Golden Harvest overview and review

  • This is a look at the Golden Harvest lightsaber sound board. The one in this video is installed by LGT and is the same that you will find through many of their retailers (Darkwolf, Crimson Dawn, Mystic Knights, etc) though they do not sell it direct at the time of this video. This same board though is found in some Saberforge sabers and in several sabers from independent makers. In this video, I look at the features, performance, customizability, and menu navigation. I also discuss how it stacks up to similar boards: most notably the Proffie board and CFX (Crystal Focus).

    I just ordered my very first lightsaber the other day with this board, and your video has been the most helpful and it's also the most helpful in showing how to work the different settings and menus. Thank you very much I feel much more prepared to get my saber now. And extremely happy that I went with this board and neopixel blade.

    Since one of my previous comments, I have found one solution to one of the problems I mentioned. Many font packages come in a font .zip file which contains CFX and proffie versions (and sometimes others as well). When you unzip the package you get individual folders for each of these. Frederic's FileRename tool only works for .zip files. So if you are trying to convert a CFX font where you only have a folder with the font files (rather than a CFX .zip file), then you have to rename the files in the font folder individually (e.g., blaster1 -> blast1, etc.), which is a bit of a pain. An easier way to do it is to take your CFX font folder and apply a zip app to it. So now you have your CFX font in the form of a .zip file. You can now import that .zip file into Frederic's FileRename tool and do all the file renaming at one go, instead of having to rename the files manually.

    Excellent vid! Thank you. I'm new to the saber game and looking to add to my collection. I currently have a Ultrasabers Dark Graflex with obsidian v4 and a Zia Sabers neopixel which just continues to fail or lose functions mysteriously. I'm liking the Saberforge lineup and am stuck obetween the First Harvest or Golden Harvest options. (Welcome recommendations from more experienced saber guru's) That said, I really enjoyed the demonstration. Keep 'em coming

      I would go with the Golden Harvest, the other is just a slimmed down version and I don’t think the cost justifies the loss of features.

    Great video, I always love a review on the Golden Harvest V3 as it has a lot of potential to be better in the very near future (Configurator program currently beta testing)
    In terms of the smooth swing, the settings for that can be adjusted for each font to suit, send me a message anytime if you want to work together on changing the settings to to suit Flow 👍

      check your config file to make sure your volume is not set at 0. if it isn’t you probably have a broken or disconnected speaker.

    So I have one question: I noticed that when you changed to the Rey soundfont and ignited the blade the color didn't automatically change. Am I mistaken or does the color not change with the soundfont?

    It also tells you "Nothing's Impossible". Sage bit of Jedi wisdom right there. Didn't the Jedi Council get wiped out by Act 3?

    Loving the content as always, just a quick question. With the wider availability of neopixel boards and things like the LED converter, would you say you are now more supportive of neopixel in general? Or do you still prefer Baselit sabers? (I ask this a firm baselit fan)

      @DarthCephalus  2 роки тому +4

      I am in favor of having a neopixel saber but not of only having neopixel sabers. the adapter made a world of difference, and neopixel is great for showing off a saber or for costume applications. but for my primary saber or for any working saber, I still prefer base lit stunt setups.

      Xenopixel has its own pros of course but to sum it up, Xenopixel is basically a budget version of GH

    Do you know of any companies that sell Golden Harvest replica sabers with a two button setup? All the companies I've seen, e.g., Darkwolf, only have one button setups. (I don't like one button setups in general, regardless of soundboard.)

      not any of the LGT comparable companies. saberforge dies as do a lot of independent smiths.

    What would you recommend to be best for flowart purposes? As far as boards go.

    • @DarthCephalus
      @DarthCephalus  2 роки тому +1

      a stunt board/install or really anything that runs whatever effects or animation you want, but on mute. There is no sound board I know of that is anything other than annoying when it comes to flow arts as far as I am concerned. the exception is the ridiculous fonts. stuff like that can be fun depending on the application, but that is the font. the board you use to run it doesn’t really matter.

  • @bobtimster62
    @bobtimster62 2 роки тому

    What you say is partially true, I think. The board does have a lot of nice features, until you try to add CFX fonts. What Frederic says in the manual is not correct. In the manual, it just says you can drag and drop without having to rename font files. That's not really true. I had a problem with that. Here's what Frederic told me: "adding sound fonts is indeed drag and drop supposed that the files follow the CFX or GHv3 naming scheme. However, it sometimes happens that there are naming errors in sound fonts. To avoid that this has an impact, it is recommended to use the file renaming tool as it automatically corrects any naming error." I had to do that. Unfortunately, the tool he's talking about only works for converting .zip files. If you buy a font which has a .zip file, which nowadays contains both a CFX version and a proffie version, when you unzip the file, you get two folders, neither of which is a .zip file, one for CFX and one for proffie. Another real problem is when you want to add preon and postoffs, which I like to do. When you do that, the blade sputters upon retraction. And it does that not just on the added fonts, but on ALL the fonts, even the preloaded ones. If you want to keep this from happening, then according to Frederic, this is what you have to do: "To disable the preon and postoff blade effects, set the parameter preon_effect_intensity=0 and postoff_effect_intensity=0 in the background.txt of the blade styles for which you want to change it. For example, if you want to change it for Classic I, go to EffectFonts/slo9 and open the blade1 folder. If you want to change it for all blade styles, repeat this for all blade folders." If you go to the EffectFonts/slo9 for the different blade styles, you find that there are enormous number of these folders. To change all these will be a colossal pain, which is why I haven't bothered to try it yet. By contrast, adding preons and postoffs in CFX is a snap. So I don't agree that this board is more user friendly than CFX. If you are just happy with limiting yourself with what's preprogrammed on the board, you should be fine. Just be aware of all these things. Oh, and by the way, I've bought 3 Golden Harvest sabers from Darkwolf, the Asoka sabers and a Dark Saber, and all are one button setups. That may be generic to LGT sabers, I don't know. Hope this info will be helpful to some people.

      True, I generally take for granted that some renaming will need to occur between boards. The only time I have ever been able to just drag and drop is when the files are formatted for the board specifically, and when importing legacy plecter files into a diatium board. The rest of the time, something is generally slightly off. Usually pretty easy to spot with a side by side glance.

      @@DarthCephalus Unfortunately, if you don't use Frederic's .zip file conversion tool, i.e., if the font you want to convert is already in the form of a .zip file, then you have to manually rename all the individual files in each font, which is a royal pain if you want to add more than a few fonts. Also, as I mentioned in my previous comment, if you want to solve the preon/postoff problem, it looks like you have to do a LOT of work. If anyone here comes up with an easier way to do these things, believe me, I'm all ears. (By the way, like your channel. Learned a lot, particularly when I was a newbie.)

    I just ordered my first neopixel and I have never been more confused in my life. It’s stuck on mute and it seems to be doing whatever it wants regardless of what buttons I press. Really tempted to send it back. If anyone were able to offer help it would be greatly appreciated.

      If it is a GH board, I would recommend reformat the card with the manufacturers default files first. If that does not do it, you should totally send it back.
