- A dispute in northern Kosovo in autumn 2021, which occurred as result of a directive by local authorities to use temporary number plates for vehicles coming from Serbia, has highlighted the important stabilising role that the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) continues to play in Kosovo and across the Western Balkans region.
We went to Kosovo to talk with KFOR personnel who helped to implement an arrangement on de-escalation reached between Belgrade and Pristina with support from the EU. This video looks at those developments and the role of KFOR to ensure lasting security.
KFOR’s mandate under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 is to provide a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all communities living in Kosovo.
Footage includes various shots of sites in Kosovo such as the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) and the northern town of Mitrovica/Mitrovice, to look at how the NATO-led mission in Kosovo has helped de-escalate recent tensions.
During filming all covid precautions were observed, including social distancing and wearing of masks.

KFOR's role in Kosovo is not just merely military, I remember as a kid NATO soldiers maybe in 2002-3 sharing toys to children, helping people with delivering all sorts of aid to already completly destroyed Kosovo with over 200,000 houses destroyed which was basically all the homes of a 2 million population that Kosovo had at the time. To others they may seem just soldiers but to us Albanians and other communities in Kosovo NATO was much more than a military, was a whole helping organization starting from security to food to construction to education.

I was born in 2010 but growing up i always loved NATO and KFOR and i always thank nato for the year 1999 bucause i would have never be born in Kosovo but Serbia and also i will always love and support NATO and KFOR 🇽🇰🇦🇱❤️🇺🇳🇺🇸

I really hope that we Finns will join NATO as well. We would get security from NATO. I do not trust Russia they are very unpredictable. We have really good bilateral relations with Russia right now, but that may change quickly.

@@turkofalbanianorigine1629 win is not really the right word.Soviet Union attacked Finland in the winter war.The Finnish troop were outnumbered the Soviets at that time.Therefore the finns can hold off.

"Thousands were killed on both sides before NATO intervened." I'm just wondering whether there is any WWII documentary that says: "Thousands were killed on both sides (i.e., British and German) before the US intervened." The tendency to downplay the perpetrator and appease Serbia at cost of Kosovo is worrying me, especially since it is still continuing after the Trump policies towards Kosovo. These are small things, but they matter, especially because they show how European NATO allies perceive their mission in Kosovo while also trying to appease Russia.
This comment aged well... Considering what Russia's doing in Ukraine, the world hopefully understands now that appeasing autocratic leaders didn't work in the past, nor will it work in the future. We in the West really need to have a tougher stance towards Serbia and all the other close allies of Russia.
