I installed bilstein 5100 shocks on my 2024 gmc 2500hd at4. Not a bad install at all, great improvement! Shout out to Nick Scovel, Scovel Motorsports.com
So far 1500 miles on them and the Toyo tires and it rides like a dream. I had 60k on my last set of bilsteins in my tundra so I know they’ll hold up pretty well.
I have a 2011 Silverado LT extended cab 4x4 that I bought new. At about 100k I installed the Bilstein 4600 at all four corners and afterwards wished that I had done it when it was new. We moved to the Ozarks and have a lot of curvy roads. Before the Bilsteins I had to slow way down for the curves where, after the swap, I tested some of them and could take them comfortably at 10 over. I don't do it normally but know that I'm good if one sneaks up on me. I recommend doing the swap as early as possible. Don't suffer the OEM like I did. They're not worth it.
Great video and very helpful. How do you think they will hold up towing? I pull a small 24ft rv. About 7k lbs total. Have you towers with the new shocks ?
I have towed a 14k lb camper, 8k lb camper and 7500lb boat and these shocks are the ticket. They work fantastic, best upgrade you can do for the money on these trucks. If I buy another one I’ll put these on at zero miles.
Need so.e clarification. I just called Bilstein about the front shocks and they told me that you must have a 1.5 inch lift/leveling kit in order to use on a 2024 gmc sierra 2500. They are even advertised as such on their website. Obviosly they worked on your 2024. Any thoughts or do you think tech rep at bilstein was just reading off the notes posted on website. It states " for 1.5 lift" unlike the rears that state " for trucks with 0-1.5 lift" . Thoughts?
Gm heavy duty trucks come coated in cosmoline. Fluid film dissolves cosmoline, and will cause issues. So I bought that and use cosmoline spray on the frame to not void any warranty’s or cause issues.
Are they stiffer than factory? Torn between the Bilstein 5100’s and Fox 2.0’s. I’ve owned the Fox 2.0’s before on a 2017 F250 and they were smooth when new but got rough after about 10K miles. I’ve heard conflicting reviews as to which ones provide smoother rides. Some say 5100’s others say Fox 2.0’s. I may just try these and if I don’t like them replace with Fox 2.0 which cost twice as much.
They are equal in stiffness. They are progressive resistance. So the large bumps you still feel but there’s zero after bounce. They calm right down. For the money less than $400 these were perfect for me… if you want something real premium yeah a fox 2.5 or knight or something fancy would give a way more plush ride.
No they are standard length that allow for a 1.5” level. They also make ones for lifted rigs. Nick Scovel at cover Motorsport can help you out and walk you through the options. He was very helpful to me.
Ty for sharing, Keep us posted how they holding up.

Awesome video, as a fellow 24 2500 AT4 owner I will follow the updates you do, I plan on doing the shock swap in the fall.

GM used to ship all Z71 trucks with 5100’s until their contract with expired with Bilstein

Did this change your ride height from the stock ride height at all?
Cool..

They work perfect. It’s for trucks with 0-1.5” lift. Stock is zero and in range of what they are designed for.
Why not spray the frame with fluid film?

You ever thought of going with elka?
@@nabatron21 never heard of them.
@@Poconojoeg Canadian company there on a lot of HD trucks. Lots of shops using them in the states
@@nabatron21 I’ll have to look into them, I’m open to trying other products on other vehicles I have.
Are these adjustable shocks if you want to raise the front of your truck to level it if you want to?
