a couple of years late here, but i came here while on the quest for how to make scumm games or scummvm games and i have to say, the video here is in the true spirit of scumm games theme too. good stuff
I've found AGS to be really good for non-coders (like myself). The scripting language is not hard to learn, and it helpfully auto-completes commands for you. And if you're stuck on how the syntax is supposed to work, there's context-sensitive help -- just press F1 while you're scripting, and it'll pop up a help menu for the code you're currently writing.
I love the fact that you talk too fast and the saliva builds up cause I do the same and it normalizes it for me and makes me feel better about it :) Also very informative video, i'll definitely be using your guides to help with my first ever game, thank you :)
I really love how programs like this don't explain at all what things like the template names mean. And there is no "Default" template in the version I downloaded from the site, which makes the supposed instructions on the website even more infuriating.
is there a way to use the points like health points? in my game certain things will hurt you if you are not careful. like a car can run you over, don't worry though your character is a Gel cat, she'll pop back to normal, minus 20 HP. sort of like the Neverhood but with a RPG manner.
If you want to make walking animations ... Use free software like DragonBones, Krita that now has an animation layer . Great low cost software like Spriter Pro , and Pyxel Edit ! All easy to use ! www.flashcadabra.com/art-tools.html

@@spacequesthistorian since I started game development a year ago, I started with your AGS videos, moved to visionaire, tried unity, then visual novel maker, then rpg maker. And now I am back to AGS, again because of your videos. Thanks again for all the content!
Hello, Great videos series, but I have one issue on the beginning. I've tried to import background and set default character, but i saw compilation error with information: "GlobalScript.asc(222): Error (line 222): '.ProcessClick' is not a public member of 'Room'. Are you sure you spelt it correctly (remember, capital letters are important)?" I didn't change any things on scripts, so I don't know what is the reason?
Yes. In the Room settings, there's a switch for "Show player character." If set to false, the main character sprite won't be shown on that screen. Alternatively, you could just make a main character sprite that's a single transparent pixel.
No worries - wish I could have helped! The BASS 2-click interface is by far the easiest to work with for first-time developers (although the engine itself is geared more specifically towards the Sierra icon bar interface).
if i was going to create backgrounds for the games I create using this program i would paint a scene in Oil paints and then take a picture of it then edit it on Krita.
Scanned/digitized backgrounds are a tried-and-true formula for creating gorgeous-looking background art. Digital oil paintings would probably look similarly good. Good advice!
I need help, I can't even make the playable character walks. I already did what you just did on the video but when i wang to make a walkable area in the game it says I'm using the eraser and I need to change it in the prosperity pane. idk where is that hm

Yes, I am! I did an FMV game with my friend TorpedoBear for AdventureJam this year, and I'm working on my first full length commercial game with my mate Kevin Wallace.
