  • Prime minister Rishi Sunak is set to unveil new laws this week to stop people who arrive in the UK on small boats from claiming asylum - declaring "Make no mistake, if you come here illegally you will not be able to stay".
At the moment, people are allowed to stay in the UK to have their asylum case heard. But under the new law that would be stopped, and anyone who's been removed would be banned from returning.

The solution worked extremely well in Australia. Stopped the criminal people smugglers making money off people’s desperation and saved deaths from drownings including young children. People shouldn’t be able to ‘queue jump’ ahead of others that use the correct and lawful path to UK immigration.

We are still a member of the UN & the UN Court of Human Rights trumps any domestic political stance on this matter. The policy will never come to fruition because it’s ILLEGAL,just like the “Rwanda policy”.

Two things on that, firstly domestic law trumps international law & our parliament can pass laws that break international law, additionally, the supreme court has no power to strike down Acts of Parliament that break international law. Yes, it will be difficult to return them but that's not really the point of the bill. Banning them from claiming asylum if they arrive illegally will make their lives very difficult which should deter others from arriving.
