I purchased one of your high wire pieds at Tinley this year. He’s stunning but what I love most is his amazing temperament. Fabulous for handling. This is why I was so excited to get a NERD snake. Not just quality genetics but quality handling and care.
I grew up on a ranch and farm around a lot of different animals as well I've always had reptiles and Kevin is 100% correct, confidence is paramount when handling most animals. Not just confidence in yourself but confidence in the needs and behaviors of each individual animal you are in charge of the care for. That being said Kevin is a naturally gifted person when it comes to animals, I'm not taking away from the many years of experience and hard work just stating an observation as someone who has been around animals my entire life. One can learn vast amounts of amazing information from Kevin so pay attention if you want to get better at handling your animals. The only other person I've seen who is as gifted as Kevin was Steve Irwin, he had that ability to calm animals down as well.
It is so amazing that Kevin mentioned people who are really good with horses. I was just comparing Kevin's abilities with snakes with some peoples abilities with horses. I am a firm believer that some people are just born with the skill of understanding certain animals. I think most people can learn, but some people are just innately gifted. My mom is one of those horse people who just understands them. She loves horses & she has been around them her whole life, teaching kids how to ride & take care of their horses. Its like the horse is talking to her, she just understands their body language & she can read them very accurately, kind of like how Kevin can understand the snake's body language. Kevin is innately gifted with snakes. I was not gifted with the art of understanding animals like that. So I think it is really cool to learn from people who do. I suppose, house cats really like me? XD Edit: Here is a link on UA-cam to a channel called ":Think Like a Horse". Not gonna lie I find the dude kind of insufferable at times, but there is no denying that he truly understands horses & horse body language. I watch sometimes just because it amazes me how much information he gets from horses second by second. ua-cam.com/video/WMrVqe5J2aM/v-deo.html
Great vid guys, back in 2005 when I was at nerd kevin and andy tought me that very trick of turning and elevating defensive retics above your head. We as the handler have so much involvement in the overall experience between us and snake!
I think what you were referring to in terms of magic is the difference between experience and skill. People can do something repetitively and get it done but never truly do it the "perfect" way so no matter how many times they do it they are still just doing an average job. Those with magic take something new from every single time they do something, whether it's something they did wrong, something they improved or something that may work better next time it's a constant learning process. That's where the magic comes in, getting into the minutiae of whatever it is you're doing. I love these videos, it's great to see Kevin in teacher mode and you can tell by how the guys react to him (particularly Giani) that they are grateful to have tuition from someone with magic. Also, Moo is absolutely gorgeous! More videos like this please!
@@NewEnglandReptile absolutely. The worst kind of person is the one that thinks they have nothing left to learn. I love these videos because even though I have never owned a snake I am starting to see little bits of what Kevin is talking about in the animals in your videos and others and am able to connect the body language/behaviour to the reason for the behaviour. It really is fascinating. I think I'm jealous, can I have Giani's job? 😂
Very well done Kevin and Donny! I see a lot of connections between managing retic's and managing human relationships...whether we respond defensively has a great deal to do with what attitude and approach is shown to us, too. It's fun to watch and we get to learn something.
A massive amount of awesome information, as usual. Initially I thought the video was a bit 'clunky' but then I realised Donny must've been using his new gimbal setup so that'll improve once he's got that shit figured out. I actually started utilising the twirling technique a few months back with my carpet python cos she's very reactive and super food responsive. It's surprising just how much she calms down.
I like that you guys stay educational an have fun and this whole putting everything in lime light is awesome ive noticed lately theres alot other retic breeders right now on social media that have alot negative attention. You guys keep kickin ass an more videos Kevin really shows his luv an knowledge !!!!! An well being of animals ive changed my set ups how im handling for retics that both helps them an me its definately a postive working relationship. I learn tons here guys an see genuine appreciation for animals keep it up.
