset of the existing underlying sounds (called phonemes) of the speaker’s native language, and any other language(s) the speaker may be familiar with or have had contact with.
It is, in part, typically characterized by repetitive syllables, plays on sound patterns, alliteration, assonance, and over-simplification of syllable structure. It is also interesting to note that any disallowed sound combinations, i.e. consonant clusters, in the speaker’s native language are also disallowed in his/her tongues-speech. Further, this subset of phonemes typically contains only those sounds which are easiest to produce physiologically.
There is absolutely _nothing_ that “tongues-speakers” are producing that cannot be explained in relatively simple linguistic terms.
Conversely, when it comes to something spoken, there are absolutely *no* Biblical references to “tongues” that do not refer to, and cannot be explained in light of, real rational language(s), though it may not be the explanation you want to hear, and it may be one which is radically different from what you believe, or were taught. Nowhere in the Bible is modern tongues-speech advocated or evidenced.
“Praying in the Spirit” does _not_ refer to the words one is saying. Rather, it refers to how one is praying. In the three places it is used (Corinthians, Ephesians, and Jude), there is absolutely zero reference to 'languages' in connection with this phrase. “Praying in the Spirit” should be understood as praying in the power of the Spirit, by the leading of the Spirit, and according to His will. In Pentecostal/Charismatic parlance however, the phase has come to be equated with modern “tongues”, i.e. when one “prays in the Spirit”, it signifies that one is typically engaged in some form of tongues-speech.
The word “tongue(s)” itself is simply a more archaic word for (real) “language(s)”, nothing more. Replace “tongue(s)” with “language(s)” in these various passages and the whole modern Pentecostal/Charismatic concept of “tongues” begins to become difficult to posit - “language(s)” sounds a lot less mysterious, and in many cases, adds more clarity to the text. Again, in Pentecostal/Charismatic parlance however, the word has come to be equated with the modern concept of “tongues-speech”.
Most people who use ‘tongues’ are very keen on describing the ‘experience’. Indeed, for those that use it, it is very psychologically, physically, and spiritually fulfilling. It’s almost like primal screaming. When people practice ‘tongues’, they feel a sense of sweet release and inner peace, in that virtually all stress can be gone after the experience.
People describe the experience, but in examining the “mechanics” behind it…well, not so much. When a person has experienced tongues, s/he is absolutely convinced as to the ‘scripturalness’ of his/her experience, and the correctness of his/her doctrinal beliefs - this, despite the overwhelming scriptural absence of anything remotely akin to what they’re doing.
I'm not doubting or questioning the 'experience'; as mentioned, glossolalia as the spiritual tool that it is, can be very powerful and, for many people, the experience is profound. As one commenter put it, “Speaking in tongues distracts the ego/analytical/conscious mind while leaving the subconscious (the heart) wide open to import the divine." Both the spiritual and physical benefits of using this tool are also well documented. Again though, it is important to note that this same statement can be made for virtually _any_ other culture that practices glossolalia. Religious and cultural differences aside, the glossolalia an Evenki Shaman in Siberia, a vodoun priestess in Togo and a Christian tongues-speaker in Alabama are producing are in no way different from each other. They’re all producing their glossolalia in the exact same way; they just have different explanations and beliefs as to why they’re doing it, and where it comes from.
“Tongues” is to some Christian believers a very real and spiritually meaningful experience but consisting of emotional release via non-linguistic ‘free vocalizations’ at best; non-cognitive non language utterance - the subconscious playing with sounds to create what is perceived and interpreted as actual, meaningful speech. “In _some_ cases, I would argue that it is clearly a self/mass delusion prompted by such a strong desire to “experience God” that one creates that experience via “tongues”. Indeed, as one writer puts it: “You want this to be real. You’ve convinced yourself it’s real. You’re improvising the sounds, but there is nothing about what you’re doing that cannot be explained in natural terms. The only reason it sounds like a language is that you want it to sound like a language. But it’s not.”
Known by many different names, “tongues”, “glossolalia”, or more accurately “non-cognitive non-language utterance” (NC-NLU), is practiced by many cultures and religious beliefs from literally all over the world; it is relatively new to Christianity and certainly not unique to it.
As a point of note, I’m a Linguist, and let me also add here that I am neither a so-called ‘cessationist’ nor a ‘continuationist’ - I do not identify with either term; in fact, I had never heard the two terms until just late in 2016. As far as I’m concerned, quite frankly, since the Biblical reference of “tongues” is to real, rational languages, obviously “tongues” haven’t “ceased”; as far as I’ve been able to ascertain, people still speak.

Quite the story. what the Bible says contradicts everything you pulled out of context and into your own interpretations . But good attempt at interpreting. You miss context when you cherry pick scripture.
Many religious and phrases like scholars today love to toe the yoke of Moses into the yoke of Christ creating the Christ that fits their doctrine.
But I’m the book of Acts and throughout history we see something much different and true. The gift of a heavenly language (tongues) is a real thing and denying that is denying the gifts and mysteries of the Holy Spirit putting Christ into a box of your laws.
Completely contradicting the apostles and Christ.
You guys have to stop reading the Bible so proudly. So much head knowledge and no spirit.

Actually, it's the early Pentecostal church who completely redefined their tongues doctrine at some point between 1906 and 1907. I have pulled absolutely zero out of context. Modern tongues is what it is - non-cognitive non-language utterance; a completely self-created phenomenon. Nowhere in the Bible is what tongues-speakers are producing today advocated or evidenced.

