Melisa, I always love the beginnings of your classes. I am not a FF person with yoga anymore so I would ignore the instructor in an on-site class. You fill my mind with information that is so valuable. Unfortunately, I struggle with cognitive learning yet you always make sense. I like knowing that I learn something each day when I come to your yoga on youtube. Thank you most sincerely for your giving spirit.
I listened to the explanation of constriction and compression. I get things turned around but I got a sense of what you were teaching us. I do not forward fold well so I get I understand that it is compression due to bone on bone. I will continue to keep listening until I truly understand. Your information is so helpful when practicing. I rarely shy away from your classes even if I am unable to comprehend; your kind and gentle approach to teaching feel safe. Thank you for the generosity you share; for those that financially do not have a lot of funds I still feel welcome. My modest donation is the only way I feel I am doing my bit. I really value what you do and it keeps me coming back. Grateful:) by the way I like the start to finish of your class I want to hear all you have to share. It is so helpful.
Thank you Melissa for the wonderful class. I loved your explanation about compression and contraction, and how our bodies are different and how we should respect our limits. I couldn't agree more with you remark around focusing on shapes instead of what our bodies are capable of doing without being injured. Thank you for raising awareness and for making Yoga accessible to everyone.
Thank you for this class, I learned alot about my own hips, and how I could be kinder in my thoughts to my hips. I found the information on compression and contracture to be very helpful in understanding my hips!
I had forgotten all about compression and contracture which I learned at my 200 hr yoga certification! Thank you! You are an amazing instructor and I learn so much from you!
Hi Melissa and all you "Hippies" :-) I learned that no amount of stretching can override my body's unique structure. Learning about compression (bone on bone) helps me understand why my body reacts the way it does in certain shapes. Also, I LOVE using the bolster to rest my head on in shoelace pose. I will incorporate this technique in other poses. It's very nurturing! My huge takeaway is to pay more attention to feeling instead of shape. Great class Melissa...my hips thank you!
Thank you. Due to your explaining compression I now know why forward folds are just about impossible. Now I can relax and not worry about it. Thank you.
I recently had my right hip replaced and have resumed yoga, with the approval of my Dr. This class is challenging for me, as I'm not able to do what I did before yet. I will do more of your hip classes. Thank you for doing these classes
Having worked my way through lubricating my joints via the arthritis classes in our membership community, this class was wonderful to further access and getting to know my hips. I felt a great release through the back of my right hip. Thank you for all the tremendous work you put in to help us to feel, move and be better. Namasté 🌺🌻🌺
Hi, Mellisa, I love the color of your top, it looks beautiful on you. This is November 3, 2021. so a few years after this was created. I have been following you for a few years and am so grateful for your instructions, your love of poetry. Blessings blessings and namaste'
Melissa, thank you for all the way you do Yin Yan...the explanations, your calm\Zen instruction, the background music is wonderful...I love doing Yin Yoga with you.
I'm glad we are holding the poses longer now. For my body the magic release seems to come more in the 3-4 minute range. Even though I don't sit and drive a lot, my hips are still tight and this is a great opener.
love, love, love it. I haven't done yoga for awhile and needed to get back into it.. It was perfect. Just what I needed. Thank you for providing. namaste
I always thought it was tightness in my lower back that prevented my progress in seated forward bends but what you say makes so much sense to me. I also have really good external rotation but not internal rotation. Thanks for an amazing practice, my mind and body loved it! Much love, namaste 🙏 💖 💖 💖 💖
Learning about compression (bone on bone) was really an eye opener for me as well. I always thought that I just wasn't flexible enough. Great video. I've done it twice so far, even though my issue is not being able to sit back on my knees, I modified it with a blanket and blocks under my butt to elevate it slightly so I could attempt and enjoy the pose. Thanks so much!
Hi Dr. Melissa, I would like to thank you for your lessons and all the information you bring with them, it's always a pleasure for me to experience the relief of the yoga sessions with the knowledge and the information related to the practice. I've been doing some of your lessons, since I practice Waterpolo and I experience some pain from time to time because of the movement we have to do with the eggbeater kick. I had an injure related to the psoas, so the practices related to the opening of the hip have been very helpful for me. Do you have any more advice related to the stretching and strengthening of the psoas area? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would recommend Liz Koch´s book Core Awareness: amzn.to/2lExt47 I also have a video in my membership community relating to these principles if you should wish to have somebody guide you through it in video format rather than reading a book :) Namaste, Melissa
Namasté. I loved this class as well like the shoulder Restorative class I did last week. My hips are very tight, therefore maybe it is not only a lack of flexibilty, maybe it is a bonoe to bone compression and I cannot go deeper. I like all the variations your are offering. The poem last week "Entering the Kingdom" was interesting as well at is was a challenge for me. I am from Germany and to understand an English poem is challenging, but I love that. Can you tell me the name of the poem and author of today´s poem again?
Hi Silke Steg, Thank you so much for practicing with me. I am glad the variations are helpful for you. Thanks for being open to the challenge of the english poems. This week´s poem was: The Landscape Wants to be Understood Slowly by J. T. BARBARESE Namaste, Melissa
