  • New place to ride and there is a problem with the SV 650...Rust! I don't think this should be a problem yet. I've had it since May and it has just over 2200 miles on it. Will the dealer or Suzuki help out? I'll find out in the next few days.

    When I was still working it was a 22 mile commute to work and anywhere from 80 to 160miles home!

    Have been riding since 1978 summer and winter, rain or snow. Commuting, weekend visits to family, Christmas, New Years Eve, holidays in France, Italy, Schweiz and Austria. Strange to hear a newbie complaining about riding in the rain in a T-shirt and jeans - afterwards saying it's not a problem. Don't do it. Use proper rain gear. It's cheap! If you got more than a two cent brain you will find that the SV650 is an excellent bike.
    Edit: 68 MPG is what I get. Experience counts.

      I know and have since bought some rain gear. I'm sure you've heard it before but I was just going out to make a quick stop. Since than I never go out with out gear on and have also bought armored riding pants.

    I live in a tropical country so we get a lot of humidity and rain, I have noticed that the triple tree get a little rust on them as well as some parts of the frame itself.
    Ive found that spraying a little silicone lube on the problem spots stops the rust problem.

      That's what I plan on doing, but I figured I would try the dealer first.

    My average on the same bike is 67 mpg. And I don’t have rust on the forks and I ride mine in the rain but thanks for sharing and I’ll keep an eye eye on mine. Yours sounds really nice 👌. I subscribed 😃

      Thank you. The mpgs go up when I actually take it out and ride it, the best I've seen has been 60 mpg. The pipe is a Yoshimura Alpha carbon slip on, didn't want anything too loud, just wanted a better tone and to be able to hear it when I'm cruising.

    I have 2020, same windscreen. I see you ride at 5k rpm, that’s your fuel consumption. There’s an extra gear. I’m 205, Ohio. Same rust, and torque curve is 4500 rpm, I average 65-68 non highway, 58 highway (65-80) ((6k rpm = 58 mpg )) safe ride, but also ride however comfortable just my thought.

    So are you unhappy with 57mpg (us)? That equates to about 68mpg (uk) which is about what I got with varied use.

    Very impressive skid marx @6:26 I must say. It looked liked Ashdown Forest in southern England a bit to a casual observer. Hence New England!! I thought you were going to heavy rust like I've seen lately on a vlog of a Royal Enfield. It was a demo bike the man was testing and several bolts had serious rust on them at a similarly low milage.

    • @doobasorus420
      @doobasorus420  Рік тому +1

      Yes you see good marks every so often. The scenery is beautiful but the weather isn't always agreeable. The rust isn't heavy but still seems like it shouldn't of happened so soon.

    Have you been riding on salted roads in the winter? The salt dust gets everywhere. I never ride until a good rain washes away the salt.

    • @doobasorus420
      @doobasorus420  Рік тому +1

      No, picked it up in May of last year. The roads were clean of salt. I have since sprayed it with WD 40 on it has not gotten any worse. The dealer wouldn't do anything to help me out with it even though it was only a few months old.

  • @brittanylovestheoutdoors4043

    Little bit of lithium grease on the nuts and bolts an trouble spots that try to rust will prevent it that's what the dealers do with bikes they keep outside

    • @doobasorus420
      @doobasorus420  Рік тому

      Thank you. I'm hopefully going to be going through it this winter and greasing a few parts to prevent this in the future.

    Hey is the windshield worth to buy? How much would you rate it for wind protection 0-10?

    • @doobasorus420
      @doobasorus420  Рік тому +2

      I would give it a 6 out of 10. I'm 5'7 and it moved the air to my neck up, you can kinda tuck behind it but you still fell a lot on your helmet. There is another windshield, I don't remember what brand but it's a little taller and has a more upright lip on the top of it. The people who have it seem to feel it's a little better for moving air. If it's worth the buy..I got it on sale and thats what I would say. Wait till you can find it on sale.

    I hate those tiny digital displays, they really take from the look of the bike, for Gods sake bring back Analogue dials........
    Those digital displays are like something you'd see on a shitty electric bicycle !

    • @mhoeij
      @mhoeij Рік тому +1

      @@doobasorus420 In Florida the state recommends motorcyclists to use high beams during daytime. It does help. High-viz clothing helps even more. There's no rust on my SV (bought it in 2020) and I ride regularly in the rain. I have an electric fan in my garage, if I come home wet, then I simply turn on the fan so that it's not sitting wet all night. That's about all I do to keep it nice, and it still looks brand new.

    Per rust, surface rust like I would guess (can't see it) clean and polish is necessary. Long time biker, collected car guy and detailer. Rust is normal per exposure to the elements. Gotta do the maintenance regularly. Glass cleaner, Windex or Pledge wipes work well. A little cream polish with microfiber if needed. I take the wipes to the fork often.