@@kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 actually, your entire statement is out of context and false. You are saying things that are not true. Tongues are not native languages. Paul, the Apostle, states that when someone speaks in tongues, they are not speaking unto men, but unto God, because no man understands them, howbeit, in the spirit he is speaking mysteries. It is the tongue of angels according to the bible, which you obviously do not believe in. No doubt tongues are misused among charismatics and pentecostals, I know for a fact that much of what is being done in those churches is false. But you shouldn't reject truth because many are using it falsely. Speaking in tongues is a gift and a teaching of scripture that should not be despised. It is not where taught in scripture that it is a human language, that is only being taught in the apostate churches. Jesus himself even taught that tongues would be a sign of a believer. We live in an age in which believers have no signs following them.

1Cor. 14:2 is perhaps *the* quintessential verse used by many to “evidence” modern tongues-speech in the Bible.
Let’s paraphrase this verse into a more modern English.
To do this, you need to get rid of the added “unknown”, use a more accurate translation from the Greek, and a more modern rendering of the archaic “tongue” -
Once done, we have something more like this -
“He that speaks in a language isn’t speaking to others, but only to God; no one hears [him] with understanding; nevertheless, though he’s praying in the Spirit, he’s speaking mysteries.”
The whole passage is talking about real, rational language.
Let me use an analogy - If I attend a worship service in “East Haystack”, some remote town in the US out in the middle of nowhere, two things are going to be evident: one; there’s only going to be so many people at that service (i.e. there will be a finite given amount of people there) and two; the chances that anyone speaks anything *but* English is pretty slim to nil.
If I start praying aloud in say Lithuanian, there’s no one at that service that’s going to understand a single word I’m saying. Even though I’m speaking a real language, no one _there_ will understand my “tongue”. That does not mean or imply that no one else understands Lithuanian; just no one at _that particular service._
In this sense, therefore, I am speaking _only to God,_ since he understands all languages. To everyone at the service, even though I’m praying in the Spirit (as defined in my original post), to the people listening to me, I’m still speaking “mysteries” - i.e. even though I’m praying as I ought, no one understands me; no one has a clue what I’m saying as no one speaks my language.
When one looks at the original Greek, the verb which is usually translated as “understandeth/understands” is actually the verb “to hear” in the sense of understanding what you’re hearing someone say. The verb is *not* “to understand”. That part of the verse is more properly “no one hears [him] with understanding”, i.e. no one listening to him understands what he’s saying.
There is _nothing_ in this passage that suggests modern tongues-speech nor is there anything that even _remotely_ suggests that the speaker does not understand what he himself is saying. The Greek bears this out; it is the _listeners_ who do not understand, *not* the speaker - no matter how hard modern tongues-speakers want the speaker to also not understand…….it just isn’t there.
“Tongues of angels” is frequently used as a vehicle to posit ‘angelic speech’. That entire phrase, as well as a few others in that particular part of Paul’s letter, is 100% pure textbook hyperbole no matter how one wishes to slice and dice it. There’s just no getting around that. In all instances of angels speaking, it has always been in a real, rational language. In fact, in traditional Jewish belief, angels can only speak and understand one language; specifically, the sacred/sacerdotal language of Judaism, Hebrew. Paul, being a Jew, would have known this, which lends further support for his intentional use of hyperbole.
With respect to Mark 16:17 - when people went out to spread the message of Christianity, they encountered peoples, customs, and moreover languages they had hitherto not known even existed. Thus, they would need to speak with “new languages” - they would need to learn them in order to spread the message. The passage refers to nothing more than real, rational languages. If one were to hear someone say, “I’m going to start speaking a new language.” I don’t think anyone would assume it was anything else than a real, rational language.
The point is, that it’s a new language to the one(s) learning it, not to the people who already speak it. The entire passage is rather moot anyway since it is a later addition to the text (early 2nd century).
Again, when referring to something spoken, there are no Biblical references to "tongues" that do not refer to real, rational language(s).

@Steven Backus agreed. And all that know this, God has shown through HIS HOLY SPIRIT. I am talking about a person that came saying show me the fruits of the SPIRIT? And this person had the right attitude but that was not a message from GOD to me. That was a message from the Advisary showing me I was a baby and not a grown man rooted in his word. All the Kingdoms of this world, have become the kingdoms of our Lord and His Christ, and HE SHALL Reign forever and ever.......REVELATION 11:15 I to know the word of GOD. But it is nothing and has no power if I don't live it in my life, or apply it to learn and grow. Many are called, few are chosen.....we can throw Bible versus all day at each other. I will not disrespect GOD'S HOLY Word because I think I know more then the next person, we have to show our fruits To GOD, not to the next person, show your self approved is to walk the walk and mean what you say before a HOLY GOD...... For it is HIM alone that has said through HIS PROPHET JOHN/YOCHANON: EVEN NOW THE AXE IS LAID TO THE ROOT, EVERY TREE THAT DOES NOT BEAR GOOD FRUIT IS CUT DOWN AND THROWN INTO THE FIRE. My narrative was for The person hosting the show. And we will truly see who is on the LORD'S side when the End Comes.....believe me when I say this to you, since you texted me.....in all respect, BIBLE VERSUS AND PRAYER ARE NOT GONNA BE ENOUGH TO STOP THE DEVIL, IF YOU FACED HIM RIGHT NOW, HE WOULD TARE YOU LIMB FROM LIMB. SO NOT JUST BIBLE VERSUS ARE GONNA BE ENOUGH, ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THEN WORDS. AND WE SHALL SEE IN THE END. When you are worshipping God in tongues, there is a chance that it is actually a mockery against God and is even blaphemy against God. When you speak in blaphemy, do you think God will be with you?
