hey my dad died of cancer when i was 8 and this was his favourite song ever and we used to put headphones on and sing together miss you dad love you lots xx
Imagine...if this is one of the very few songs you learnt to sing enthusiastically way-back-when, by heart, any time, anywhere...before you went totally deaf. That is me (1973). Yet I have never forgotten the tune or Sally beating it out. Never forgotten the words (how memorable are they!?) and even now, 43 years into a world of silence, I still get my freak on and bounce up and down wherever I am. One of the best memorable songs that never fails to get the jive a-jumpin'. Love it heaps! I can see by lipreading Sally and freezing the play that she is saying 'don' rather than 'gone' or 'dove'. But what is the true meaning of 'don'? e.g. a Mafia don? What!!? Not possible...
So do songs (before you went deaf) Linger in your head like a scratch you can't itch? I couldn't imagine not actually being able to listen to music anymore. Might be the nail in the coffin for me, aside from losing my sight.
At school, a huge group of girls who didn't even know eachother were singing this and I was just staring blankly before replying "oh she's gone to the bathroom"
I remember this song as a 3 year old in the early 70's. I had many brothers and sisters and my mum was always out working for that reason. we would fight a lot. When this song came on the radio I cry non stop crying for our mum!!!!! fond memories
I think actually this song is very traumatic and sad , imagine a child suddenly without his mom or dad ? , Probably the Ministry for children and families wrote this song to traumatize people whos children were taken away !! 👎
Had this playing on loud volume in a Special Needs School that I work at. It was during a Christmas concert performance and the little ones had to do a story theme while the older ones had to do a talent theme, so one of the little classes did 'The Owl Babies' story. In the story, the mama owl has to fly away to get food, so the line, "Where's your mama gone?", and the whole bird chirp cheep thing fit perfectly, haha.
I think it's meant to be about birds. This is pretty much how it goes for penguins and many other species. One day the parents decide they finished their job and leave the baby to fend for itself.
Hahaha finally understanding what they really sing... since I'm not a native speaker i always heard: where's your mama cunt? and always though they're rude :P
my dear auntie who was a second mum to me died of cancer 4 years ago after long struggling and left her son alone after his father abandoned him, then my poor cousin passed away alone in his house in a very young age cause no one ever cared about him after his mum.. i came to listen to the song in a happy mood but then the lyrics hit me cause they represent my auntie and cousin's struggle so i ended up crying awfully cause i miss them every single day and im broken over how life was cruel to them but i know that god takes care of them very well rn🖤
and a month ago now i lost my dearest mom to a long awful struggle with illness as well and im the one who’s singing this to myself today after i lost my first mother as well WHERES MY MOMMA GONE
I don't think this song is sad,but it's kinda scary (if you're singing this to a little child). It makes remember a brazilian lullaby that has a line: "Sleep little baby,Cuca (a monster) will catch you. Your mommy went to the farm and your daddy went to work"
This record with these songs I bought myself! I was 10 years old! It was back in the USSR 87-88 years. I learned the lyrics to izust, not even knowing what they sing, so I liked this band!
i haven't heard this song since lastnight but before that it was 40 years and i was 8 my sisters and i would run around in the woods in our yard in vernon ct singing this song and jingle jangle from the archies thanks for the memories
I wanted to sing this to my now two years old sister one year ago, but now I got my first voice break or how its called so my voice is deeper and i cant sing that now
The people leaving comments below are all mad as a box of frogs. This is, without doubt, one of the worst songs ever inflicted upon the listening public. My idea of torture is being interrogated in a locked room while being forced to listen to this song - half way through the first go-around of it they'd have me confessing to killing King Tut and Jesus just to stop the pain.
The songs we hear as children stay with us sometimes. I was no more than 8 years old when I heard this new on the radio and I want to say that "Let it Be" was new at the exact same time because I remember it playing at the same time and people were still wonder whether the Beatles were actually DONE done.
Officer comes to farm and asks child he finds: where's your dad Hit by tractor Where's your mom Hit by tractor Where's your brother Hit by tractor Where's your sister Hit by tractor What do you do all day Driving tractor
I told my friend that my cat chirps a lot, so I affectionately called her Chirpy Chirpinson. My friend started trying to sing something. This must have been the song 😅
I’m 15 years old and only listening to this because my grandmother and grandfather told me that they used to sing it to my mom when she was a baby , it made my mom cry when she was little I was shocked that they would do something like that !
Cant believe this was my childhood song My mum used to sing it to me when I was little now I'm 12 and its still one of my favourite songs and she still sings it to me
Trr to go with the other day and you to do to do it in a few days ago and ready to be in touch Witherspoon to do it in the future of this message is not able to get a chance to the needful at earliest response Frome and ready for the first time in

My dad and I used to dance to this song together as a little girl in the early 70’s. I love the song❤️
This is the first song I can remember hearing. I was still in my crib and I remember it upsetting me because my momma was gone. lol
This song used to make me cry when I was little. I never forgot this song.
Heavy abandonment song.

2023 and Im here ❤
haha ma teacher showed me this yesterday super catchy
Amazing how they can take a lifechanging, traumatic, terrible and very sad life eveny and make a catchy pop song about it
I think it's meant to be about birds. This is pretty much how it goes for penguins and many other species. One day the parents decide they finished their job and leave the baby to fend for itself.
This was the first record I ever bought, aged 2 in 1971, from a record shop in Norwich, England. Remember buying it too. :)
God damn this song is sad and it sucks
Macchez why are you watching then...? And why even bother to comment? .-.
Teacher played it in school.
Macchez
still doesn't explain why you got logged into your account to comment that it sucks.. .-.
I'm logged into my account everytime.
Hahaha finally understanding what they really sing... since I'm not a native speaker i always heard: where's your mama cunt? and always though they're rude :P

This song is as catchy as the theme of Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 (AKA the forbidden season).
Now i'm 58 still hear this song its very nostalgic
This record with these songs I bought myself!
I was 10 years old!
It was back in the USSR 87-88 years.

I remember the song but it was sung by a guy.
Mona Biehl really?
Mona Biehl it was probably sung by the guy who wrote it Lally Stott

I told my friend that my cat chirps a lot, so I affectionately called her Chirpy Chirpinson. My friend started trying to sing something. This must have been the song 😅
A cheerful song about a baby abandoned by his momma. Toxic positivity ala 70s, or is it just random lyrics due to too much of some happy pills? 😂
I’m 15 years old and only listening to this because my grandmother and grandfather told me that they used to sing it to my mom when she was a baby , it made my mom cry when she was little I was shocked that they would do something like that !
Did anyone else come from them lasses dancing and singing this on Britain’s got talent or just me?
I came here because of the x factor, anyone else? This video where Cheryls face looked like smoking hot and now this song reminds me Cheryl help
I came here because of Frank Gallagher! (Only the UK version!)
1971 was an awesome year for songs such as this. Mac and Katie Kissoon were the only ones to chart this song in America.
This reminds me playing club penguin, I always listened to this while playing Club penguin
I love good old 70s. thank you for uploading