I would love to see you and Brian go on that big trip to either Africa or Australia. The two of you would be comincal and educational at same time. Plus you get to go on a really cool adventure. I also think it would be really cool for you to release an educational video from start to finish on how to socialize specific hard to train reptiles such as retics, monitors, tree boas and so on. I think it would make a killing in the reptile community not only with the breeders but with pet owners. I have heard a few pet tubers like Nolan mention you and your methods of socializing monitors. Just a thought. I know that I would purchase it. As always I learned something new from you today!!! Keep them coming Evil Morph God, we love you!!!!!!
I would love to see more videos of Kevin handling these reactive snakes. I don't have the benefit of learning directly from the master, so video is all I have, and the more I see of the snake's body language that Kevin is responding to, the more I can learn from him.
Not only do I like, not only do I subscribe, but Kevin, my man, you make everyday better. Thank you for always being a pick me up. Entertaining, educational, and always relevant.
Kev's dancing with his sna-akes OH OH he's dancing with his sna-akes! He's spinnin' with retics, and showin' his skills, yes he's dancin' with his sna-akes OH OH OH OH!!!
I love when Kevin does videos on his own they are my favorite.him with monitors are the best.dumb Donny is OK but I prefer Kevin on his own he is why we all watch 👍
I love these kind of videos. I have learned so much by watching and listening to Kevin’s handling techniques. I try to use this with my defensive white lipped python. When i have positive interactions with her it’s one of the best feelings, so I can’t thank you enough. Will Moo teach that female to calm down? It makes sense that Moo’s calm energy would help to calm her?
Great video. Showing how to handle a snake that is unsure is very educational. Donny needs to do a video of clips with all of you doing the snake twist dance. G got the magik 👏🏻👏🏻😂
Great vid. I loved watching Kevin teach him how to hold that retic. I learned a lot from this video. Now I'm even more stoked to get a retic. Still a year out though.
I've got a 2 year old retic I got from a friend that's couldn't take care of her and I've been using some of your tips I see on your videos to help and now she's calmed dow a little. Thank you for all the advice you give everyone on handling these big beautiful animals. I'd love to come visite your shop sometime
I absolutely loved this video! The teacher's method of giving important information in the form of details that I have never heard but could see is fantastic. I loved how calm and encouraging he is towards his student and would appreciate it if I could get his contact. I do have an special connection with all types of snakes. Unfortunately in my country we are not allowed to interact with any (I do support this law to an extent.) Last Sunday I went to my very first ReptCon, and I was in heaven. I held Pythons the whole day and learned so much! Thank you for the work you do!
Kevin mccurley the reptile whisperer. I swear this man is a legend when it comes to reptiles nobody and I mean nobody does it better than this man right here. Kevin the evil morph god who btw doesnt have an evil bone in his body lol we are so fortunate yo have him backing our community especially here in New Hampshire.
my idol at work!!!! I think empathy takes a huge part in your handling ability. personal opinion but I've found being an empath makes me a pretty good animal handler and i pick up the tiniest changes in mood in time to avoid bites or extra stress on the animal. cant wait to visit your facility someday
My Piebald retic was a terror when I first got her, ‘touch me you die’, ’get near me you die’ and ’you’re looking at me, come closer you die’, it took a couple of months for her to stop with the biting and pissing everywhere when picking her up, but well with sticking with working with her. I definitely didn’t want that attitude when she gets big enough to cause some pain and damage to me.
I love watching NERD. It is amazing the amount of knowledge Kevin has about so many different animals. It makes me second guess my career choices and wish I had gone into animals in some sort of capacity. Love it!
I actually love your channel. Behavior reading, and taking your own brain into theirs to figure out the surround world how they do, is the key of wildlife animal understanding. And, you nicely spread the rules. Great job.
I love this so much, it shows the fact that they aren’t just reactive, wild, attacking machines, they have emotion and thought and meaning and when you take the time to understand and really appreciate the animal there is this sort symbiotic relationship of curiosity, knowledge and reverence and when you have that, you have the magick 💕🧡💛💕🧡💛
Being connected and reading the animal is crucial. Curious as to whether you guys always have more than one person in room when handling the large retics? Fascinating to watch Kevin’s ability to connect w animals...what a cool life!!
I have a large Burmese that my wife is scared of and I've been showing her your handling and understanding large snake videos and honestly she's significantly more confident around her now!
