Thanks for watching everyone! As we wait for COVID restrictions to end, these videos are our best way to learn about Indonesia and all the other countries we react to! The more we learn the better prepared we'll be! And until then, we'll just make ourselves hungry 😭 The places were are currently able to travel to (Iceland), we made a vlog about here: ua-cam.com/video/F6BBZqDa3GQ/v-deo.html We always strive to go off the beaten path and find new adventures in our travel videos!
Indonesia have 400 ethnic groups who live in an archipelago of 5,000 km long, similar to the distance from Portugal to Iran. the variety of food will be amazing
with that amount of margarine, sugar, condensed milk, cheese, and sprinkles, it is definitely a heart burning meal. so you should only eat that once in a while, like once a month.
@@HenSt-gz7qj then go with the "special sweet martabak" using special butter called "butter wijsman" instead of regular margarine, and crushed toblerone instead of sprinkles. that way you can go all out on your "cheating day" with sweet martabak 😂😂👍👍
It's lil bit weird watching u guys react to the video related to my country cuz usually I watched your KPop reaction 😂 but not complaining tho, I LOVE IT to the moon and back haha! Please always be like this, both of you really spread positive vibe, thank you 🤗
I think as a baker , cake with buttercream have more fatty than martabak manis , because in the cake there is a lot of sugar, eggs, butter, sometime we add more caramel, milk, or condense milk and in butter cream there is a lot of sugar, and butter too, not to mention if the cake is added with more filling....
We got a lot of influence from Dutch colonialism, such as chocolate cheese combination food, especially chocolate sprinkles, in Indonesia we call it meses and in dutch they call it hageslagh
I am from Indonesia. Birds are not my choice of eating when I think of street food tho but I remember eating those when I was little and they were good and savoury. There are tons, tons of street foods in Indonesia. What you just saw just a glimpse of what you'll find here.
kerupuk aka the cracker is savoory, but it have little bet sweetnes on it, its depends on what cracker you try tho. we have so many version of kerupuk, depends on the ingredients. they make some with tapioka flour, other use potato flour, some use rice flour, and the other use mix of some flour then the additional ingredients,,, the main is salt and garlick, then little bit of pepper, some add shrimp, chilli, garlic, tofu/beans, fish, spring onion, etc. every place have their own kind of kerupuk
In Indonesia, nothing is impossible about food. There are many kinds of food which are "weird" for other countries, but when they try the food, they will immediately fall in love with the taste😂
Wow....I just got here, such a refreshing content. I usually saw your kpop reaction video and this is just came up on my home youtube tab, got curious over jakarta street food? Well I tell you what, that martabak, both of them....you should try. Nasi goreng and sate ayam is a must try, you can order nasi goreng with no spicy sauce (sambal) in it, so don't worry about the spiciness 😁 Sabang street is in the center of jakarta, so it's easy to get there. Me myself is in south jakarta, but years ago I work near Sabang street and often ate there with my co-workers. Just come to jakarta first, I'll wait for the vlogs 😁
>> the crackers / "kerupuk" you see there is an onion based cracker. A majority of the crackers Indonesian eat alongside our meals are onion based. That particular one, with the colorful edges are crispy but thin, it melts a little bit in your mouth, so it has this fluffy feel to it. There are other variations, I dunno if you've seen it in other videos, there are big round version we use for race eating events during independence day all over Indonesia. (it's not specialized for the event, we eat them on a daily basis as well). we have 'kerupuk' and 'keripik', kerupuk by definition is batter based crackers/crisps, most common aside from onion based kerupuk would be rice crackers, prawn crackers, fish crackers, etc. keripik on the other hand could be made from frying thinly sliced dried veggies (example: spinach crisps -> I guess in a way, it's a bit like Japanese tenpura), fruits (example: banana crisps -> we have more than 200 types of bananas, only some are delicious when made into crisps), or roots (example: cassava crisps) >> the eggs for 'martabak telur' or egg martabak, aren't chicken eggs, but duck eggs. If you look closely they're bluish in color. You can find all the food seen in this video in many places in Jakarta, they're easy to find. But of course, since they're not exactly a chain franchise, each will have it's own uniqueness, some might be really delicious, some not really. Ask locals for suggestions :D (there is a super popular martabak place in Pecenongan, but it's expensive , I'd say there are other places that offer tastier martabak than them) -> personal opinion.
In the pancake thing called martabak, the addition of cheese in there balances the sweetness of choco sprinkles and condensed milk. The margarine makes the pancake very moist. It tastes really good.
The reason why these foods are so different because they came from many different regions of Indonesia. Indonesia also known for it's diversity in literally everything (cultures, costumes, music instruments, languages, skin tone, foods, taste preferences, etc), so it's only natural for the food type to be diverse too.
Original sweet martabak is choco peanut filling or toping but yeah now everyting can be toping, like banana, oreo, cheese, coconut etc,how it taste like a pancake
Various spices make it possible to have various types of foods. We have different types of peppers and chilis for spiciness, different types of sugars (palm sugar, sweet soy sauce, brown sugar, or just normal white sugar) to add the sweetness to the food. To make something sour, we have more options too, not only lemon/lime. To make something fragrant, we have pandan, etc. Thus, no wonder Indonesia was under dutch colonialism for more than 3 centuries. All because of our spices and abundant natural resources.
You said in other video that you will visit indonesia about 2mont ahead? You must try martabak manis or that cheese chocolate pancake. People vs food said, its taste like grandma hugs. While Hari jisun, indoneaian food vloger from korea said, its like first love! So you must must must try!

My husband loves Indonesian and all asian food. He hate mash potato and fries. LOL Every time we go back to Indonesia we need at least 2 weeks just to eat the street food.
Chocolate and cheese is incredibly common. Literally the most basic combination here. If you have trouble picturing it the best I can try to interpret is that a lot of deserts have added salt in it to give it a contrast in flavor. Like salted caramel or cookies that have flakey salt on top. With Martabak manis, that’s what the cheese does. It’s a really sweet slightly chocolatey desert with an added salt. The cheese that’s most commonly used here is Kraft Cheddar cheese which (to me at least and I’m sure if you really think about it) doesn’t have much taste besides salt. So yeah, just think of it like that and I’m sure it wouldn’t taste as weird as you thought it would be.
For martabak manis or moon cake, I always order with no sugar, less condense milk and less margarine on it..for me its a 'healthier' version of martabak manis 😁.
I believe, iirc, there's Martabak place on US, It's in Philadelphia. the place is called Martabak OK. so you guys can still taste the most sinful dessert even if you're not in Indonesia
If u curious about the taste of cheddar plus sprinkles u can try that using this easy method home, just make toast than fill it with cheddar and choco sprikles. Trust me guys, that really work:)
Guys, there are many interesting things about Indonesia...such as Muslims burning churches or the prohibition of Christian worship by Muslims..also sealing churches in various places...
Dude, if you wondering how sweet martabak taste like, try it by yourself by making a toast bread, adding shredded cheddar cheese+chocolate sprinkle+vanilla condense milk. That is similar. Yet, remember use cheddar not another cheese. Good luck.
