Get a shirt that will prevent cuts from the saw. Wear your chaps too, along with your helmet, mask, and safety glasses. Do not forget to protect your feet. Plan all of your cuts. When you are felling a tree, cut you first cut for the notch and do the felling cut waist high. If something does not go right, you have a better chance to escape than if you are cutting low.

hold your saw properly, stay out of the line of kick back

I really would have thought a forestry helmet would be made to at least offer some protection against kickback. To know there's a little is good. To know a severe kickback could slice right through that thing leaves me to think they could (and should) be better made. Just in case. What's the point in a safety helmet that's not safe

Thicker guage mesh or polycarbonate visors would be tougher than thin guage you see on most visors. 20mm thickness polycarbonate face shield would offer good protection. most visors are often only 1 or 2mm.

Main problem with polycarbonate shields is that they fog up as you breathe on them, and they require frequent changing as they get scratched up very easily under working conditions.

Great demo! I have to ask tho: did you really eat that watermelon after it got all that bar oil on it?

Could of done more acutely with you just coming of the throttle as u went into the helmet as am sure the chain saw wouldn’t be coming at u full throttle for that long

If you have the right kind of saw the chain will not be moving when it picks back, the chain break stops the chain and the helmet is best to shield the stationary chain from hitting you in the head.

What happens if you use an active chainsaw on a fencing mask?

Next up, will thin latex gloves protect you from a knife cut? Stay tuned...

Is there a shield that would protect you from an angle grinder? I am going to stay away from chainsaws and leave to someone who knows what they are doing but I do have a number of reasons to need to use an angle grinder. My friend who was a welder for 30 years had one kick into his face (scarred but he's fine) and so I wouldn't want to attempt to use one without this kind of facial protection (if it exists?)

Sometimes the wheels like to explode so a face shield from 3m with Z87+ will be just fine. Some welding hood are also Z87+ so you can use it as a face shield for grinding

No the debris shield will not protect against chainsaw kickback, it was Not designed to do so. It is a debris shield.. Too even suggest it or the hard hat would protect you from a kick back is ludicrous.

Hi Mike. It's funny but I thought the exact same thing when I heard him say "Lets see if ......." but then I remembered just how stupid people really are. People who actually had the question, "I wonder if the mesh will protect me if the saw kicks back". I can see these SAME STUPID PEOPLE trying to sue this site for not telling them the mesh will not protect them. And everyone knows just how easy it is to find a lawyer to take the case.
Some examples of just how stupid people are: 1) I bought a new motorcycle helmet with a full face shield. There were several peel off labels on the face shield, which would OBVIOUSLY obstruct one's vision. One of the labels warned, "REMOVE THE LABLES BEFORE USE".
      2) Look at the warning labels on bottles of soda. "DO NOT POINT TOWARD FACE WHEN OPENING". You just know the soda company was sued because idiots didn't have enough common sense to already know that.