I Love love love watching Kevin handle the more defensive retic's! He's absolutely AMAZING 😍. I've learned so much from this channel and 1softkiss it's unbelievable.
Hi Kevin You are right about telling what kind of mood an animal. I used to work at a vet's clinic. I worked in the back, and I took care of the animals. So I had to learn their moods, so i did not get bitten by dogs, or cats. A snake came in that was badly bitten by a rat. No one wanted to touch it, so i handled it, and treated it's wounds. I like snakes, and it was healed. Cindy
Kevin, you are truly a master. Simply incredible to watch. Thank you so much for the chance to witness magic. The allegory with horses (my specialty!) it really clicked and I can confidently agree what you do is incredible magic. Simply incredible
I love seeing Kevin’s gentle approach with these lovely creatures. I feel like so many people sling them around like a yo-yo and it makes me sad. Also, Moo is adorable 😍
Kevin is slow and easy handling all animals. The gift he has is to be admired. Don't got nothing but 3 cats but I use to have a special gift with Roosters.!!
Your videos of handling large pied retics are the only ones I've seen that don't turn into sort of a clusterf***. Would love to see little vignettes/a series of brief videos of your work socializing baby pied retics over time. Maybe just include them within longer videos?
My pied tiger het albino has such a great temperament, but he is also very young. I'll just continue to work with him, and expect that he will continue to be an amazing animal! Thank you for the great content!
I’ve owned several horses and LOVE them!!! I was watching him handle the snake and was thinking that it was just like reading and owning a horse and then he said it and I was like 😃😃
For half a second I was like omg two snakes one cage omg how dare they!!! And then I remembered I dont know shit and these guys love their animals and care more about them than they would ever give a shit about the words I type. So then I wrote this comment instead. Thank you for all you're doing for my rights as a reptile keeper. Thanks for the education I've received from you guys and gals. Youre awesome.
As always love the video and ima try the dancing twirl with my retic cuz he loves to come back like that pied was doing hes from you guys and it's a golden child motley
I think pie BP are more nervous snakes too I think it’s something to do with the pie. My pie is always nervous acting he use to hiss and strike constantly but I been working with him and he seems a little better but he still has that defense pose all the time. Now my Ivory is soo sweet. I really just think it is the pie gene.
These videos are wonderful. Create a sketchy experience and you will receive an equally sketchy response from these animals. Animals generally feed off of the energy and confidence or lack of confidence you exhibit.
i have a pied retic still young and under 5ft i work with it not being head shy or being tail shy but i love the different personality between my 2 pieds
3rd to comment lol this is gonna be another great one. Wow this was a good one. My retic is still small but i soend hours a week handling her getting her used to human interaction. And will continue to in order to keep her docile. Great video!!
Hey Kevin I’m getting my first snake. Making sure to do it the right way and taking my time to get the proper enclosure before buying and hope to teach my parents to respect not fear them.
I have 2 kids that are like that with horses … things just flow and just naturally read them. My daughter halter broke a stud colt that her husband had problems with from day one.
This man is amazing! Kevin is just full of knowledge! Watch some one like Brian and think oh this guy is great, then you watch Kevin and think Brian Should take lessons from him!
I own a very primitive breed of dog, Peruvian Hairless. My girls are grande, large sized example of the breed. They are like dealing with a monkey or a large cat I tell new people. Eye contact is a major no no when introducing new people. One of the only people I've ever seen do things right, read their body language and verbal ques was a horse breeder. I'd like to see Kevin's reactions with one of my girls, see if he's got the empathy needed to deal with them. You down Kevin ? I'm a truck driver, I'd love to swing through and introduce you to a dog you've probably only seen on video.
Your Mother should of swallowed yes I know a few things about dogs. No eye contact don’t act like you see them let them investigate you smell you and act confident until dog decides you are ok.
I had a Burmese python act same way but not near as fast I miss all my reptiles I learned so much with hands on experience and the care sheets they give on net . Use to get the from kingsnake but ummm Yeah you make the best points dude
Got a question.... New to owning retic's... got a 2 week old baby retic atm, Just had its first meal... the question is: My retic is a 25% dwarf retic...... Does that mean, Its a drawf retic that will only grow to around 25% of their usual size? Or does that mean, its only 25% dwarf, 75% normal, therefor, will grow to around 75% of the usual size of a retic?!?! I ask because, My baby retic... Is very small... Smaller than the baby retic shown in this video at 2:05... cheers
My rat snake is still reactive but when I first got him. Holy crap if you moved on the other side of the room he legit would flick his head in your direction and death stare. He has gotten better but he has bit my 2 roommates and a old roommate. But he still hasn't bit me (yet) in 4 years
Love when Kevin’s no shy and actually wants to do videos, I can listen to his knowledge and him just talk about this shit for hours and hours,
I purchased one of your high wire pieds at Tinley this year. He’s stunning but what I love most is his amazing temperament. Fabulous for handling. This is why I was so excited to get a NERD snake. Not just quality genetics but quality handling and care.

Pied relics are absolutely beautiful. So much potential once we can breed some well socialized animals and get those into the industry!
Just seeing this now. As usual, I can't even put into words how helpful this information is. Kevin is as real as it gets.
Man. I really liked this one. I just like the more raw and uncut type videos. I know u still edited alot but I still liked this one

Kevin is amazing, a true snake whisperer . I really enjoy seeing him work with the animals.
Moo's bright yellow head is gorgeous! I like the little baby you took out too! You do really well at reading their body language!
Kevin you are so informative, I love your videos. Those snakes OMG they are gorgeous.
Teaching moments is the best thing I learn alot here kevin is great I know I make mistakes but no one ever showed me I just learned things myself
Kevin loves his animals and it shows. You are a great teacher to people who want to learn like me. Thank you for what you do!
hearing you critique and them ask questions is super interesting and I would have liked to see more but I understand why you did.
You are a amazing wealth of knowledge and inspiration
Love this channel. Learn so much between you and brain barchzyk x
So neat to see how in tune with his animals he is. You can tell Kevin truly cares about and respects every animal.
That first Retic is absolutely gorgeous. Wow.
Your videos of handling large pied retics are the only ones I've seen that don't turn into sort of a clusterf***. Would love to see little vignettes/a series of brief videos of your work socializing baby pied retics over time. Maybe just include them within longer videos?
Wow! ABSOLUTELY stunning retic ABSOLUTELY beautifull. Its an ABSOLUTE privilege to own a NERD animal. Kevin is a blessing to the reptile world.
My pied tiger het albino has such a great temperament, but he is also very young. I'll just continue to work with him, and expect that he will continue to be an amazing animal! Thank you for the great content!
I’ve owned several horses and LOVE them!!! I was watching him handle the snake and was thinking that it was just like reading and owning a horse and then he said it and I was like 😃😃
I think it's all about knowing that animal and knowing yourself and your confidence!
Happy Samhain NERD crew! 👻🦷🎃🧠🕸🦴🖤💚🧡💜

Kevin is the master
I have had the pleasure of holding moo cow and she is absolutely gorgeous.
@MYSTERIOUS ONE when I held it kevin was offered 100,000 and turned it down. At that time it was the only 1 in existence. Now its like a 5,000 snake
Please put the redhead in more videos. Please
Very interesting, informative and just plain cool as always;)

3rd to comment lol this is gonna be another great one.
Wow this was a good one. My retic is still small but i soend hours a week handling her getting her used to human interaction. And will continue to in order to keep her docile. Great video!!
It's the best way to be with a retic you never want to be on the receiving end of a retic

Kevin is a master of snakes
Moo looks like she’s reading the cards on the other enclosure. Lol
Omg Kevin is so good with snakes. He understands them so well. He is literally the god of snakes.
I had a Burmese python act same way but not near as fast I miss all my reptiles I learned so much with hands on experience and the care sheets they give on net

When I was like five my brother use to lock me in the snake Cage's lol I did the cleaning just to hang out in his room with them.
Got a question.... New to owning retic's... got a 2 week old baby retic atm, Just had its first meal...
the question is:
My retic is a 25% dwarf retic......
